Birthday 07/16/2021

As we know, today is the day that we celebrate my first wife's birthday, although me and the grand kids did celebrate with my present spouse yesterday. We had a nice meal and then the restaurant gave my favorite wife a free ice cream dessert. I should note, the grand kids did share in the dessert, photo to follow.

It seems as if the dessert was enjoyed. 😊     I didn't get a bite! 😐

Today I plan to mow, or let Alex mow. I hope he wears his shoes and not his sandals. I need to get outside and trim the front yard before Alex starts the mowing process. I did have the grand kids on the riding mower a little while yesterday but there needs to be more time driving it before they can mow with it.

Don't waste time, get to work!

My doctor said 07/15/2021

I did get my annual physical yesterday. My doctor is a lady. At the end of the visit she said, “You are looking good”! Do you think she was flirting with me? Now that I think about it, she may have said, “Everything is looking good”, she may not have been flirting, darn it! The doctor and I talked about a lot of things, even my blog. She actually went on line to see it during the visit.

Story telling time; my favorite granddaughter and I were setting at the kitchen table having lunch yesterday. It was just too quiet as we ate, there was no conversation. I decided to open my mouth for something other than putting food in it. This is where that one person likes to interject some comment, in an effort to belittle me, your almost favorite author. I reject the comment and continue with my story. I decided to relate a story I had written several years ago, as Gabi and I ingest the food.

This story was about time travel. In short, a fellow was able to access a time machine without anyone knowing, and he traveled back in time, in an attempt to convince himself to, not kill someone. Gabi listen and seemed to enjoy the story, and she completely understood the ending.

It rained again yesterday afternoon and early evening, saving the home owners money as we do not need to water the yards.

Let’s get to today; we are planning on going out for lunch with the grand kids to celebrate my favorite wife’s birthday, which is tomorrow. My present spouse suggested that instead of the two of us going out Friday evening for supper, we could go at lunch today with the grand kids. We should have good food and great conversations.

There is not a lot of anything else happening today, we may get the riding mower out and let the grand kids ride it, learning to navigate around flower beds and black berry patches. I think they will stay away from the black berries, in an effort to avoid the stickers. Those darn bushes, seem to reach out and grab you when you walk or ride by.

Maybe it will not rain today, which would make it better for mowing tomorrow.

Be nice to ole people!

Stupid is as stupid does 07/14/2021

Who am I calling stupid? I hate to admit it, in this article, I am the stupid person. Ok, now I know that one person is jumping up and down saying I knew it, he is stupid, and he admits it! Wrong, all knowing one, I am admitting that I was stupid at one time in my life, and now I am just that silly ole senior person!

There was a report on the TV news explaining that a fellow who was in the army, had been swimming in a Texas lake. There was an air mattress like we use in pools that had floated out in the lake. This young soldier swam out to get it, and he never returned, yes, he drowned.

That sad event caused me to think about the olden days. When I was a teenager old enough to drive, I along with some friends went out to trail of tears state park and we were swimming in the lake. I being a stupid young person decided to swim from one end to the other end.

Now I was a good swimmer back then, and I believed I could swim that far, although I had never swum that far before. As I swam, I started to get tired, so I decided to float on my back. Floating on my back was a way to rest. After some floating rest, I began to swim again. It took a lot longer that I thought it would but I did make it to the other end.

Now if you have never been to the trail of tears park, you will not understand the distance I swam. As I walked back along the bank getting back to the area where I started, I thought that I was totally stupid to ever attempt that swim!

As a young person I did a lot of things that now I consider as stupid.

Topic change; the visit to the eye doctor went well, he said at my next 6 months visit I will not need to have my eyes dilated. It is now 6:00pm Tuesday afternoon and my eyes are almost back to normal, after the dilation.

Wednesday; yes, I have a real doctor visit today, it is my annual physical. We receive the new coffee maker yesterday! 😊

I am not able to use the coffee maker this morning, due to the doctor visit, they don't want me to eat so they can sample my blood.

