November 30, 2023

I hope you are having a good day, mine has started off a little odd, but it will get much better as the day progresses. First off, it is raining here in Hewitt this morning. As always, we need the rain so that makes us happy. We are not sure how much rain we may receive, and there is a slight risk of storms this afternoon, so we will stay alert to the weather.

I did get the decoration on the mail box yesterday, and I had intended to go out about dark and activate the timer so the lights would come on about the same time as the other decorations. I got busy and forgot until it was too late.

My favorite wife did leave home yesterday, not only to get away from me for a while, she also needed to get some groceries. Upon return she and I emptied the ole freezer and moved the items to the new freezer. I alerted the neighbor who gave of this ole freezer many years ago, that it was empty an available. I offered to help him move it when I returned from getting Alex from school. Upon my return, I found that the ole freezer had been moved.

My first wife has been able to get the new silver tree installed and decorated, it does look nice. Did I say that she had previously installed a green Christmas tree in the kitchen. It is a tall skinny tree which does not take up much room. My present wife still needs to install the main tree in the front room. It is a normal sized green tree, I think that will be the last tree installed this year, maybe.

Let me talk about me. I have sun damage to the skin on my arms. The doctor prescribed a medicine to rub on my arms, which would basically do away with most of the sun damage. I have done this same procedure many years ago, and had no problems. Years ago when I applied the prescription to my arms, it was for a 30-day period. This time it was a more potent prescription and I was to apply it for 12 days.

Me not being the smart person, assumed when the cream was rubbed into the skin, that it was in the skin and not on the skin. As the days passed, I had a tendency to rub my face with my hands and occasionally arms. My face, head, and ears, itch quiet often. Evidently, I have unknowingly applied the prescription to my face and now a lot of my face is red, and the prescription is also working on my face. I called the doctor and she said it will go away in a few days.

I did get a new printer and the test pages look good, now if I can get it to print my work and scan the items I have. It prints ok, but I have not been able to get it to scan and send it to the computer. Ole people do not understand the way these devices work.

I guess the rain will keep us inside for the day. We hope you have a dry and warm day while being safe. Thanks for reviewing these postings.

November 29, 2023

Did you have a good day yesterday? Did you work too much and are you tired today? Did everything seem to work out the way you wanted it too? Do you still have things to do today?

Enough of the questions, let me get started. Tres did take me for a walk yesterday. It still amazes me as to how excited he gets when we start getting ready to walk. Now believe me, you don’t want a big dog being excited in a small house like we have. 100 pounds of excited dog running through the house, his tail wagging alone can damage many items. When I attempt to put the lead on him, he sometimes howls. During our walk he pulls me at a faster pace than if I were walking alone, I get better exercise?

My favorite wife went to town yesterday (and she left me at home) to get a silver Christmas tree. She had a silver tree and it would no longer light up, so it was tossed out. At the store they said they only had the one silver tree which was on display, and they would sell it for half price. She decided to go to other stores and see if they had any good deals on a silver tree.

After shopping at several stores, she returned to the first store and purchased the displayed tree at half price. Back at home she was putting the silver tree together when she found that it was missing an electrical connection. She complained and I suggested that she call the store and ask the person who put the tree into the box if she knew where the connection was.

I went to get Dave from work and deliver him to his homestead. Arriving back at our homestead my irritated wife was not in a good mood due to the silver tree.

We received a call that the deep freeze was on the truck and should be here shortly. Shortly turned out to be 30 minutes. They unloaded the freezer and placed it in the garage as requested.

My favorite wife had called the store where she got the tree and they said they had found that they had two more silver trees that were still in their box. My unhappy wife asked if she could return the tree and exchange it for a new tree, and they said yes. I suggested that I could take my somewhat happier wife to the store to exchange the tree, when I got back from getting Alex from school.

I picked Alex up from school and I asked if he learned anything at school, he first said no, then he said he learned that his friend and his friend’s girlfriend might break up. I noted that happens a lot.

