Accomplished 02/28/2020

Well, I got my three projects accomplished Thursday. I had the cup of coffee, got the shirts from the cleaners, and the scrap foot stool is complete. I have my ole feet on the raised scrap foot rest at this time. It works as expected, let us hope it don’t fall apart. Fotos to follow!

It isn’t pretty but it makes my ole feet feel good as I sit here.
I cut some boards yesterday using a hand saw. For those of you who are wealthy and have no idea what a hand saw is, it is a saw, which requires a human (or robot) to move it back and forth repeatedly in order to cut through, in this setting, wooden boards.
If you are a senior person, who does not normally use a hand saw, or other hand tools, you will not understand the effects on an ole persons muscles, the day after using the saw. All their muscles, if they have muscles, hurt!

Today the weather is supposed to be nice and warm with temps close to 70, so I will be allowed to go out and continue the demolishing of the Ford’s ole Fort K. I am at a point of needing to be careful. I will be removing some of the last supporting boards which hold up the 4X4s which are 8 foot long. Removing said supports will allow the post to fall, this senior wood butcher will need to be out of the way. I just thought, I will also need to be aware of where the Tres is, he usually is close to where I am working.

Well, I need to get ready to take Gabi to school, so I need to stop entering data.

Work not and enjoy the day!

For real 02/27/2020

I have occasionally been considered as exaggerating when I said, “it is freezing cold”. Today, it was actually freezing cold this morning, 24 degrees when I first got up. Things to do today, work on a foot rest for the ole office using scrap boards, get shirts from the cleaners, get coffee from the star store
Before you ask, I am a retired senior person on a fixed income, so that is why I will use scrap wood.
I took a photo of the computer screen and I will post it for you. It isn’t very clear due to being a photo of a photo. The photo is of shadows. You can make what you want to of the shadows, maybe you might consider the trees to be holding hands. I saw that I am in the right place, as there is an “X” marking the spot. Don is spot on!
Get it, “X” marks the spot and Don is spot on.

I have a photo of the scrap wood I will be working with when it warms up today. I was able to drag the Ford’s ole table saw out yesterday, and butcher a couple of the scrap boards. I will attempt to extricate my ole senior body from this comfortable chair and go out into the garage and work later today. You might see my only tool box at the top of the photo.

Donations for a larger tool box will be accepted, minimum amount $50 please!
Scrap wood can be made into scrap projects!

In the way 02.26.2020

Now my title line does not say, “on the way”, it states, “In the way!” Before that one reader opens their mouth and asks, have I been in the way of my first wife again, the answer is yes I have, but that has nothing to do with this well written article.
In this article I plan to show and explain how here at the Ford Homestead, we the senior persons are perpetually hindered from accomplishing our daily tasks. I will attempt to show two photos, which were taken just yesterday, of the careless attitudes showing a complete lack of respect for me, the senior retired person at the Ford’s homestead.
In the first photo I had gone to my closet to get some shirts to take to the cleaners. After I have worn a shirt for a week or so I toss it in the floor of the closet where it lays until I have 3 or 4 worn shirts than need to go to the cleaners. There were three shirts in the closet so I decided to get them. I opened the door and what did I see, Charlie was sleeping on the shirts. He appeared to be somewhat unhappy with me for disturbing him. I get no respect! Click to believe.

If that wasn’t enough. That night, after I was able to drag my ole tired body into the Ford’s ole bed room hoping for some restful sleep, I encountered another resident who refused to cooperate with me. I asked him to move several times, but to no avail. All I wanted to do was pull the covers back on the bed and attempt to get my ole body onto the mattress. Since he was unwilling to move I just covered him. It did not seem to affect him, as he did not move. I guess he had accomplished what I wanted to do, he was on the bed sleeping. Photo to follow.

As you can see, I get no respect. For that one person who don’t have their glasses on, there are four feet and one tail sticking out from under the cover.

Respect-less in Hewitt!

