A nice cool morning to one and all, it is another cool morning with the possibility of rain. Tomorrow we are supposed to have a warm up so that ole people can go back outside and act like they are working in their yards.

Speaking of ole people: a neighbor was on his knees yesterday morning pulling weeds in the cold wind. Now I do not know if it was by choice, or if his spouse strongly suggested that he get to work, whatever the reason, it was cold and windy when he was on his knees.

Did I do anything yesterday: I did my daily bible reading and I worked on the bible study homework. I am not a good homework person, but I try. After my reading I was allowed to drive to the teller machine and get the $5.00 stipend, also since I was out and about, I got a cup of real coffee. Did I do any outside work yesterday, well I put the recycle bin out at the curb and brought it back in after the recycle truck had emptied it. It was too cool for me to want to be outside. Yesterday and again today. I did get the kids from school yesterday and if memory serves me, I think I had a nap.

I might be able to get Alex to do some yard work Saturday, the front yard needs to be fertilized and parts of the back 40 needs to be mowed, along with a flower bed that needs to be cleaned out.

Different topic: the first of the month is coming Friday, (that is tomorrow) the grand kids will be at the homestead early, and before going to school they allow me to take them to the star coffee place for a morning cup, and they often allow me to get them a breakfast burrito.

Wow, speaking of breakfast, my favorite wife and I plan to go to the George restaurant for breakfast this morning, instead of going out for supper this evening. They have a very good and big omelet, and their coffee isn’t bad.

Well, I guess I will close and wish everyone a good day, lots of happiness and as always be safe.

Winter’s here.

February 28, 2024

This is the 28th, it usually is the last day of February, but this year they have tacked an additional day on to the month. For that one person, and you know who you are, this year will have 366 days instead of the usual 365 days. The proceeding should be considered your lesson for today.

Now let us assess the situation of today. I have a couple things I could do today, these are not plans, just things I could do, like spreading fertilizer on the front yard. I could run the sprinkler system as the ground does appear to be dry. The temp is going to be much cooler today than yesterday, (50 degrees) and it is going to be windy. Wow, one day summer, the next day winter again.

We did get the limbs removed from the yard yesterday, I checked with the city to see if they had a phone number for the fellow who was supposed to do our trimming, they did not. I contacted a fellow I know who works for the city, and he provided info of tree people who could remove the limbs. It cost some money but we got the limbs removed.

The contractor who was supposed to do our tree trimming did not show up Monday or Tuesday to work, but he did come by Tuesday afternoon late, there was a female in the truck with him, he was definitely not there to work. I was not home and my favorite wife was sitting outside when he arrived. He commented to my present spouse that we had the tree limbs removed, and she said, “yes and we had to pay to get them removed”. She also told him he needed to talk with me, and that I would be home at 4:30. He said he would come back. As usual he did not come back.

Once the limbs were removed, I did a sprinkler system check, setting the sprinklers to run 2 minutes each section, I observed each sprinkler head. Most were preforming as expected, a couple need some adjustment.

Topic swap: next Monday has a couple things happening. One, Alex will have a birthday and he will be 14 years old. It seems to me he should be 5 or 6 years old. Two, it will be the start of spring break for the school kids. Wow, the kids get a break but us ole people never seem to get a break.

Well, I guess that is about it for now, we hope everyone has a good day, filled with kindness and as always, please be safe.

February 27, 2024

Wow was it warm yesterday, yep, it was not only warm but kind of hot. Did I run the air conditioner in the Fords ole Chevy when I was getting the grand kids from school, yep. Did I turn the air conditioner on in the Fords homestead yesterday, nope. Is it supposed to be hot again today, yep, is it going to cool down after today, yep.

Did the so-called tree trimming people come yesterday to finish the job, nope. Are the Fords becoming irritated, yep. My favorite wife and I stayed home all day yesterday waiting on them to arrive and finish the job, as we were told they would. The person who told me Sunday that he would be here Monday, failed to keep his word. Blame everything on the management, they should select the proper staff and see that the staff properly and safely do their jobs.

Better topic: I think I might have noted that I was allowed to stain the three crosses that are on the bench, which is on the front porch. Yesterday as I waited, it came to me that I might be able to put a sealer coating on the three crosses, and that would help my wife be happier. Photo of the Don’s work to follow.