Back at home, I loaded the silver tree into the Ford’s ole Chevy along with my present wife, actually, I did not load her, she got in by herself. As we drove to the store, my favorite wife commented that she would have to pay full price for the new silver tree. We arrived at the store and I was allowed to carry the silver tree into the store where we were met by a young lady. She brought a new silver tree to us, and we did not need to pay more. Yep, my happy wife got the new tree at half price.

Leaving the store, I was allowed to take my enthusiastic wife for a roast beef sandwich before heading back home. The new tree went together ok, my decorating wife placed it and as she attempted to connect it to the electricity, the multipoint surge protector failed. The items that were connected went out. I was called for my assistance. After comments, questions, answers, we decided to replace the multipoint surge protector, with a different device. The tree came on and everything works.

That was only one of the challenges from yesterday, I will end commenting now, and we hope your day will be very productive and safe.

More to do, darn it!

November 28, 2023

It is a reasonably warm morning compared to yesterday. It is 45 degrees this morning and it was in the low 30s yesterday. As I understand it, Waco’s temp hit a low of 31 yesterday morning. We are supposed to have a sunny afternoon today, that will be nice.

I did not do much yesterday, I did get the ole freezer moved, I am not sure what time the delivery person will be here. I did get Santa and his wife installed and connected to the electric, yes, I have a couple photos, one close up and one further away.

I did not get to the last timer, but I will attempt to get to it today.

Different topic: I have been putting some medicine on my arms which the skin doctor prescribed, it is for the sun damage that occurred over the years. I use rubber gloves to rub the cream onto my arms and I was told to wear long sleeved shirts which I assume was to hide the spots that show up from the medicine. Evidently, I have gotten some of the cream on my face around my nose. My face and nose seem to itch quiet often, and I rub them often. I now have some red spots on my face. I guess I will call the doctor today an see if this is a problem.

Bible study went well last night, and a topic that came up during our discussions was how to help others. It was noted that we can often be a help by just listening to what someone has to say, and not interjecting our thoughts. Listen, ask a question to clarify, and keep listening. When the other person has spoken, offer advice if you are asked. Listening says you are interested in what they have to say.

Different topic: my printer seems to have decided to quit. I have had it for several years and I tried to scan an item yesterday and it would not, heck now it doesn’t want to even print. I will need to get a new one, even though I have little funding.

Well, I guess that is all for now, I need to see what my favorite wife has for me to do today, maybe it is a day of rest. We hope you have a good day and as always please be safe.

I don’t like medicine.

November 27, 2023

It is Monday and it is cold. How cold is it, it is 33 degrees, that is very close to freezing. I might need to check my faucet covers to see if they will work this year, before I have a frozen faucet.

I did almost nothing yesterday while my favorite wife worked all day. She has removed all the fall decorations inside the homestead and is replacing them with Christmas decorations. I did work on the timers for the outside lights, all but one has been re-set to come on and off at the same time. I know there is one more timer and it is in the garage behind my tool chest. Also, there are other items in front of the tool chest that must be moved, so as you can see, too much work for a senior person.

Molly the cat is still hiding most of the time, she ate food yesterday and we let her go outside, but she did not come back in last night. I assume she has found a hiding place in the garage now, I guess she will get hungry and come out for lunch.

I need to move the ole freezer to the other side of the garage in an effort to get ready for the new freezer, which is supposed to arrive some time tomorrow. We plan to get the new freezer installed and let it run for a day, then move the frozen items from the ole to the new. Our neighbor who gave us this ole freezer many years ago, will take the ole freezer back when it is empty.

I did replace the lights in Santa and his wife yesterday, I plan to install the pair today. It is cold outside, but it isn’t windy like yesterday, so we should be able to work outside and not freeze.

When the Tres and I went out this morning we noticed the Full Moon was in the sky, and I have a photo.

What? The moon was there, it was hiding behind the cloud.

Well, I guess I will get out of the Ford’s ole office, since there is no heat in here and go to the front room. We hope everyone has a safe and fun day.

