Lost and not found 09/04/2021

The Don lost his billfold yesterday at 10:00am. Allow me to make a short story longer, by elaborating on a few things. Hopefully, I will be able to offer a couple suggestions at the end of this documentation, which could help those who have and use a billfold or wallet.

It was a normal summer day; the sun was shining brightly as The Don was going about his personal business. The Don had been to the vet, stopped at the coffee place, dropped in on his past employer, and then headed for the teller machine at his bank.

Arriving at the teller machine The Don reached for his billfold which was in his back pocket. Being a retired senior person, it is difficult for The Don to retrieve his billfold from his back pocket while sitting in the seat of the Ford’s ole truck. The Don was eventually able to retrieve the wallet, and as usual before he rolled the window down to access the teller machine, he locked the doors of the pickup.

The locking of the doors is done as a safety concern, this would prevent any bad person from easily opening a door while he access’ the machine.

The Don was able to get his stipends for the week, he placed it in his wallet along with the debit card. The Don, not wanting to go to the extreme exertion of replacing his wallet in his back pocket, he put the wallet under his left leg, knowing that he was going to drive around the corner from the bank to the pharmacy to get a prescription.

The Don arrived at the pharmacy and parked, his focus was on getting the mask that he would wear into the pharmacy. This is where the problem begins; he got out of the vehicle not thinking about his wallet, which was under his left leg.

The Don walked to the pharmacy and went inside. There was no one in front of him so he was inside less than 5 minutes. The Don paid for the prescription with cash from his front pocket. The Don returned to his vehicle not knowing he did not have his billfold.

The Don was home for about an hour before he missed his wallet. He went to the truck expecting to see it laying on the seat, it was not there.

This is where real panic set in. The Don called the pharmacy and asked them to check the lot for his wallet, they did and it was not there.

The rest of the day was spent in canceling debit and credit cards, and applying for a new license, putting a stop on blank checks that were in his wallet. Have you ever tried to remember everything that you have in your wallet or purse? Yes, there was cash in the wallet.

            Suggestions:

Always secure your wallet in your pocket or purse, never place it where it can be knocked out of the vehicle, or left in the vehicle when you leave it!

Have a complete list of everything in the wallet like debit / credit cards, license, insurance cards and anything with your information on it. This list should include type of card, number from the card, and phone number to call if the card is misplaced.

If you have a printer that also scans, I suggest you also scan all the cards, license and other important info, that way, you have both a list with info and a scan of the items in your wallet!  I don’t need to say this but, “Keep that info at home in a secure place”!

Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.

My hope and prayer is; that the person who took my wallet needed the money, and I pray the money will be a blessing to them. I would also hope that this person would in some way send the wallet with everything except the money back to me.

Don’t be careless with wallets!

Senior ole person who will be more careful, Don the Ford