Gee Haw 02.25.2020

Well now that I have the title line, it just came to me that there use to be a TV show with an almost similar name, “Hee Haw”, but that has nothing to do with the title line. My title line is Gee, Haw.
My spouse of over half a century and I were in the Ford’s ole Chevy heading to the Barrel restaurant for our noon repast, when an ole song from the 60s came on the radio. Nope, I don’t know the name of the song, but it was about dancing. In one part the singer says, when I say Gee, move to the left, and when I say Haw, move to the right…
I am still on the same subject, just bear with me please. For that one person who has never been around work horses and mules, they would not have known that one could verbally instruct the horse or mule to, move or turn, right or left.
In the olden days, I was around enough work horses to know, Gee means right, and Haw means left.
If one was plowing behind a horse or team of horses, the human would have both hands on the plow handles, and the rains that are used to guide the team would be over one shoulder and around the humans back. If the human needs the horse or team to move over to the right he would say, “Gee over”, in a loud voice and they would move to the right. These terms were also used when getting the team in position to attach them to a wagon. Yes there are other verbal commands but they have nothing to do with the song from the 60s.
To make this short article longer, in my opinion, the ole rock and roll song had the commands backwards!     Yep, I know, no one cares.

Our cat Tres, I mean our dog Tres, has hidden a stuffed toy again. We still do not know where he got the stuffed toy from, it is a white Smurfs toy. He had hidden it once before in the black berry patch, I think I had reported on that. We had not seen the toy of late and then yesterday as I was wondering through the back 40, there it was. I could see just the tip of it sticking out of the ground. Photo to follow, click for your personal review.

Tres has hidden the stuffed toy under the edge of his outside water bucket. If you can see the white area, that will be a foot or a hand of the stuffed toy. Tres likes to hide things, and if he sees that I see where he has hidden it, he will dig it up and move it.

What did I do yesterday since the weather was great and the temp reached 74 degrees? Since no one asked, I will enhance your day with a non-detailed description.
First, I butchered the shrubs at the back of the house. They were from 10 to 12 feet tall, now they are about 7 to 8 foot. The Ford’s ole trailer is about half full of the debris.
Second, I butchered the rose bushes in the back 40, cutting them down to about 4 foot high and they are not hanging out over the edge of the flower beds anymore.
Third, I went to the Ford’s ole Fort K and removed some boards, still a lot to go.
Fourth, I went and picked up Gabi at school.
Fifth, I read the bible. I have been reading my almost new bible, and if you remember I do not normally enjoy reading. I have found it enjoyable reading the bible as I mentally get involved in how those stories took place.
Now you know, I had nothing to do yesterday, just sitting around doing nothing is what this retired senior person is good at!

Hope you have more to do than I do!

Monday 02.24.2020

Well the weekend is over and I had a pretty good weekend. I didn’t work too much, although I did a test removal of a few boards from the ole Fort K. The ground is too wet for a ladder and I will need a ladder on a couple of the bolts. I have found that the bolts are in place very tight. I have a couple photos, one of which shows that I did cut and install some of the boards in a very tight manner. Click to comprehend

In the photo with the senior person present, the cut out on the board is where a bolt was installed. So far, I haven’t been able to remove said bolt.
We went to visit a friend at a nursing home Sunday, he is doing much better, and he is walking a little! Prayers do help!
I have a couple photos from the Ford’s little hot house.

May your flowers all be blooming!

It happened 02. 21.2020

It was a cool afternoon about 3:20pm, I was sitting in the Ford’s ole Chevy with my tablet in hand. The program of solitaire was on and I was playing intently. I had won several games when I started earlier but I was not winning anymore. I had the driver side window cracked about one inch, allowing just a little cool air to come into the vehicle.

I was focused on the game, when I heard what sounded like a gun shot. I do know what a gunshot sounds like. I literally jumped as it sounded very close to my vehicle. I quickly began to look around for someone with a gun. I had decided a long time ago, if I was ever anywhere that someone was shooting people, and I was in my vehicle, I would run over them. I continued to look for a couple minutes but I saw nothing unusual. I decided it must have been something that sounded like a gunshot but not a real gunshot.

A minute or so passed when a police officer walked up to my vehicle and asked if I heard something like a gunshot. I said I did and it scared me. He wanted to know where the sound came from, I said I did not know but it sounded close. He walked to a couple of the cars behind me and I assume asked the same questions.