November 26, 2023

I am starting this posting on Saturday night. It has started a light rain and during a short break I went out to see the Christmas lights. Now they are not all in place, but we have a good start. Photos to follow         with short explanations.

The nativity scene is kind of overpowered by the light of the Angel. Yes, I connected wires to all the decorations that were outside today, and it took all afternoon. I am told there may be more decorations coming, if so, I will be doing more electrical work.

This photo is looking up the walkway to the front door. There are the two white trees and some deer that are lit up. I guess this is a good start for the Christmas decorations. My favorite wife worked inside most of the day, but she helped me outside toward the end of the day.

We may not have been the first this year in getting the decorations up, but we are not the last either.

It is now Sunday: I have not looked at the free rain gage, so I do not know how much rain we received, but it was a light rain. The wind has picked up, so I do not want to be outside doing any work today.

The Christmas decoration lights came on last night but one of the timers needs to be adjusted. I do not enjoy working on those timers, it is as if my fingers are too big to push the right buttons. We still need to get Santa and his favorite wife displayed in the front yard; I am sure my favorite wife has other items to be displayed.

Well, that is if for now, if you stay inside, you might be warm today. Have a good day, and please be safe.

November 25, 2023

Today is Saturday and yesterday was work day. How many times was I allowed to get down on my knees in the acorns? How many times did I say ouch, and how many times did I pray for rain; well, I did not pray for rain, but I did say ouch a bunch of times.

Now my days started off with me trying to make a few of the lights on the house appear to be close to being level. I was able to help a little but it isn’t perfect. Then I brought the 4 pieces of the Ford’s ole scrap wood manger to the front yard, and after a couple tries, I was able to get it together. For that one person who said, “the Don was just screwing around yesterday”, she was partially correct. I have a photo which follows.

In this photo one can see the 4-inch screw that I had found and which are used to hold this project together. One should see that the manger is made of scrap wood, if they look at the photo. If we ever get the manger scene complete, I may attempt to get a photo.

I was also allowed to secure the red metal bench to the ground in an effort to keep it from overturning in windy situations. We plan to position Santa and his wife near this bench today. We have positioned two white trees and some white deer (they all have lights on them) and a couple of the plastic pieces in the front of the house, with other items that will be installed today. My present spouse has placed Christmas decorations on the front porch, which I have nothing to do with. I have a photo of some items before being installed.

Another thing that should happen today, we plan to run the electrical wires out to the devices and put them on timers. I did hook up the lights on the house and around the flower beds to the timer yesterday, and I installed some lights on a bush near the garage door. Photo of the bush lights to follow.

I think my favorite wife wants to go to town to get something today, and then we get to start work. Wish us good luck, and prey that our ole bodies continue to work through the decorating of the house.

That’s it for now, may you have a very nice day with little work, and as always be safe while being nice to ole senior persons.

November 24, 2023

Hello from us to you. We had a nice Thanksgiving Day, the food was great, our family was here, conversations were enjoyable. We did not do any work on the Christmas decorations, but I will be allowed to work on them today. If we get any of the Christmas lights working, we will get a photo and post it.

We truly hope you had a good Thanksgiving Day; I know some of you did not celebrate yesterday but will be celebrating today.

Yesterday; both Dave and Patrick helped their mom with getting the food ready to serve and getting it to the table. Later in the day, after family had left, my favorite wife and I looked at the pots, pans and dishes that needed to be washed, then we said nope, not now! We both got a beverage and went outside and sat on the Ford’s ole swing, enjoying doing nothing for a while.

Molly the cat was outside but she was staying away from most people, it is as if she is afraid that someone will hurt her. If I walked toward her, she would walk away, if she saw me walking in a different direction, as if I did not see her, she would come to me to get petted.

Molly was hiding last night when we went to bed, so she stayed out in the garage all night. This morning I opened the door from the Ford’s ole office to the garage, and molly came in. I petted her as she stayed in the office area. After a minute or two I just picked her up and put her on the washing machine, that is where her food is kept, so the dog can’t get to it. Molly ate a bunch of food; she must have been very hungry. We are not sure where she is now, but she is probably in the room where she usually sleeps.

