November 8, 2023

We made it through Tuesday and are now into Wednesday, will we make it through this day without any problems?

I did very little yesterday while my favorite wife finished making the tamales. I did help wash the pots and pans, and after that strenuous washing I was able to get a short nap. The temp was 85 degrees according to the Ford’s new temperature gage, and around 100 in the so-called hot house, yes, the door to the hot house was open allowing some air movement.

We are supposed to get some rain tomorrow and there is a cold front coming. They are not predicting any freezing weather, but it should be a lot cooler. My favorite wife and I were able to get the dog washed yesterday. We wet the Tres down, then we soap him up, then we let him run around the yard with the soap on him, then we rinse the soap off, then we attempt to dry him with a towel, which becomes a pulling match. Tres likes to play tug-of-war with the towel. One of the things he will do during a wash job, is kind of irritating. When we let him run around the yard with the soap on him, he has a tendency to find some dirt to dig in, and he digs.

Speaking of the Tres we have completed our walk for the day and today we had a lady who lives down the street walk with us. She usually walks with another lady on our block but the other lady went to bible study this morning, so she walked with us.

I need to do one of two things today, that is pull some weeds from the back 40, or cut some limbs from the red oak trees. Both require a lot of effort, and this ole person don’t have much effort.

I did alert my favorite grandson yesterday to the possibility of mowing the back 40 this Saturday, depending on how much rain we get tomorrow. I also noted that when Granny starts putting up the Christmas decorations, I expect him to be here at the homestead to help. I do not plan on climbing on the ladder.

Well, I need to get going and do nothing, we hope you have something to do today, and if you can, please be safe!

Hello from the Ford’s Homestead to everyone. Yes, we are including everyone in today’s posting, although there isn’t much to talk about today. As usual, I have no plans for the day other than the habitual things I do daily (you can look up the word habitual).

The Tres and I have already taken our walk this morning, he did take us for an additional city block of walking, and I don’t know why. As we were walking up the street, possibly a couple hundred feet from the homestead, an acorn fell from one of the red oak trees. Now you may be wondering how I knew the acorn fell at that time. Well, I will enlighten you, it made a sound that I could hear, even though I was not close to the front yard. This acorn fell on the metal bench that is in the front yard and the sound could be heard around the world, I mean around the area. Consider, if you had a metal plate in your yard and you through a rock at it and hit it, that is the sound this acorn made.

The street is covered in acorns and I may attempt to gather those from the street before the vehicles crush them all. Our neighbor said he has two five-gallon buckets with acorns in them that he will bring to our house today.

I was considering watering the yard today but I checked a couple places in the yard and the dirt is still moist, I will wait for a few days and then consider watering again.

My favorite wife and I did sit outside for a while yesterday afternoon, but without drinks, I don’t have a drink when I am going to bible study, and I did go to bible study yesterday evening.

Our supper last night was Chicken Pot Pie, made and provided by our son Dave. I must say it was very good and there is a little left over for my lunch today, if my present wife doesn’t get to it before me.

It is predicted to get as warm as 84 today, so we will very likely give the Tres a bath this afternoon.

It is now 7:42 am and I need to get a cup of homemade coffee and then get into the Ford’s ole recliner for a short rest period, aka a nap.

We hope your day is fun and profitable, or at least we hope you stay safe.

Free pie, good!

November 6, 2023

Good morning from me to you, and you only, the rest of them can wish for a good morning. Let’s see what happened yesterday here at the Ford homestead. The day got started but we were tired so we did not go out and finish removing the items from the garage sale. It was decided that my favorite wife was not going to cook a lunch, so we got dressed and went to the Cracker store for lunch.

At the cracker store we were able to get a parking space in front of the store, even though there were cars in most of the parking spots. Inside the store it was crowded and we had a 20-minute wait to be seated at a table. Now we had planned on the long wait so that was not a surprise. We ordered our food and waited a long time to get the food. The food was good but the server was not the best. Every table in the place was filled.

Heck, it was so crowded my first wife did not even shop after eating, we just headed for home. Back at the homestead we started to clean up from the sale. Now my present wife did most of the work, I helped a little, I did take the borrowed tables back to their owners, and we have items set aside that we will donate. I have a photo of left over items.

The Tres was guarding the two items. I was able to get the Ford’s ole Chevy parked under the Ford’s somewhat new car port.

All the work done, we put our ole bodies on the swing, with a cold drink in hand, and we enjoyed a little time of rest.

Today I will be taking Dave to the dentist, and I will be required to stay during the procedure, as he will not be able to drive after the tooth removal. Other than that, I do not have a lot planned for today. I will get the grand kids from school this afternoon, and we do have a bible study meeting this evening, maybe I will attempt to remove a few limbs from above the roof. We may reposition the plumeria flowers that are in the garage today.

I guess I should get started with the Dog walk this morning, then, when I return back home, I could have a cup of homemade coffee.

We hope you have a good day, stay safe, and be nice to, “you know who”!