It was time for the kids to get out of school, but no kids came out. I knew then, they were on lock down. There were other police vehicles on the parking lots. This main parking lot will park close to 300 vehicles. A couple people had gotten out of their vehicle and began walking toward the school when the police told them to get back into their vehicles and stay there.

After about 15 minutes passed, with the police going through the parking areas, they must have decided the sound was not a gunshot so they let the kids come out.

I thought it was a gun shot, a large caliber gun shot, it scared me, I guess it could have been something else. It all ended well!

Diverse subject, I have a tendency to observe actions and listen to comments / words. Possibly this is because I did use body language when dealing with applicants for employment and co-workers. (Did you note I use co-worker and not employee, we were all co-workers employed by the company, am I politically correct again.) For some reason I occasionally hear people on TV say the word, “Important”, but they seem to use a “d” in the place of the first “t”, “Impordant”. Maybe it is easier to say the word with a “d”.

Silent letters in words, why are they there? There are words that begin with “Ph” and they are pronounced as “F”.           Examples, “Pharaoh or Pharmacy”.

Now I know what that one person is going to say, the words come from another country and they pronounce words different than we do. I don’t care, we don’t have to do it.

Body language and words will tell you all!

First time 02.20.2020

The first time for anything, is it good, or is it bad? As I have given long and thoughtful consideration to this subject, (over two minutes) it has occurred to me the answer is, “yes!” You probably have the question in mind, how did this world renowned author, come up with such a probing subject. I will try to enlighten you, the reading public, but first, it has rained again.

As I and the Tres went out for our, I mean his, early morning Potty break, it was still raining. I took my ole senior body over to the Ford’s ole rain gage, where I observed an amount just a little over 2.5 inches. This 2.5 inches has raised the areas February total rain fall amount to second highest ever recorded. Yep the Fords back 40 is standing in water, and I doubt that this standing water will go away as quick as the last large rain fall did (the ground is still wet from the last rain).

Now let us see if I can remember what I was attempting to write about. The first time for anything, is it good, or is it bad? The short answer is, it depends on your view. Allow me to explain my view.

This morning as I was making my first cup of real coffee, I placed to pod onto the coffee maker, and closed down the top. I picked the amount of coffee I wanted and push the start button. While the coffee was being made I went into the front room and turned on the light. Returning to the kitchen I thought the coffee maker sounded funny. I immediately observed that I had not placed a coffee cup under the coffee dispenser. The coffee was draining into the liquid catcher at the bottom, and I quickly place the cup under the dispenser catching the rest of the coffee.

The coffee was caught in the liquid catcher and did not go all over the counter. So what got me to thinking about the first time? That was the first time I can remember, not checking that my coffee cup was in place before I pushed the button. In the past I have always check that but not this time. I guess when we get old we can’t remember to do everything.

Let us consider a different subject, have you observed todays date. There is lots of 2s and 0s in it, “02/20/2020”.

The last topic for the day…

Optimistic person sees most things as positive, aka good!

Pessimistic person sees most things as negative, aka bad!

Which are you, which do you want to be?

What to do? 02.19.2020

In today’s world, most people do not need to ask, “What to do”, as they have numerous projects and or challenges each and every day. Whether one works or not, they have challenges such as, do they eat that extra snack, should I watch this TV program or that one.
Why did I begin to consider this topic? Yesterday, after working on ole Fort K, I decide to take a break and rest my senior body today, and since it is raining today it will be a good day to rest. I have a couple minor tasks for today but they are a part of rest and relaxation.
One might ask, “If I have tasks today, will I be relaxing”, then I would say, “You should consider the tasks”. One task would be, take some shirts to the cleaners, which allows me to get a relaxing cup of coffee from the star coffee place. Then I need to drive into Waco, how is that relaxing you ask, I will purchase a bottle of adult beverage which is totally relaxing. Returning home, I will take a well-deserved nap, what could be better than a relaxing day?
Speaking of relaxing, I have a photo of Tres relaxing. Yep, we get out of bed and he gets into bed. Click to believe.