After my favorite wife and I sat outside resting and thinking about two things (washing pots, pans, dishes, also Christmas decorations) we were able to drag our ole bodies back into the Ford’s house, where Donna took care of the left overs, I carried stuff out to the garbage can. I was allowed to wash the pots and pans; the dishes and silverware were put into the dish washer. I had one big pot that has soaked overnight and I will wash it this morning.

Later I will go outside and see what I can do to the Christmas decorations.

That’s it for now, we hope your day is not filled with crazy shopping, and we hope everyone stays safe.

November 23, 2023

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, yes even you!

We made it to Thanksgiving, and I hope each of us take time to be thankful. Even ole people like me have things to be thankful for. The fact that I can get out of bed in the morning is a good reason for me to be thankful. One might be surprised if you knew some of the things, I am thankful for, and yes, I say thanks to God and Jesus for many things, even friends and family members!

I was thankful the other day when we found my favorite wife’s ole Midway sweat shirt. What did I find yesterday, well hang around an I will tell you. Now yesterday we were trying to get some of the decorations ready to be put in place for the Christmas celebrations. I had brought some of the items to the garage for my first wife to work on, and I started on the scrap wood manger. The ole manger consists of 4 parts. There are two ends, one back and one top. It takes a while to clean all the dirt off the boards, then I have to decide which is the back and which is the top, the ends are easy to identify.

Now the scrap wood manger is held together with 4-inch-long screws, I think there are eight of them. I was working on cleaning up the wood for the manger when my present wife came out back and wanted all the Christmas items from the shed, brought to the garage where she was working. I stopped cleaning and began moving items to the garage. I also place several plastic people like Santa and his wife, the people and a few animals for the Manger at the fence.

My favorite wife had put together two white Christmas trees for the front yard. One we have had for a while and the other is new this year. I was able to move the trees to the front yard and properly locate them, secure them in place, while my workaholic wife was putting other things together. Later I was allowed to take empty cartons back to the shed and a couple items that my present spouse was not going to use this year.

I still had not finished with the scrap wood manger, I did not know where the large screws were, and yes, I had looked many places twice, but did not find them.

Tired and wondering where the screws were, I sat down on the Ford’s ole swing to rest. Often when I rest, I take a little time to say thanks for the day and to ask for guidance. Yesterday at the end of my prayer I ask for help finding the screws that I had placed somewhere, but had forgotten where. After a short rest period I saw an ole tackle box on my ole rocking chair, that we now use for stakes to hold things in place. The box was open and I thought I should shut it and place it inside the garage.

I walked over to the ole rocker, and looked down at it and I saw a small paper bag that was rolled up tight. I thought it was an empty paper bag and I was going to throw it away but when I picked it up, I knew it had the screws in it. Yep, I found the screws and today I may attempt to put the scrap wood manger together. The bible says, “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened,” the bible also says, “All thigs are possible if you believe”. I asked for help, I believed I would get it, and I found them.

My favorite wife not only worked on the Christmas decorations yesterday, she also worked on food for thanksgiving.

Today is Thanksgiving and my wife is working too hard to get the food prepared for today’s feast. There are all kinds of good smells coming from the kitchen.

We hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving, if you are traveling, please be extra safe.

November 22, 2023

It is Wednesday, and the wind has subsided. It is cold with a temp of 36 degrees and a predicted high of 60 today. I am not sure what I will be doing today, my wife is getting things ready for Thanksgiving and she also wants to get the Christmas decorations in place. I have the feeling that I may be involved in a few things today.

If it gets warm enough for this ole person to go outside, I might see if the so-called manger is still usable. It was made from scrap wood, and each year I take it apart and it lays on the ground near the shed all year. Then each year I must remember how to put it back together. There are a few long bolts and or screws that hole it together, but where are they?

