Before and After 09/06/2019

If you read the title line, you are likely going to be disappointed. I do have an after, but I do not have a before, sorry.
I had to call the air conditioner people to come out and check the unit. He didn’t really find anything wrong but he did put a couple hours in.
After the noon meal and a short nap I went to the front yard and removed weeds and Jasmin vines from the blocks that provide a border in the front yard. I used an ole pair of scissors to cut the vines and I now have a blister on my hand. An after photo to follow.             Yes I need to mow, get off my case!

When I was cleaning up the clippings I found some acorns. One is a single and the other is a twin, photo to follow. Why do the acorns come as twins?

Acorns, are not a blessing, are a curse!

Error # 1 09/04/2019

As the title line indicates, there was an error, and would you believe, it was my first! Error number one (#1) was, I had placed the wrong date on my previous posting. Now as I consider this, I look at it as half an error. I did get the date wrong on the posting but I did get the date right when I save the file on the Ford’s ole computer. So one right and one wrong equals half an error.  I am glad I have that cleared up.
This morning I sat on the Ford’s ole worn out recliner with a real cup of coffee in hand. I had the so-called news on, and I was becoming irritated as the so-called news was the same crap, I mean information that was on yesterday. Even more irritating than the so-called news are the same commercials that will be displayed several times in a 30 minute period. Same so-called news, same commercials!
You are correct! That must make you feel good, actually being correct for once! I should not watch the so-called news and I would not see the repetitive commercials. Thanks!
I started to say, “I will try to stop watching”, and then I remember that Yoda said, “Try not, do or do not”. I will stop watching, or stop complaining.
It is a hectic day at the Ford’s Homestead, and I have a photo as proof. Tres and I had already taken our morning stroll very early, I even carried a flash light as it was dark. Returning I was able to have a cup of real coffee while swinging on the Ford’s somewhat new swing. The photo shows just how energetic we all are as we face this coming day!

The real cup of coffee was good, and it was nice to not have the morning sun shining in my senior eyes.
Well I guess that is it for now, hope your day is all you want it to be.

Try less and do more!                                               Try more and do less!

I tried it 09/04/2019

I popped out of bed and headed for the boy’s room, that part of the morning over I began the dressing process. For that one reader, I will explain the term, “dressing process”. Dressing process does not mean I was going to be making dressing to cook with a turkey, it means I was going to put my clothes on.
When I got to my socks, I started with my right foot, which by the way for me is the wrong foot! Then the left foot. It felt completely odd. When I started to put the shoes on, it was actually difficult for me. I did it, but I don’t think it is anything I want to continue. I like my old habit.
That brings me back to, “being thought of as being annoying or silly”. I tell the grand kids that I want them to remember me as being silly. You might think that is odd, but I do not!
What do I remember about my grandpa?
 He was old.
He had hair growing out of his ears.
When we would pick him up each Sunday morning to go to church, he would get into the car, passenger side of the front seat and as he got in he would knock his hat off.
In his home, he sat in a rocking chair next to the pot belly stove.
I have no memories of him telling me anything, or even talking to me, which I assume he did. When I am gone I would like for my grandkids and others to have a larger memory of me.
Consider the memories of your grandparents.

Different subject; yesterday a neighbor lady as she was walking down the street said to me, “You look like Poppa Bear sitting in the rocking chair”. She went on to say “The chair is large and you fit into it well”. I thanked her and she continued on with her walk.
She is correct, the chair is large and I fit into it well. I guess we could say, “She has a larger memory of me”. Wow, it is working and I didn’t even do anything special other than sit.