After a couple days of rain and relaxation, I will be ready to deconstruct the frame of the ole fort. I like that word, “deconstruct”, one definition of the word could be, “To undo what has been done”! I would imagine there are many things that some of us would like to, “Undo what has been done”! An example could be, when you have said something that you wish you hadn’t said, you might wish you could deconstruct that comment.
It is better if one is careful in their comments and actions, then they do not have a need for a, “Deconstruction”!

Construct only what will not need deconstruction!

Never satisfied 02/18/2020

I believe that title line is very true, at least it seems to be true about me. Yesterday, was a federal holiday, and the weather was hot and dry. Before anyone asks, hot means 80 degrees. Now if you were a senior person who was working outside in the unreasonable heat yesterday, with perspiration flowing from your ole senior body, and the few muscles you have left were hurting, you would not be satisfied.
Now I was happy that the winter weather has temporarily left the area, and the day was warm, but I was not satisfied that I was allow to work in the heat.
Today the weather is nice this morning, but it is supposed to be cold, wet and windy this afternoon. I decided to get outside and finish the removal of all the floors and a few 2 X 4 that were attached with screws. I have to date tossed out approx. 10 pounds of screws. When the rain ends and the ground once again becomes dry, I will begin demolishing the framework which is all put together with bolts that are mostly 8 inches long. Some photos to follow click to adore!

Yes, the ole senior person was sitting on the floor which he was unscrewing from the frame, and he was high above the earth. As you should be able to see, the floor behind the senior person was already missing, what if he forgets and steps off the…

(Third photo looking down) Could this senior person be 30 feet above the ground? In the fourth photo we see the floors and walls have been removed.

Tres did not help, he just watched!

What's new 02/17/2020

Today is Sunday and I am here at the key board entering data into this ole computer. We have plans to eat lunch with friends at a local steak house, so our normal Sunday brunch will not happen today. I am sure they will miss us, I wonder, should I call them and tell them we are not coming today. If I don’t called them, they will likely worry as to our health. I am sure they will miss my 25 cent tip (that is not 25 percent, it is 25 cents) I try and not get carried away with tips!
Speaking of dumb commercials, what, no one was speaking of dumb commercials, then allow me to explicate. Do you like that word, “Explicate”, I like it, and you can google it or ask Alexa if you don’t know the meaning.
Commercial; female subject in what appears to be an SUV. It has snowed and she is behind traffic, it appears the road is blocked. She turns the SUV around and drives away finding another road, where she drives out into a snow filled wilderness. She then parks said SUV, puts her skis on, and takes off downhill, leaving her SUV behind. Then a pop up on the screen indicating you can buy one of the SUVs for only $809 per month. Now we know why she left it in the boonies, she can’t afford it!
Two things. One, who would make a payment of $809 per month, if they could afford that they could pay cash. Two, who would leave their vehicle out in nowhere and ski downhill? Only a dumb commercial would do that.
Subject transformation: It seems to be a very nice day with temp in the mid-70s. I have continue the demolishing project that I had started. I have charged the batteries to my drills which allow me to remove the wood screws. I do keep a magnet available as I do not drop a screw without immediately finding it, and picking it up. I do not like the idea of sharp objects laying around on the ground. Outside walls have been removed. Hard work starts today.
Photos of progress to follow, click to believe.

Lets cover one last topic prior to concluding his under interesting article. I had planted a stick that we bought and it is supose to be a black berry plant (photo below). I dought that it will live. That is coffee around the base. If you click on the photo and see some green, that is a weed, the stick appears to not be alive. We kept the receipt and can get our money back.

Three stooges 02/15/2020

It was a cold but not very windy winter morning, the sky was cloudy but not supposed to rain, as I sat here at the Ford’s ole computer hoping to come up with something to write about. As usual, our cat Tres was under foot, so I was sitting sideways at the desk as I attempted to enter this data into the Ford’s ole computer. The TV located next to the computer monitor was on, and the so-called news was being repeated. I personally am sick and tired of the same crap (aka news) and the same commercials, all the time. Yes, I believe you are correct, this senior retired person sees too much TV.
So what did I do, I changed channels. The three stooges was on and I watched. The three stooges TV shows do not make much sense, but they are better than that so-called news.