My present spouse has a crown of thorns that she puts on the center cross.

Plans for today, see if they arrive to complete to work, I will likely contact the city to see if they have a phone number for the fellow, I have his name, I lost his card, and he said he lives in Hewitt. I do have the license plate number from his truck, which I took a photo of the day I agreed to have them do the work.

I need to fertilize the front yard and check the sprinkler system, but I can’t until they get the limbs removed. I will get the grand kids from school today, and speaking of the grandee, we did go to Alex’s concert last night. They had three groups that played music and it was all good. I think they are supposed to be in some contest with other school groups this Friday.

Well, I guess that is it for now, we hope you have a good day and please stay safe.

Follow through…

February 26, 2024

Happy Monday morning, at least I think it is Monday morning. The weather people are predicting a temperature of 91 degrees today, isn’t it still February? That seems a little warm to me but they say it has been that hot in January several times in the last century.

Let’s see if we have any plans for today: well, I should get Dave from work this afternoon, and get the kids from school, I plan to not go to the bible study this evening, instead go to listen to Alex and the other kids play some music, as they are having a concert. The rest of my plan has to do with the possibility of tree trimming.

The tree trimmers had indicated that they would arrive at our house about 10:00am Sunday, they did not so my favorite wife and I went to the Cracker store for lunch. We left Tres guarding the back 40. Arriving back at home the trimming people were not there. They showed up here yesterday a little after 1:00pm, they looked at the trees, they asked some questions, they tried to get the extension ladder to work, the fellow who is supposed to be their main climber, was here a short while, he was on the phone a lot of the time, he said it is Sunday and I will be back Monday. The older fellow (63 years old) stayed a couple hours, he borrowed my pole saw and climbed on the roof where he cut some limbs. Some he dragged across the roof and tossed off the back of the house, some fell in the front of the house. I move the limbs that fell in front of the house and the ones that were tossed off the back. Some one came and picked him up about 3:00pm.

Better subject: my favorite wife and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon and as you may have guessed, the main topic was tree trimming. We did discuss another topic and that was staining the crosses on the bench that is on the front porch. Did I say discussed, I stained the three crosses and have ben told that I will be allowed to apply some sealer to them today. I do have two photos, one is a pretty bloom on a flower in the hot house, the other is a stack of limbs on my wife’s cactus plants.

I just looked at the security cameras and it appears to be a little foggy outside. I also observed Molly the cat outside on the driveway and on the sidewalk in front of the house. I think she may have been watching a animal which I also saw in the front yard. I could not tell if it was a rabbit, but it did move like a rabbit. Molly has come out in public a couple times in the last few days. I think it is the noise of the saws that gets her out and about, but she doesn’t come to us to get petted, although she will let us pet her, if we go to her. Maybe she is going to get back to normal.

Well wish us luck that the tree trimmers would get here, trim the trees, pick up all the debris, put things back where they came from, and then leave, all the while being safe. Proper management of any business is important.

We hope you have a good day, try to be nice to us ole people, and as always be safe in all you do.

February 25, 2024

We would like to wish you all a happy new day, it is a new day isn’t it. Yesterday was one odd ball day for us. Usually on a Saturday we head out to Waco for a lunch sandwich, and we usually stop at the less than expensive store to see if they have anything we need. Then returning home I would get a nap and later in the afternoon I, along with my favorite wife, would go outside and sit in the quiet of the neighborhood, discussing world problems, or things that I want to discuss from the bible, as my favorite wife sometimes understands biblical events different than I do. Most of that did not happen yesterday!

The people we have hired to trim our trees were supposed to come over and get the project done yesterday. It was after 2:00pm when they arrived, I was out in the back 40 where I had started weed eating the ditch. Two people showed up and they did not have the young man that they had said was their tree climber. They brought an extension ladder that was probably 20 feet long before they started extending it. I said it looked like a long ladder we had when I was a volunteer fire fighter, the older fellow said he had been a volunteer fire fighter also. The ladder was hard for the two of them to handle so I helped a little.