Subject change; I have asked the grand kids to get out and drive the ole riding mower today. This would be a way for them to learn proper operation. Then they can use it to mow the back 40! Less work for this ole senior person! Nice 😊!

May your day be filled with me!

What can I tell you 07/13/2021

Let's see, how should I start? I don't have anything to talk about that would be interesting to you, my favorite reader of the blog!

I have an eye doctor appointment this morning, its my six-month visit, they will likely dilate my eyes, I just love that, "NOT".

Speaking of doctor's appointments, I have my yearly physical tomorrow morning.

Let us continue with doctors' comments, my wife has an appointment with her allergist today. Wow we are helping keep the medical people employed!

If I may, I would like to change the topic; this morning when we were getting ready to get the paper, there was a person walking his dog down the street. Can you believe some stranger would walk a dog down our street? We had to wait until this person and dog walked to the end of the block and back before we could go out to get the paper.

Then when Tres and I were walking, there was another person walking his dogs. Yes, I said dogs, he had two dogs. His dogs barked at us, and Tres barked at his dogs. Why can't these people wait until Tres and I finish walking, then they are welcome to walk!

Topic change, the grand kids are here today, we always enjoy having them here. I asked Alex if he was willing to mow the front yard this coming Friday, allowing this ole senior person to rest. He said he would mow the yard! 😊

Yesterday, we received enough rain that we did not need to have the lawn sprinklers on today.

The neighbor who is putting his house up for sale has been working to make the outside look a little better. They planted some flowers near the front door which looks nice, and he mowed and trimmed the yard which also improves the look of the house. They are good neighbors; I hope any new neighbors will be as good.

There may be some good news, our new coffee maker is in Waco and should be delivered today, along with the carton of coffee pods! 😊

Well, I guess I should get dressed to go to the eye doctor. Visits to the eye doctor are basically hurry up, and wait, with wait being used most! 😐

May your day be doctorless!

Well, its Monday 07/12/2021

Yep, it is Monday again. We have not yet received the new coffee maker; it was in Mesquite Texas this morning at 3:00am, which means it might make it here today.

We have the grand kids all week this week, the other grandparents who normally have them on Monday and Tuesday, are out of town. Maybe I can get one of the grand kids to mow the front yard at the end of the week.

Speaking of working in the yards, I went to the ditch behind the homestead yesterday and cut down some of the weeds. I did not get them all as there is water in the ditch, and I did not want to walk through the mud and water. Photos of ditch, before and after, to follow.

When the mud and water leaves, I will address the other side. Most residents do not keep the weeds in the ditch cut down, even though they own the property.

I also worked on the number 3 berry patch, all 6 plants living at this time. I did add some top soil and watered the area.

I understand that the mocking birds that make a lot of noise at night may be a lonely male, hoping to find a mate. A friend who knows a lot about birds informed me of that.

Well, I need to get away from this puter so my grandson can use the desk.

Coffee 07/11/2021

As the reading public should know, if they had read recent postings, our coffee machine broke and there is a replacement on its way to the Ford Homestead. As you might know, I am experimenting on using a coffee maker that makes a pot of coffee. Experiment is the correct term, as I have not yet mastered the maker, and the coffee taste like…

The new coffee maker is coming from California via UPS, who knows how long that will take. As I now understand it, stopping coffee can be a little like when one stops smoking, one can be in a bad mood, and I am there😊

I did mow the front yard after the Tres took me for a walk yesterday. I got the mower out and brought it to the front yard, and it started very light sprinkling. I asked for help from above, requesting that the rain be postponed until I got done. The light rain stopped and I mowed.

The grass was so tall, I was cutting 4 to 5 inches of grass off the yard. That much cut grass, laying on top of the grass, don't look good. I had thought I would mow over the yard a second time, which would mulch the excess grass.