My ole computer has a tendency to basically take a break for about 5 seconds, and then start again. I attempt to move the mouse and the cursor just stops, after a few seconds it starts again. Just a short break, I guess the old computer has to stop the cursor while it is thinking, then when it has decided what to do, it allows the cursor to move again. Senior retired persons can’t afford new computers.

Heck one of my emails is still not working and I haven’t been able to fix it. Oddly enough, I can still get the email on the somewhat smart phone, and then I can forward it to the other email that is still working on my ole computer. The problem is I have no idea what the password is. I know what I put in when the email was originally installed, but that don’t work. I assume the password was changed somehow.
I have considered deleting the email from the computer and then reinstalling it but I have a fear that it might also stop working on the phone if I do.

The Ford’s ole water heater has given up! Here is the short explanation of the event. As I was being forced, I mean allowed, to wash the dishes the other night, the water became so hot it was hurting my hands. That evening during shower time the water was so hot that it was difficult to take the shower. Then the next day there was no hot water.
Being a retired senior person on a fixed income, I hated to do it but, I called the plumber. The plumber said, the heater needed a new thermostat and new heating elements. He drained the water heater, there was a lot of buildup in the bottom of the heater, but it drained ok.

Above photo is of water on the drive way from the water heater. The white stuff is the build up from the water heater.
We noted that we would like to have a tank-less water heater in the future. The plumber said it would be very expensive. He said we would need all new wire from the panel to the heater and possibly a new panel, he was not in favor of tank-less.

What day is it 02/12/2020

Did it rain? If you live in this area, you do not need to ask that question, but for those who live elsewhere, it rained!

I have a problem today, I can’t get close to the key board as our cat Tres has taken a nap under my desk. Yes I have been calling him a cat, as he is acting like a cat. He whines when he wants attention, he tries to get on your lap, yes a 95 pound cat who tries to get on your lap, he is always under foot, and he needs a bath. Maybe I could just put soap on him and put him outside in the rain.

Let me get back to the rain situation. We needed rain as we were a couple inches behind but I think that may have changed. Yesterday, I checked the rain gage and it was at less than 1 inch. This morning when I allowed our cat Tres to go out to relieve himself, the rain gage was showing 4.5 inches, and it is still raining. This is the first time in a long time that there is water standing in the back yard.

Tres and I went to the neighbor’s driveway, my goal was to get their newspaper but Tres had a different goal. Tres deposited a substantial amount of poop on their front yard. Yes I will retrieve said poop when it quits raining. I just thought of something, our normal cats go to that neighbor’s yard and use it as their restroom, do you think Tres was trying to act like a cat.

I may need to take an umbrella with me this morning when I take Gabi to school. Speaking of Gabi, during the ride to school yesterday I learned that she would like to have a dog. I asked what kind of dog she wanted, thinking she might want Tres, and she said, “Fox red lab”. As I understand it, the fox red labs are rare and much harder to find than the black and chocolate colored labs. She told me she had dreamed about a fox red lab.

I am at page 55 of my story about the beginning of time. I wrote this story several years ago. Now that I am reading it as well as attempting to edit it, I am finding the story interesting.

Subject change, Now that I am a senior person, I think I now understand why my parents and most other senior people back in the olden days, did not like the way younger people dressed, their hair, the beards, the way they acted, and their music. I basically feel the same way about lots of those things today. I guess as a senior person, I do not like change.

New subject, we had 17 calls in the last two day saying, we have a two years subscription and they were going to refund our money. They want us to call them. We did not call, they can keep the money.

Trust or reliable 02/11/2020

I began to think about the title line wondering if trust and reliable were the same. My answer to that is, they can be the same, but do not have to be the same.

You should have asked, why did this author begin to consider that statement, but you didn’t! Since you were not alert enough to ask the question, I think you need to go get a cup of coffee, and drink it, before you read any more of this soon to be well-thought-out article.

Waiting!         Waiting!         Waiting!         Ok, you are back finally!

A friend called me Sunday afternoon and said that they were out of town and going on a vacation. They requested that I keep an eye on their home while they were gone. I said it would not be a problem and they should have fun.

Now I have kept an eye on several neighbors homes over the years, so when asked this time I began to consider, am I trusted or reliable. Depending on the neighbor I might just watch their house for any unexpected visitors. There are times when I check the doors to be sure they are locked, and I review all the windows to be sure there was no entry. I have also watered flowers as needed during the summer months. Heck I had a key to one neighbor’s house for several years, and on two occasions it came in handy when they needed to get in, and did not have their key.