They were able to lean the ladder on the tree limb, next to the area where they were going to cut. The ole fellow said he wanted to tie the ladder to the tree limb, but he did not have any rope. I was able to provide a rope and the ole fellow climbed the ladder and tied it to the limb. The other fellow, I assume he is the boss, left, so only the ole fellow was here to work.

The ole fellow’s plan was to start the chain saw, and with-it running, climb the ladder then cut the two limbs and climb back down. The chain saw would not start even though he pulled on it a lot. Then he added gas, his container was leaking a lot when he tried to pour it into the saw (there will be dead grass). He then checked the oil and added oil, the oil he was using was my oil, it was the oil I had drained from the big generator and poured back into the bottle which I had left sitting in the garage for later disposal.

After about 15 minutes of trying to start the saw, I suggested he might want to check the spark plug. He asks if I had a socket that would fit the plug, he used my socket and ratchet to remove the plug. He then poured gas on the plug and asked if I had a wire brush to clean the plug. I provided him with a wire brush. Plug reinstalled, he asked if I had a little bolt that was missing from the saw, I provided a small bolt and a screwdriver.

Finally, he was able to get the saw started, he did climb the ladder and cut the first limb without any problems, the second bumped his ladder when it fell. If he would have fallen it would have been close to a 30-foot fall. Down from the ladder safely, he then started to cut the two big limbs into smaller pieces. At that point I headed for the house. I then saw him pulling limbs to the front yard, coming through the small gate. I then moved the pickup and opened the two big gates for him.

He pulled limbs through the gate to the front yard, and I asked why he did not back the pickup out to the back yard instead of pulling the limbs to the front yard. He thought that was a good idea. Then a female person arrived, and they were getting ready to leave, they left the chain saw, gas and oil out near the ole shed and said they would be back this morning around 10:00. I wasn’t thinking that it would be Sunday. Will they come on a Sunday?

I present you with all that info to say, “proper and good management makes all companies small or large better”. Also, I want to show that I was available to help as needed.

Topic swap: My favorite wife and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon and while we were relaxing, I was able to get a photo of Molly the cat. Yep, she had come out of here cage and was resting under the van.

Well, that is all for today, have a good Sunday, be safe and help others.

February 24, 2024

Good morning all you early risers, and hello to the rest of you. The day is starting off with temps in the 40s and it should be another nice day with sunshine but no rain.

Speaking of rain: I had noted yesterday that I intended to test the lawn sprinkler system by running each section for one minute. Well, that did not happen, and I doubt that it will happen today. The ground is getting dry on top, I assume it is still damp deeper down in the ground, so we could use some rain or have the sprinklers do the work.

I did work on the generators yesterday, I was able to put the oil in the big unit, and both of them started and ran, I even hooked the table saw up to each of them to be sure they were creating electricity, they were. I was surprised with the large unit; I pulled on the rope getting ready to give it a hard pull, and the darn thing started. I think they both ran for at least a half an hour, the smaller one ran longer, I must have put too much gas in it. Now I am trying to assure myself that all the gas is out of both of them before I put them away. Any gas left in them could cause problems next time I want to start them. Hopefully I will get through with them and get them put away today.

Different subject: one of the reasons I did not get finished with the generators yesterday was I agreed with a tree trimmer to work on our trees. I want the trees in the front yard trimmed back some, especially the limbs over the house and the big tree in the back 40 has some dead in it and I want it trimmed back. They started cutting some limbs yesterday in the front yard and while they were cutting one limb that hung over the neighbor’s driveway, a limb in her tree broke and fell, so they cut it up and it is piled in our front yard. They should be back here this morning to get started on the project.

Donna and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon, as usual, and I have a couple photos.

The first is an easter Lilly that is mostly white, second are miniature Lilly’s, third puffs of clouds, and forth a cloud that is difficult to define.

I guess I should get outside and complete a couple things before they get here, we hope you have a good day, and please stay safe.

February 23, 2024

Good morning to you, good morning to me, good morning to us, good morning to all!

Wow, glad I got through that, now allow me to say, “we made it to 85 degrees yesterday, and it is still winter?” I did get outside and act like I was working for a while yesterday. I did get both generators out and cleaned them off, I drained the oil from the big generator. I do plan on putting oil in the big one today and gas in them both, and then running both of them today. Never any rest for old people.