Different subject; yesterday as I sat at the fords ole computer I happened to notice movement on one of the security cameras. I clicked on that camera view and it opened to full screen. The lady next door had moved her trash cart onto the drive way. She had a hose and was attempting to clean the trash cart.
When I cleaned mine, I took it to the curb so that any of the disgusting crap that came out would be on the street and if it ever rained, or if I wanted to, it would be washed down the street in front of someone else’ house.
I went on with my computer time but I check back a couple times to see how she was doing. At one point the trash cart appeared to be full of water. I then got up and went to the window for a better look. She had filled the cart with soapy water. I also observed that she was at the end of her hose, so if the hose had been longer she might have taken it to the curb.
The trash cart is large and I estimate it would hold about 50 gallons of water. We all know that water has a weight of 8.3 pounds to the gallon. Rounding the 8.3 off to 8 and multiplying it times 50 would give us…     Ok I know math is not your strong point so I will tell you, there was approx. 400 pounds of water in the trash cart.
Have you ever watched a 130 pound woman try to push a 400 pound trash cart over to drain it, I have. The cart is made of a strong plastic, it did bend some when she pushed it. Some of the water was out when she tried again. This time the cart went over with a loud noise sending a bunch of water down the drive way.

My last comment is true, and then I will close.
The neighbor on my south side has a 4 door Ford 4 X 4, his name is Steve.
The neighbor on my north side has a 4 door Chevy, 4 X 4, his name is Steve.
            If I change my name to Steve would I get a 4 door Dodge 4 X 4?

Be known as something, even if it is Silly!

Labor Day 2019 09/02/2019

As I have stated previously, Labor Day is a day set aside for each of us to Labor all day. You get the day off from your normal work, and this is done so you can find other work to keep you busy all day long.
I have started my Labor Day by walking the dog. Completing that task, I am in front of the Ford’s ole computer laboring at this article. If I am able to complete this article, I will then head out and manicure the front yard. As you may see, I am attempting to keep the Labor Day Holiday spirit alive!
            Now to a different subject:
I have been told, by my spouse of half a century, and others, that I can be annoying. Now many of these annoying attributes are due to habits I have developed over the years, such as making up words, or just making odd noise when I am doing normal things.
I have examined the validity of these comments and find them to be true. I personally enjoy my uniqueness, I understand that others do not. Thusly, I have set out in an attempt to stop, or at least reduce the annoying situations.
As Senior Fellow over Situational Reviews here at the Ford Homestead, I have appraised a few of the annoying situations and have learned, “They are HABITS”. With this information in hand, I have considered how one would change a habitual behavior.
First I needed to pick one of the habitual behaviors that I have identified, and address it fully. I chose one that would seemingly be easy to obliterate. I learned that when I am making a cup of real coffee, I make certain noises. With this one habitual behavior identified, I will eliminate said noise from the process of making of a cup of real coffee.
I intentionally headed to the coffee making area and began the process, all the time telling myself to be quiet. I was able to not verbally make any noise as I put together the cup of real coffee.
It was about 30 minutes later when I again approached the coffee making area and I again remember, “I was not supposed to make any noise”. About half way through the coffee making process I suddenly realized, “I was making noise”. How could this happen I thought, and then it came to me, “It is thoughts that distract me from the goal at hand”.
To change a habitual behavior one should stay focused on the needed change!
As I was making the second cup of real coffee my thought process changed from avoiding the noise, to what I was going to do later in the morning. As soon as I lost my focus, the old habitual behavior returned.

Now I can see that some of you have lost interest in this subject, while others believe that they can change a habit easily.
                                    Here is a challenge!
I challenge you to change one habitual behavior. I have picked a habit that we all have, and each of you can address without too much mental effort, or can you?
First determine which shoe you put on first (left or right). For the next week, each time you put your shoes on, I challenge you to put the other shoe on first. That also applies to socks. At the end of the week let me know if you were able to, “Change your habitual behavior”!
Don’t attempt to fib to me about the results, and if I were a betting man, I would bet that you will give up attempting to alter the habit. I would also bet that out of habit you will not remember to try to change the habit.

Got to go now, the front yard awaits the man in manicure!

We do most things out of habit, make it a habit to like other people!