If by some miracle I am able to get it together, then I will take it apart and carry each of the 4 pieces to the front yard where I would again put it together. Did I say, I also anchor it to the ground to keep it sitting still in high winds like we had yesterday.

If I am able to get the so-called manger installed, I would then need to bring a few items to put in the manger. My wife has said that some of the items are not in good condition and will not be used. I wonder, if we don’t used them can we get rid of them?

I have been gone for a while; my favorite wife allowed me to drive her to a couple stores for some last-minute items to enhance the Thanksgiving meal. It is now 50 degrees and I was able to get gas for the Ford’s ole van while we were out. There are so many people out shopping today, I would not want to be one of them, I stayed in the van and observed all those people.

Tres has not had a walk today or yesterday; I may let him walk me a little later today.

I really need to stop and get started on other projects, we hope you have a good day, be safe and careful if you are going to the stores.

November 21, 2023

How should I start this posting, which would allow me to get your attention? Ok, I have an idea. Allow me to start with, “it worked”. Now, for that one person who did not read yesterday’s posting, the words, “it worked,” has to do with a small bale of straw. The rest of you know what I am talking about when I say, “it worked.”

Bible study went well last night, there was several that did not attend, I assume the low attendance was due to Thanksgiving travels. I have noticed that the main topics of discussion when we are not in a group meeting is, sports. Baylor and the other college teams along with professional teams top the list. Also, a large number of attendees are Baylor grads or Baylor staff.

Let me discuss the weather for a moment; yesterday when my favorite wife and I were in the Ford’s ole Chevy going to town to make a major purchase, the outside temperature gage was indicating 80 degrees, and it felt like it. We had worked outside most of the day and the weather was very nice. Now, this morning, the weather is not very nice. It is 51 degrees outside, 59 in the ole garage, and 51 in the hot house, the door is open to the hot house allowing the air in. The wind is blowing like crazy, gusting to 35 mph, that makes it feel very cold.

During the nice weather yesterday, I was able to get the grand kids to come over and help us ole senior people with a couple projects. Note; I did get the grand kids and myself a beverage from the Star coffee place before the work started. Gabi worked in the yard removing acorns while Alex installed the Christmas lights on the front of the house and around the flower beds. The grand kids did a very good job, and their efforts are appreciated. The grandees also got a free homemade lunch for their efforts.

My present wife was installing some decorations in the front porch and I was attempting to supervise. Supervise means, I was allowed to carry things to the garage from the shed, and from the garage to the shed.

Even though you did not ask, I will go ahead and explain what the major purchase was and why. It was a deep freeze, and the reason was because the ole freezer is very small. My first wife said she needs more room. We were given this ole freezer many years ago, and we have offered it back to the previous owner assuming that they would not want it. Surprise, they want it. The previous owner lives across the street, so it will be an easy task to move it to their home.

I will need to make a few adjustments to the area next to the garage refrigerator, prior to the arrival of the new freezer next week. Did you know that many freezers can be used as refrigerators too. They also say some freezers are garage ready, which means they can handle the heat while keeping the food frozen.

My wife and I have discussed going to the George restaurant for a breakfast this morning, so I guess I should stop for now. We hope your day is exactly what you want it to be, please stay safe, and get at least one short nap.

Too windy to decorate!

November 20, 2023

Yesterday event: I went outside for a few minutes, and I was enjoying a cup of coffee, there was a light breeze, so I sat down on the Ford’s ole rocker. I was enjoying the quiet afternoon when I heard the sound of someone coming down the street, but there was no one there. Now I have commented in the past about the sound a leaf can make as it blows down the street, but today seemed different. As I stated earlier, there was a light breeze, there were many leaves in the street, but only one was bouncing down the street. A leaf blowing down the street can very much sound like a person walking.

I wonder, since there was a light breeze, several leaves in the street, but only one was moving, do you think it might have been a ghost making the single leaf move? Why did a single leaf catch my attention if it wasn’t intentional.

Different subject: we have a rose that is blooming in the back 40 and I have a photo. There are several blooms together making one big bloom.