I learned that I don’t need to get Alex from school today, they will be staying after school to practice for the upcoming evening of music at school. Alex plays a violin in the group. I will still need to get Gabi.

The music at school is on Monday night and that is the same night of our Bible study meeting, I will miss the bible study meeting.

My favorite wife and I did go to a couple stores yesterday looking for a few items, and we found a few items. That does not mean we found all the items we wanted, just a few.

I had forgot that it was Thursday until I had dropped the grandees off at home, so I tried to hurry home to get my still favorite wife and take her out for date night. Allow me to explain, the young lady who served us at the food place, referred to us as having a date night, so now Thursdays are officially date night. Wow, that kind of puts pressure on this ole senior person.

I want to run each section of my sprinklers for one minute each today, that will do two things. One, it will get the stinking water that has been standing in the pipe all winter out, and two, it will let me see any obvious problems. I think I will call the people who put it in, to come and check it out this year.

We did sit outside after returning from our date night, and the weather was fine. There was a full moon last night which we observed as we sat outside, I think it was about 6:30 when we headed into the homestead.

Well, I need to get started on today’s work load, we hope your day is restful, fun, profitable and we hope everyone stays safe.

February 22, 2024

Good morning, at least I think it is a good morning, my cell phone is still working, is yours. On the so-called news this morning I saw that there are cell phone outages for a lot of people. Very few people have the ole wired phones. Most cell phones will work on your Wi-Fi, while you are at home.

Mistake: the Don made a mistake yesterday when he stated that February 1st, the Don meant March 1st. Thanks to the friend who pointed that out to me.

What did the Don do yesterday: well, he did go to the bank and get his $5.00 weekly stipend, and since he was out and about, he went and got a too expensive cup of real coffee. When the Don went back home, he had decided to get some rest in the Ford’s ole recliner. After a few minutes of well-deserved rest, the Don went out back and watered the flowers in the hot house, it has been getting very hot lately due to the bright sun shining all day. The Don also watered the black berries and a couple rose bushes, and he provided water for the dog and the birds.

As the day progressed: the Don went and pick Dave up from work and returning home the Don decided to finish the income tax forms and send them to the government. There was a quick update but it did not affect my return, so I sent them to the government. We will be getting more than $72.00 back this year! Wow, we can use that money.

After completing the tax forms, I headed out to get the grandees from school, and I did get them home safe and sound.

My favorite wife and I sat outside yesterday afternoon for about 1.5 hours. The weather was very warm and the neighborhood was quiet except for when they fired off the rocket motors, then it was noise.

Plans for today: I need to get the generators out and run them for a while, the big one needs to have the oil changed so I need to see if I have oil in the shed or will I need to purchase oil. The small one is a two-cycle motor, so you mix the oil with the gas. This will be a lot of work and I hope my ole body will be able to handle the work load.

We also need to go to the store and get a couple things, now you can see, ole people never get a good long rest break. Where can I get good solar glasses before April eclipse?

That is all for now, have a good day, let others be nice to you, and try to stay safe.

Ole worker.

February 21, 2024

Another good warm morning here at the Ford homestead, we had a nice day yesterday and I did have Alex over yesterday to do some yard work. I was hoping to have both of the grandkids, but I only got one. If we would have had both I would have also gotten the ditch behind the house mowed down.

Alex and I did stop by the Star coffee place to get a cup before we headed to the Ford’s house and all that work.

Alex cleaned out three large flower beds, a couple using the string trimer, leaf blower and rake, and one by being on his hands and knees pulling the weeds by hand. Alex cleaned up all the debris that came out of the beds and then he went to the front yard and raked up acorns and acorn caps. Alex did a good job, and he was appropriately compensated with both food and funding.

We did get the Ford’s ole van worked on yesterday and as soon as it was out of the shop my favorite wife drove it into Waco to do some shopping. I did ask if there was a cash discount for the work and the answer was no.

Yesterday afternoon the weather was so nice that my favorite wife and I did sit outside for a while. A friend stopped by, and we learned that she will be having surgery on her knee next week. We will keep her in our prayers. Now as we sat there discussing the bible, I happen to see a cloud that we found interesting, so I took a photo. Later in the day when I was allowed to carry trash out to the trash cart, I saw other clouds and I got two more photos.