As soon as I finished mowing the first pass, and blowing the grass from the street, it began to rain. No second pass over the front yard, and that might mean I would not get to mow the back yard, depending on how long the rain lasted.

My present spouse and I took the grand kids out to lunch, and we had a good time.

Returning from lunch I was able to get a short nap, naps are always good after eating, and then I bounced out of the Fords ole recliner and went out back to mow.

I got the rider out and put gas in it, when I started to mow it sprinkled rain. I again asked for a postponement of the rain, and it stopped sprinkling. I was able to get the back yard mowed.

Later at happy time, my favorite wife and I sat outside and enjoyed the afternoon. It was warm and somewhat breezy, so sitting out was actually enjoyable.

We had chili for supper, and chili is not just for cold weather, chili is good any time.

No plans for today, there is supposed to be rain on its way to Hewitt.

Rest, relax, and enjoy the day!

Neighborhood meanie 07/10/2021

As I was a-motivating down the street, I saw a big ole meanie who wanted to eat!

This meanie was a hawk, and he surprised me yesterday morning when he flew up out of a yard and headed down the street, going in the same direction as I was going. He / she was flying close to the ground when suddenly he diverted and flew in front of my vehicle. I saw what this hawk was after, it was a baby white wing dove in the street.

This baby dove should not be out of the nest, and if you have ever seen the way these doves build their nests, you might wonder how the doves survive. I drove on, and I do not know if the hawk came back and had the baby dove for lunch or not.

Speaking of birds, there is a mockingbird in a tree not too far from my bedroom window. This bird may have a sleeping problem. I have heard this bird making various noises from as early as 3:30am, and almost every day from 4:30 to daylight. I wonder why this bird is making these noises in the dark?

Well, the rein kept me from mowing yesterday, even though one of the neighbors did mow. I will attempt to mow this morning, after I pick up sticks and dog poo from the yards.

Back to yesterday; I went outside for a little time to meditate on the world’s problems, and to enjoy an adult beverage, yep it was 5:00pm, aka happy hour. As I sat there enjoying the quiet, things became un-quiet. You may not believe this but, there was a hawk and I believe he was either robbing nest of little birds, or he was finding little birds that had just came out of their nest.

Every bird in the neighborhood was making noise, in an attempt to get the hawk to leave, but he didn’t leave. This noise went on for probably 10 minutes, as the hawk moved around and through a few trees. I felt sorry for the smaller birds, but I guess that is nature’s way.

Meditate daily, it is good for you!

Good news 07/09/2021

Wow, did I say I had some good news? Could that good news be that I was able to make my ole body get outside yesterday, and trim the front and back yards. Well, I did do that, and that is kinda good news, but it isn't the best good news! 😐

Could food be the good news? My favorite spouse and I went to lunch with some friends yesterday, in an early celebration of Donna's upcoming, "Day of birth", which will be on July 16th. We had lots of fun talking about everything, and the food was good. What could be better, but that wasn't the best good news! 😐

As you would know, if you had read the previous blog posting, our Keurig coffee maker broke. My present spouse of 52 years had a brand-new coffee pot in storage in the garage, it had never been used. She bought it some time ago to have, in case we had company, and the single cup Keurig would be put out of the way, in favor of a full pot of coffee. Well since the Keurig is broken, I have put the new pot in service. Yep, I had coffee this morning! 😊

But that isn't the best news! 😐

Wow, the suspense builds! What could the Don be thinking of as, "Good news"?

Ok, it is raining, and the grass is wet, so the Don will not be mowing the yards unless it stops raining! Wow, no strenuous work for a senior retired person on this wonderful Friday! 😊

But that isn't the best news! 😐

The good news is, I called Keurig and told them about my broken coffee maker. Since it was only 3 months old, and there is a 12-month warrantee, they are sending us a new Keurig! That is the good news! 😊

There is more good news, they are also sending a box of coffee pods to us, free of charge. Now I consider that as good service. A free new coffee maker and a free box of coffee pods! 😊

Hope you have good news too!