It is not a real good photo, I guess I am too ole to take good photos.

Different topic: school is out this week, and I am hoping to get both the grand kids over today, if it doesn’t rain, and have them help with some Christmas lights and removing acorns from the front yard.

Speaking of Christmas lights, our neighbors at the corner have Christmas lights up on the shrubs, a normal tree is wrapped with colored lights, and lights on the wooden fence. We here at the Ford homestead are kind of behind as to the Christmas decorations but not too far behind. We usually do the outside decorations the week of Thanksgiving, and the weather on that day is usually cool, cold, or rainy. Wait a minute, this is Thanksgiving week, and the weather is questionable, wow, we might be on schedule.

Yesterday I was not forced to help! My favorite wife and I worked as a team removing the fall decorations from the front yard. there were fake pumpkins and fake fall-colored flowers. Most of these items were packed in totes and a few were tossed out.

One of the decorations involved a small bale of straw with a pumpkin and some fall-colored flowers. When the pumpkin and flowers were removed, I was bitten by a fire ant. The pumpkin which should have been empty, seemed to be filled with something. That’s when I notice that the fire ants had taken over part of the bale of straw. I did not remove the bale of straw, but I did get the fire ant killer and liberally sprinkled the bale of straw, and the surrounding area. This fire ant killer is supposed to work quickly, I will check later this morning to see if it worked.

Well, I guess that is it for now. We hope everyone has a safe and productive day, while you are making your plans for Thanksgiving.

Fire ants bad!

November 19, 2023

Did you have a good day yesterday, we did. I kind of look at yesterday as a lucky day for the ole Ford’s. My favorite wife and I were going to town, we had a couple things we wanted to look for, and a couple stores to visit.

As we were leaving the homestead we stopped and talked with a neighbor. He noted that there was a blue sweatshirt on top of My favorite wife’s van when she drove away early that morning. I said, yes, I had placed the sweatshirt on the van with part of it hanging down the side. My wife was unhappy that she has lost the sweatshirt, and the neighbor suggested we look along the road and might find it. I decided to drive the way she had driven earlier that morning, in hopes of finding the sweatshirt. We had driven about half a block, and I saw the shirt hanging on a mailbox. Someone had found it and placed it on the mailbox. Now you know why it is considered a lucky day

Heading into town, my favorite wife went to the Christmas store, where she shopped, and bought nothing, even though she had a coupon. Then we headed off to get a sandwich for lunch, and the sandwich was good. After filling our bellies, we then headed for one of the home stores. They also had Christmas decorations and there were a lot of people reviewing these decorations. I picked up a heat lamp and then we went to the appliance area where we reviewed the freezers that were available.

My favorite wife wants to get a new freezer, the ole freezer is too small. We have had this ole freezer for many years, it was given to us by a neighbor when they were getting a new freezer. We plan to offer if back to the neighbor when we get a new freezer.

We reviewed the freezers at the first store, and we learned that some freezers can be used as a refrigerator or a freezer, and some are garage ready. Garage ready means they can handle the variations in temperatures. The price was not too bad. We decided to leave so we put the heat lamp back and bought nothing.

As we were leaving the first store, we had noticed that they had real Christmas trees but no price on them. I asked one of the young men who worked there what the price might be for a real tree. He did not know, but he said the fake trees inside are a couple hundred dollars, so I assume the real trees will be more than that.

We visited the second home store and found basically the same information as to price and availability. Yes, I did get a heat lamp from this store, it was a couple dollars cheaper than the other store. Nope we have not decided on a new freezer yet, but that will probably happen soon.

Back at the homestead I did take a short nap. I did go out back and water the black berry beds, I did trim a few branches off the #2 berry bed. There was a large limb that had fallen from a tree in the back 40 and I had placed it on the ole trailer a few days ago. I cut the limb into smaller pieces. I trimmed a couple bushes in the front yard that usually get some Christmas lights on them. Then picked up some acorns and I again cleaned the crushed acorns and acorn caps from the street in front of our house.