The first photo was a cloud in a straight line that kind of looked like a backbone. The second forms an X. The third had the X at the top and another at the bottom which is difficult to see.

What kind of plans does the Don have for today, not many. The yard is now in good shape, and I really don’t have anything in mind other than doing my bible study homework.

Speaking of bible study; Yesterday the Don was attempting to do his bible study homework and he wrote the answer to the question under the wrong question. Yep, I guess ole Don the Ford was not paying attention. He then drew a line with an arrow to the proper space and when I answer questions today, I will use the other wrong space with another arrow, hopefully he will locate the rest of the answers in the correct spaces.

Ole retired people, you know what I mean. Well, I guess that is it for now, we hope everyone has a good day filled with whatever they like to do and that we all stay safe.

February 20, 2024

Good warm morning to one and all, the weather warmed up yesterday and we even sat outside during the afternoon. My favorite wife cleaned and organized a portion of the garage yesterday while I was away at the eye doctor. In truth, she continued working in the garage until about 1:30 yesterday and I was in the house most of the time trying to get my eyes back to normal.

I was able to get outside later with sun glasses on as the dilation was going away. The new doctor is a lady and she seems to know what she is doing.

While we were sitting outside the neighbor boy and his mother came over, they brought a bag of treats for Tres. Tres was very happy and we had some time to talk with the neighbor. The weather was nice enough that my present wife and I sat outside on the ole swing for probably an hour. I did go get Dave from work a little after 3:00 yesterday.

I did go to the Bible study class last night, and as usual we had some good discussions. We have about 8 more meetings, then we take a summer break like the school kids do. The next bible study session will be about revelations, that will be interesting

We plan to have Alex the yard man and Gabi over today, to do some yard work. If they are ready when I get to their home, and I don’t have to wait on them, I will take them to the star coffee place for a cup before we start work. There is some raking in the front yard, weed eating in the back 40, and removing of a bunch of dead tops from plants in a large flower bed. My favorite wife will very likely make something good for the grandkids today for lunch and that means I might get to eat also.

Another thing we will be doing today is, take my first wife’s van to the mechanic for some work at 7:30 this morning. They will be putting a thermostat in the van.

Well, I guess I will quit for now, we hope you have a productive day and please stay safe.

February 19, 2024

Well today I go to the eye doctor, and I do not enjoy the dilation of my eyes. I have a new doctor, the ole one retired, and this one I have never seen. Hopefully he / she will be a good doctor. That probably means he / she will have some new assistants that I have never met.

This morning when Tres and I went to the front door, I always look around before opening the storm door to see if there are any animals or people in the area. If the area is clear, we head out to the front yard. This morning there was a person walking down the street with a dog, so we had to wait until they were out of sight before we exited the house. This fellow has been seen before and it is usually around 6:30am (that is dark thirty this time of the year).

Sunday was a do-nothing day for me, we stayed at home all day and the only time I ventured out for a while was to take the Tres for a walk. It did warm up to the 50s, so the walk wasn’t too bad. Every time I tried to watch something on TV there was nothing that I wanted to see. It was a boring day.

At one point I was sitting there with the TV on, and I thought I got to get up and move around a little, so Tres and I went outside and just looked at the yard and flower beds. I heard a plane flying over so I looked up and there was a small airplane, and also a jet, along with the moon. I thought I would like to get a photo, but by the time I was able to get the phone out and get Tres secured, the plane and jet were gone, so all I got was a photo of the moon in a bright blue sky.

This may be one of the shortest postings I have done, we hope you have a good day, and that everyone stays safe and is productive.

February 18, 2024

It is a cold morning here at the Ford homestead with a temperature of 28 degrees outside. Yes, it will be too cold for ole senior persons to venture forth from their homes today.

Yesterday I basically did nothing all day. Now I did drive my favorite wife to the pharmacy to check on a prescription, then she was willing to ride with me in the Fords ole Chevy into Waco, where we had a lite lunch, which cost too much.

