In the Beginning was the 01/01/2021

In the beginning was the sound and the sound was more than he could stand.

It was a cold morning the first day of the new year, the rain had finally come to an end. The water from the 4.5-inch rain that had been standing in the back yard, was for the most part now soaked into the ground. Being soaked into the ground does not mean things are dry, just not standing in water.

The rain gage is old, and if we weren't on a fixed income, we might be able to replace it. One should be able to see the amount of water in the gage.

I was sitting in the Ford's recliner scanning through the channels looking for something to watch on TV. Since it was the first day of the year, it seemed as if the so-called news people were on holiday. There was a bunch of programs reviewing the past year. Not wanting to remember things of the past year, I stopped on the channel with the old black and white movies, and the movie that was playing had a female opera singer. She was singing in a very high voice and suddenly, from our bed room there came a sound. It was the sound of Tres howling. I then heard my wife say, "What's wrong with you Tres?" I quickly changed the channel and Tres stopped howling. Evidently Tres can't handle opera!

Allow for a subject change please; this is an olden day's memory. I have no idea why this would pop up in my ole head but it did. In the olden days there was several of us fellows from Missouri, who were dating females from Illinois. One of the guys, Jim was getting married and the wedding was in a small church in Illinois. Myself and a couple other friends were in attendance at the wedding. One of us came up with the idea of getting some Limburger Cheese and putting it on the motor of Jim's car. Our thought was that when Jim and his new wife got in the car and headed to where ever they were going for their first night, the motor would melt the cheese, and they would have this bad smell as they drove.

Well, we later learned that it worked. They told us that the smell filled the car and it even got into there luggage. Yep, they said their clothes smell like limburger cheese. What sounded like a good joke, turned out to not be funny!

Today; I need to disconnect all the outside decorations. We let them light up each night until the new year. Next week, if it dries up enough, we will need to remove and put back into storage the decorations. It is not an easy task.

I also need to water the flowers in the hot house today, even though it is cold and uninviting outside.

Even though no one asked, I will inform you that we will have black eyed peas as a part of our lunch today. Eating the black eye peas on the first day of the new year is supposed to bring one good luck. Before you start telling me of different foods for good luck in the new year, we are aware that different areas had different food. We have a friend who usually brings us sourcrout and pork, as their good luck new years day food.

I have the Alexa on with music from the 60s playing. Ole songs that bring a lot of ole memories! 😊

Well, Good Luck!

                        We might all need it!