Those projects being done, I decided to sit outside for a while and enjoy the afternoon / evening. My favorite wife also sat outside with me, and a little later a friend came over to enjoy the evening outside with us. As I was listening to the enlightening conversations, I noticed that the new moon was out and I got a photo.

There is a tree and a flagpole in the photo, just in case you did not know what you were looking at. Well, that is it for now, I need a break. We hope your day is enjoyable, that someone is nice to you, and that we all stay safe.

November 18, 2023

I wish I had something to write about, but I don’t. When you are old and you have nothing to do, there is nothing to write about. I guess I could tell you that I took the blower and blew the leaves and other debris off the drive way, but I don’t remember if I did or not.

I could say, I went to the pharmacy yesterday and picked up my prescription, it is a steroid that is to be put on my arms to fight the sun damage from the olden days, which I did, but that is not interesting, so I am not going to say that. If I told you about the pharmacy, I would also say I used the GPS to get me there.

Did I go out back and water the plants in the Ford’s ole hot house, I did, but that is not interesting either. Did I activate the sprinkler system and let it run this morning, I did, but I have not watered the black berry beds. There is a prediction of possibly some rain tomorrow, but the prediction is not very assuring, so I will likely water the berry beds today.

I did do my bible study homework yesterday, and I do find that interesting. I also read from the bible, not the same chapters that the bible study is in, and I always find that interesting. I usually read things in order, I don’t jump from one book to another, and I can’t wait to get back to Revelations. Some of the things that are going on in the world these days, as I see it, are covered in revelations.

I would note that I picked up acorns from the front yard yesterday before I went to get the kids from school, but that isn’t interesting either. When I arrived home after dropping the kids off, I made a drink, then Tres, my favorite wife and I went outside to relax from a nothing day. It is good to be able to kick back and take it easy after another do nothing day.

Note: my favorite wife did do some things during the day, getting ready for Thanksgiving.

We might attempt to go to town today, I think my present wife has a few places that she needs to go to, and I still need to get another heat lamp bulb. Well as you can see, I am finished with this posting, we hope you have a wonder filled day, and please be safe.

November 17, 2023

Well let’s see what happened yesterday. I did go to the skin doctor, I showed her a skin tag on my neck that was being irritated by my shirts, yes, I do wear shirts part of the time. She looked at it and took sterile scissors and just cut it off. She did say this will hurt a little.

She looked me over and sent a prescription to a pharmacy that I need to get. I had no idea where the pharmacy was, so on the way home, I drove by the location and I could see the pharmacy across the highway. Later that day I decided to go to the pharmacy before getting the Alex from school, and I could not find the building. Ole people don’t know how to find things, I guess if I had the address, I could find it using the GPS. Wow, I aint as smart as a robot GPS. I will get the address and go back to get the prescription today.

I did get the Alex home from school safely; I did have a snack for him. You know what a beef stick is, at least I assume you know, anyway, I had a deer meat stick, which is like a beef stick but made of deer meat. He liked it a lot. I will need to hide them when he comes over for Thanksgiving, or he might eat them all.

My favorite wife and I went out to supper as usual yesterday afternoon, and our good friend was to come by and get the acorns we have been collecting. These acorns were in two trash cans and we had told our friend he could get them even if we were not at home. Well, he came over while we were gone and as he backed into the driveway Tres was raising cane. Our friend decided to not get out of the vehicle, even though Tres was on the other side of the fence, and he would come back when we were home. When we got home our friend arrived and he was able to get the acorns.

Now supper was kind of odd. First of all, there was almost no one at the cracker store, it seemed as if there were more servers than customers, when we arrived. Our server was having a problem with another customer, then he came to us and we ordered drinks. Drinks arrived and the tea that my first wife ordered was not right. He took it back and made it right. We placed our order and it was taking a long time, so he stopped buy the table and said the chicken and dumplings would be ready in about 5 minutes. I explained that I did not order chicken and dumplings, I order Chicken.