After lunch we decided to go to the cheap store that has items up to 70% off regular price, and we shopped. By shopping I mean, we walked around looking to see if there is anything we needed or wanted. They have a gas string trimmer for $79.00, that seemed like a very good deal, but I did not need one. I did purchase a new carrying case for my cell phone, you know one you were on your belt. I think I might post a photo for your enjoyment.

Spending a whopping $4.00 for the carrier, we left there and drove to the mall on the other side of town, where my favorite wife left me in the vehicle while she went shopping. She shopped long enough that I was able to get a short nap. She bought something but I don’t know what was in the bag that she put in the back seat. We then headed for home hoping to rest and relax the remainder of the day.

Rest did not come as I was allowed to get in the shower with the Tres and give him a bath. He cried most of the time as I washed him. When it is warm, and we wash him outside he seems to enjoy those baths but not the indoor baths.

Dog washed, and yes, I then took a shower, I sat down and started watching an ole movie, “Big Country”. It is a cowboy show and I did watch more than half of it before I switched the channels and watched some Three stooges. I had a sandwich for supper and then headed for the bedroom. I did watch some TV while I lay there in bed.

Wow, that was an uninteresting day. Thanks to all who have asked to be kept on the mail list, and thanks to those who have not. I will start the new E-mail list the first of March. You don’t need to do anything to get off the list, let me know if you want to stay on the list.

We hope that everyone has a good day with good food and as always stay safe.

February 17, 2024

Good chilly morning to you all, I think winter is back for a couple days, and I might just stay inside today. I did get a lot of what I wanted to get done, completed yesterday, but there is more to be done.

I did clean out a couple flower beds and trimmed some dead parts of the plants away then, for some reason, I decided to rake over part of the area that I had raked a couple months ago. There were many acorns to be raked but there was as many acorn caps to be raked. I raked an area into a pile then I raked another area into another pile, there were at least 15 piles of acorns, caps and dead grass. I filled the ole red wagon and a small trash can with this debris. Photo to follow.

It may not look like a lot but that is a big red wagon. Ok, I heard what you said, and this time you are correct, the ole Red Wagon is really an ole Pink Wagon, as it is possibly 30 years old and faded, (that is two years older than me). I did take the wagon and trash can to the ditch behind the house and left the debris there. That amount of raking has me very tired.

I did take the wife’s van to get gas in it yesterday, and while I was away, I procured a cup of real coffee, then I picked up the clothes from the cleaners and returned home.

My favorite wife and I did sit outside for a while yesterday afternoon, earlier than usual, and as we sat there the wind began to blow harder and it was cooling down, so we knew the cold front was coming through.

New topic: I am tired of the commercials for these candidates for political offices. We see the same commercials multiple times, every time I watch the TV. When will it end? This morning, I was attempting to watch one of the national news channels this morning, and they were showing the same so-called news items that I had seen yesterday.

I had asked to get our yard man Alex over here on Monday, as they are out of school Monday, and have him do a bunch of yard work. Now that I have thought about it, I guess we will postpone that until possibly Tuesday. I go to the eye doctor Monday morning, and they always dilate my eyes. When I get my eyes dilated, I have a tendency to wear the sunglasses inside the house until my eyes get back to normal and avoid all extra bright lights.

Too cold for ole people today, I might get a cup of homemade coffee and sit on the Ford’s ole recliner and do nothing again. We hope your day is warm and safe.

February 16, 2024

Wow, I got through another day! For us ole people, getting through another day is a real blessing. Not one of you asked if I had gotten on my knees out in the back 40 and near the driveway to pray and also to do some work.

At one point I was on my knees in the back 40, and this time I was working. I guess I should have been praying, as I reached for some weeds to remove, I failed to pay attention to the rose bush, and I was wounded. There were 10 wounds to my left arm and the blood ran freely for a while. I will attempt to add a photo of the mean rose bush.

What we see there is the base of the rose bush, wh
ich is not flexible and has hard sharp stickers. When you bump into this thing you have a tendency to quickly jerk away and that seem to add to the injury. No, I will not need hospitalization, but some gentle reassuring words from my favorite spouse would be nice.