Done with August 08/31/2019

What do you mean asking what I have done this morning! I have been busy and you have the nerve to ask me want I have done! If I were you, I would not bother others by asking irritating questions.
Even though it is none of your business what I have been doing, I will overlook your arrogance and allow you to have an insight into my morning activities here at the Ford Homestead.
Several years ago we purchased a new refrigerator. It had problems. They gave our money back. We purchased another new fridge. The old fridge was placed in the garage. The old fridge needed to be defrosted. I defrosted it this morning.
The above paragraph covered about 6 years of Ford history. Happy?
Not that I need to tell you but, I did water the black berries, new patch and old patch this morning, along with the flowers along the back of the homestead. Now that we have Saturday morning out of the way, I will revert to some past history. Angel is finished and placed at the Ford’s ole tree. I had help placing it as it is big and heavy. Photo to follow.

I have another photo of past work history.

Error found 08/30/2019

As I sat here in front of the Ford’s ole computer attempting to think of something to write, that no one would read, I noticed an error here in the Ford’s ole office.
When I saw the error, I corrected it immediately. I then took a photo so you could see the corrected version.
I have a tendency to criticize anyone who has this same situation, and I can’t understand why I had not noticed it earlier. This error has to do with flags. The American flag should always be a little higher than state flags or other flags. The error was, both flags were at the same height.

In the photo the Texas flag is now slightly lower than the American flag. Although the flag doesn’t look a lot lower, in real life it is a good ¼ inch lower. To the left we see our sons and their wives. To the right we see a mirror with part of my face in it, the mirror allows me to see who is behind me without turning around.
There is a holiday this weekend, try to not rest! You might want to volunteer to work! The holiday is Labor Day, which I assume means you should labor all that day!
Subject change:
I have labored all morning (Friday) and have completed the lighting of the angel. That means I will not be forced to Labor on Labor Day! Photo to follow.

This photo was taken in the garage, it should look better outside at night.

Enjoy Labor Day while you work your tail off! J

Team effort 08/30/2019

My spouse of 50 years and I worked together on the angel project today. Was it a team effort? It was a team effort for at least 87% of the time. Did we get done? Nope! Will we finish it today? We had better finish it today or I might be in trouble. (Our efforts in this project cause me to think about team work.)

We are putting rope lights on the angel, tying it on with white wire ties. I used all the wire ties I had here at the homestead, and then I had to purchase 200 more. This is not fun but if we get it completed it will be nice!

Photo if we ever get done.

**********************************************************************

We have all heard of team work, you know, where more than one person is working toward a goal. All too often the so-called team members are not working as partners for the same outcome. When one or more of the, “Team members”, does not due their share, the entire team suffers. This happens all too often!

Team work at an employer is all too often not really a team effort. If you are in charge you should take a real look at what’s going on. Many managers think they know what’s going on because they get input from a chosen few. If you want some good input, stop doing what you have been doing and get involved. Get an outsider to help you review. Those who are retiring, could tell you a lot, if you ask.

            Ask and you shall learn!

            Look and you will find!

Do what you have been doing and you will get the same crap!

Too many of those in charge can’t see the trees due to the forest (aka, don’t understand what is really going on)!

May your day be filled with real team work!

Still nothing to do 08/28/2019

When there is nothing to do, one should look to the angels to keep them occupied. Even though my spouse of 5 decades is angelic, she is not an angel. There is only one angel in our neighborhood, and it isn’t any of the neighbors.
My present wife has allowed me to be with an angel almost all in white. Actually, I ran out of white paint or I would be done with this forced labor I mean angelic project. Photo to follow.

When I again get enough money to purchase a can of white spray paint, I will then attempt to complete this project. It is our intent to light it this time with rope lights. In the past we have used those small white Christmas lights. If we ever finish this project I will try to remember to post a photo of the, “Angelic project of the Fords”!
I have another photo that was taken through the chain link fence and it is of a wild flower. It is growing in the ditch behind the house, even after the city had weed killer sprayed throughout the city ditches. City contractors do poor work!

Well that is all from the Ford homestead lead author. I need to start getting ready to go pick up the Alex from school. He likes it if I go to the chicken place and get him a sweet tea but that takes money. If I wasn’t on a fixed income…