The server went back into the kitchen and quickly brought our food. The next problem was when I was checking out, they could not make the ticket work in the computer. The girl tried a second check outstation and it would not work. She then called a manager, and she could not make it work. Then the manager asks if we had a problem with the meal. I said nothing major and I explained. She then asked what we had to eat, she learned that they had given me the ticket for another customer. It only took about 5 minutes to get the meal ticket paid. You would have thought with all that time wasted they would have cut the price of the meal, but they did not.

We did not sit outside last evening; it was dark when we finally got home from supper. I guess I should stop for now, have a good day, stay safe, share your kindness with others.

November 16, 2023

Howdy, from me to you. That is all I have to say today as I did very little yesterday and probably will not do much today. Ok, since no one asked, yes, the Salvation Army truck did come to the Ford Homestead and take all the boxes and bags away yesterday. Yes, there is some room in the Ford’s ole garage now. Yes, I did go to the shed where I was able to find the Christmas decoration lights that go onto the house and around the flower beds, (one tote and a couple small boxes) and I brought them to the Ford’s ole garage.

Yes, I was able to mow the front yard yesterday, even though I wanted to leave it for the yard man Alex, but it needed it, so I mowed it. During the mowing process I was amazed at how many acorns are still in the Ford’s front yard. Are there people who could be hired to remove the acorns? It is a continuing process until the last acorns fall.

Speaking of Fall, I have a photo showing the beautiful colors of the tree leaves turning here in Texas. Now our leaves are not as brightly colored as those from the northern states, but they are ours. Photo to follow.

Wow, spring has sprung, summer is gone, fall has fell, winter will be colder than, well.

Let us see what the Don might do today. it is Thursday and I usually go to the teller machine to get our weekly stipend; I do have an appointment with the skin doctor today, and I hopefully will get the grand kids home safely after school. Yes, the Tres will likely take me for a walk this morning, if I am able to get out of this ole chair. We will need to decide where we will go for supper this evening. Wow, that is just too much for an ole senior person to do, maybe I should get a cup of homemade coffee and take it easy for a while.

November 15, 2023

Howdy from us here at the Ford’s homestead, to you, and a couple other of the reading public. I do not have any definite plans for today, possibly the same things I did yesterday, just a day later. Now we are expecting the truck from the Salvation Army to come by this morning to pick up the items we have that are boxed and ready.

Wow, we might have some room in the garage for a couple days, but that will not last too long as we will be getting some of the Christmas decorations out of the shed and putting them in the garage. I have asked our grandson to help with putting the lights on the house and he has agreed. Now I will need to find them as they are somewhere in the shed with the other cartons of Christmas decorations. That will be no easy task!

Speaking of the lighting that goes on the house and around the flower beds, I know there are 4 sets of lights for that project, and that each set needs to be in the same place as last year. Having each set in the same order (place) as previous years will make an ole senior person happy. These lights need to be attached in certain places and the attaching nails or screws stay there year-round. A place for this, a place for that, even for his big ole hat.

My spouse has pointed out that the front yard needs to be mowed before the lighting project begins. I think I can have our yard man to mow before he starts installing the lights.

I did get outside yesterday for about an hour before heading out to get the kids from school and I recovered a few acorns from the flower beds. In that hour of heavy-duty work, I was able to get a 5 gallon bucket half full of acorns. We now have the trash can full and the ole red wagon is half full of acorns. They are ready to be picked up and taken to the deer lease.

An interesting thing occurred as I was retrieving the acorns yesterday. Now one should know that the acorns are still falling even as this ole person attempts to pick them up. In the photo we see the device that I use to pick up the acorns. As I was looking around for more acorns, one fell from the tree, hit the top of the house as many do, and fell into the acorn picker upper. Yes, it went into, and stayed inside the roller ball! That was a surprise, the acorns helping this ole senior person do his work.

Other than that, I do not have any other valuable information to share with you. We hope you have a pleasant day, filled with kindness and please be safe.

Another Nothing day!