I was able to butcher several smaller bushes and get the cuttings into the trash can, I also removed some leaves and was able to get them in a trash bag. Is the Don done, nope. Whatever he is able to do today in the removal of unwanted plant parts, is all he will get done for a while. Today is said to be the last warm day for a couple days. They have said we will be in the 80s a couple days next week.

I believe I have the day off from picking up Dave or the grandkids, Dave should have the car today, as his wife has the day off, and the kids are out of school.

I did not get gas in my favorite wife’s van yesterday; I had thought I would drive it to supper and get the gas on the way home. I drove the Ford’s ole Chevy to supper and did not think about gas until we were on the way home. I will need to get the gas this morning before she heads out to town.

I have noticed the color green starting to show up in the front yard. it is not to a point of needing mowing, but the green is becoming visible. It will not be long before I will need the Ford’s yard man every weekend.

Well, I think I will stop for now, and see if I can drag my ole body from this office chair to the front room and crawl into the Ford’s ole recliner. We hope everyone has a good Friday, be careful in all you do, and say something nice to at least one person.

February 15, 2024

Good morning from the Fords to you all. We hope you had a good day yesterday and we hope this day will be filled with safe, and nice events. My events for today have no real plans, I might take some clothes to the cleaners, and we will likely go out for supper this evening. It has been suggested that I get gas in the Ford’s ole van, so my wife does not need to do it.

I was able to get my hair cut yesterday; I used the coupon and the price was basically half off the regular price. That allowed me to have enough funding to get a real cup of coffee from the coffee place, before I headed for home.

I was able to trim a few more bushes here at the Ford’s homestead yesterday, these were on the north end of the house, no, I do not have a photo this time, you are welcome (I heard you say thank goodness he doesn’t have another photo). I may be allowed to trim some of the smaller bushes today, the problem with that is I will need to be on my ole knees, both, praying and working. These bushes have stickers on them and that means this ole senior retired person may be injured multiple times during the process.

One would think that a neighbor would come and help an ole retired person working in the yard, wait a minute, almost every one on this street are ole retired people, there are a few real people but they have jobs and are never home when us ole retired people are working in the yards. I just heard one of you say, “maybe the Don should go help his neighbors”. The Don would go offer to help a neighbor, but, most ole retired people like to think they can still do it themselves.

When I rolled out of bed this morning, I found that I was experiencing a little vertigo. This time it was not too bad but it is irritating, so I got back in bed and did the suggested head leaning that the doctors had provided. One would not think that laying there with your head leaning in various positions would help, but it does.

I guess I will stop for now, maybe a cup of homemade coffee or a rest period before I am allowed to vacuum the floor. We hope your day is safe and filled with nice people, or at least nice thoughts.

February 14, 2024

Happy Valentine’s Day, even though I did not get you a valentine. Ole people can’t be expected to buy a present for all you real people, we don’t have the funding, or the will, to get out and shop for candy and flowers.

The Don has a few plans for today, and a couple photos from yesterday that he would like to share with most of you. But first, let me say thanks to all who have requested that they stay on the email list for my journals (aka blog) postings, your names are on the new list. Anyone wanting to stay on the list but has not responded, has until the last day of this month to let me know to keep you on the list.

Today: I hope to get my hair cut, as I have a half price coupon and you know us ole people need to save money. I did get a valentine card from my favorite wife this morning and I gave her one also.

I may also get out in the yard and do some trimming around the house today, there are some bushes that need to be trimmed.

Yesterday after lunch: I had decided to go to the pharmacy to get my prescription but when I walked outside the weather was so nice that I decided to trim a few bushes in the back 40. It was just too nice of a day not to do some yard work, even though the ground is still very wet from the recent rains. I do not have a before photo of the bushes, but I have a photo of the Ford’s ole trailer that was empty before the Don started trimming. I do have an after photo of the professional quality work that an ole senior has done.

As you can see, The Don is a hard working ole person. Ok, it wasn’t that hard, but it did take some time.

Different topic: as you may know I pick up the grandkids from school in the afternoons, but is seems as if I am going to get a break. This coming Friday, Monday and Tuesday, the kids will be out of school. The kids explained it as a 5-day weekend.

Well, I know this is a short posting, so I suggest you take a break, get a cup, or maybe take a nap, but what ever you do, please be safe.