As I considered am I trusted or reliable it came to me, I could be both, but just because someone is reliable does not mean they are to be trusted. What if you have an employee who arrives at work on time every day, and she puts in a full day’s work. That makes her reliable but not necessarily trustworthy, as she may be removing items from her work area without permission. (For that one reader, that means she is both reliable, and a thief.)

I do remember stealing an item one time, and one time only. We were in the grocery store and mom and I were together. I reached up and grabbed a grape off the cooler shelf and ate it. I then got another and I told mom the grapes are good. Mom grabbed me by the arm and took me to one of the store employees and made me confess, I also got a spanking. That was the only time I stole anything. I might have been 5 years old.

Obviously, just because one is trusted does not mean they are reliable. You can trust an employee with a million dollars, but that doesn’t mean she will come to work on time, or that she will not over stay her break.

As for me I like to think I am trusted and reliable, but the real answer may be that either my present spouse or me, are usually home and usually have a good idea of what is happening in the community. Does that mean we are nosy? J

Different subject, it has rained and we are supposed to get more. I checked the rain gage and we had between ¼ and ½ inch. I would have said we had 3/8 inch of rain but I know, that one person has no mathematical skills. If I had said 3/8 inch of rain, I would have then had to explain, you divide an inch into eight pieces and then stack 3 of them on top each other and that is 3/8 inch. Then that one person would have asked, “How do you stack parts of rain”. I don’t know why I even try.

Changing topics, I have been reading my story about the beginning of time, (I have gotten through 49 of 70 pages), in an effort to edit it. I have added a few commas, and removed or changed a few words. At one point I had written sea food, and in the next sentence it was see food. That is why we edit stories.

I like sea food, but I would rather eat food, than see food!

Yep, I know, that was a dumb statement!

Trust him or her until…!

The weekend 02/10/2020

The weekend in review, that is, in my view.
Saturday morning we went to Alex’s basketball game. It was a close game but Alex’s team lost by 2 points. After the game my spouse of half a century and I went for lunch, we had pizza. It was an excellent pizza and there was pleasant conversation.
Arriving home there was a short nap for the ole retired senior person. Then I went out and started removing some of the boards from the Ford’s ole, “Fort K”. What is Fort K, it is the fort I built for the kids, that is where the K comes in. This removal of some boards was a test run just to see what I will need to do. I did an excellent job of putting it together and it will be a task to take it apart. I intend to use some of the lumber from Fort K to build a small shed for the riding mower.
Sunday started off with light rain and temps in the mid-50s. We need the rain so no complaints on my part. We had lunch and after lunch we went to visit a friend who is in a nursing home. He is doing better, he is now able to eat and drink which had been a problem. He seemed in good spirits, he needs to get his strength back.
Different subject: I took a photo the other night of the moon. I was trying to get the moon but all the surroundings made the photo much better, and the moon was very large. I did put the photo on Facebook. Click to enhance.

You are correct! I am an excellent photographer even when I use by kind of smart phone. Speaking of cameras, I thought I had lost my monopod, so I bought another. The next day, I found the first monopod.    Stuff happens!           Tripod is three, monopod is one!
Some stories in the bible are more thought-provoking for me, than I remembered. The following is part of a story and it may not be worded exactly as it was in the bible.
Two angels came to Sodom, Lot met them at the gate. They went to his house where later the house was surrounded by men of the city wanting to have relations with the two. Lot offered them his two daughters, but the men from the city wanted the two angels, who I believe appeared to be as men. The men from the city were trying to break the door down, when the angels cause them to be blinded.
Lot, his wife and daughters were told to leave Sodom and do not look back for any reason. The city and surrounding areas were being destroyed. His wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.
Lot and his two daughters were living in a cave after the destruction of the city. The oldest daughter told the younger daughter, our father is old there is no man on earth to come in to us. They decide to get their dad drunk on wine and then have sex with him to preserve their family through their father. They both got pregnant and both had boys.
            What a story!

What one remembers, may not be!