A nothing day!

Well, the sale is over, now we need to clean up all the items that were not sold, some will go to the salvation army, some will end up back in the garage. Personally, if it was my choice, anything that was not sold would be donated or trashed. Most of the items have been sold or donated, some antique dishes have been put away, we will need to return some tables today. We also got a lot of comments on the scrap wood chair which has the words “Time Out and Meditate”, on it. Several wanted a chair like that for their spouse to sit on!

I did gather a bunch of acorns from the front yard yesterday, and I did mow the front yard. I set the mower as high as it would go and I was trying to level off the grass, not reduce the size. I like the short grass in the beginning of the summer, not in the Fall of the year. My back is kind of sore today and I think it is due to the pushing of the acorn remover onto the ground to get the acorns up.

Well, the time has changed, and we have changed most if not all the clocks in the homestead. I know there is one in the garage that needs to be set and also needs a battery. I do not like the time change as I think about it for the first week. Each time I look at the clock I think, what time it would be if the time had not changed. Tres seems to be ok with it except he did come to my side of the bed this morning at what would have been 5:00 ole time, I petted him a little then he jumped on the bed, he wedged himself on the lower end of the bed between the two of us and kept my back side warm until the new 5:00 came.

My favorite wife has noted that she will not be cooking us a lunch today, I guess we may go to the cracker store for breakfast or lunch. Wow, we will be spending the money that was made during the sale.

Yesterday started out like today, it was foggy. Heck, it was foggy until lunch time then the sun came out. After the fog left the sky was blue, not a cloud in sight, photo to follow.

The sky was blue, the day was nice, they made me go get them a cup of ice.

During the sale I was impressed with people who liked to talk. People you do not know, after saying hello, they begin to talk. I think some of these people go to garage sales just so they have someone to talk with. One couple probably talked for about 15 minutes, and they were telling us about their race car, where they live, and everything else.

Well, I need to find out if we are eating out today, and I also need a cup of coffee. That is all for now, have a good day and stay safe.

No more sales

November 4, 2023

We had the garage sale yesterday and again today. I think there were more interesting conversations than there were sales. We will again today sit outside and allow other to view our valuable items.

Personally, I don’t like these garage or yard sales, call them what you like. I did sell the electric bike yesterday, that will make a little more room in the garage, lets hope we get rid of more items today. We are hoping to get rid of a bunch of these items, we need the room in the garage. Some of the items that we don’t sale can be donated to the salvation army.

The weather is good and I will probably get to mow the front yard today. I should be able to mow if I keep my eyes open for any one walking up the drive way. I did water the flowers in the ole hot house yesterday, and I left the door open as the sun was shining, and the hot house was hot! Even though we have had all that rain, I am considering turning the sprinklers on next week, may be with a shorter run time.

I did go get a breakfast burrito for me and the favorite wife this morning, but we will not be able to go to town for a sandwich today for lunch, as we will be forced, I mean allowed to stay here on the driveway.

This might sound a little odd to you, even after being outside all day my present spouse and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon with a cold drink in hand. You know, we needed to unwind after all that stress filled sales talk, with those customers.

I just thought, we need to set the clock back one hour when we go to bed to night, as day lite saving time changes, I might change the clock here in the ole office when I finish with this soon to be short and un-enlightening post.

We hope you have a good day, please stay safe, and help us poor people who have these garage sales, buy something, even if you don’t need it.

November 3, 2023

It was about 6:30 this morning and I was sitting here at the Ford’s ole desk and I have seen vehicles drive down the street. There is no question these were people who go to garage sales, if they weren’t, they would not have slowed down as they drove in front of our house. Then two vehicles stopped in front of our house and people got out. I knew they were going to attempt to see what we have on display. Tres barked at them, and I walked outside and they asked when the sale starts. I said 8:00, they said thanks and left.

I will be outside with the wife and will not be adding to this blog posting.

Have a good day, be safe.

November 2, 2023

We are now at Thursday, the weather is still cold, and I have things I should do today. my wife is planning the garage sale, actually it will be a driveway sale, for Friday and Saturday. Wow, sounds like lots of fun, you know sitting and waiting for someone to drop by.

As you may have determined, I am not a garage sale person, even though we would like to get rid of many of the items in the garage. I am sure we do not have enough tables to display the items, and then what do we do with the left-over items.

I would like to change the subject but it keeps popping back in my silly head. Yesterday I did very little, I was going to take Dave to the dentists and when I arrived at his house his wife Claire was there so she took him. I did not need to get the kids from school as Clair was able to do that. With nothing to do I was able to recover some acorns from the front yard, that was fun, not! The weather was kind of nice yesterday afternoon, my favorite wife and I did sit outside for a while but as soon as the sun got off of us, we went inside.

I did get the new temperature gage and have installed it in the so-called hot house. The present outside weather is 32 degrees and the hot house is 43 degrees. I have the master unit here on the ole desk and I can easily see the temps.

Well, I guess I need to get to thinking about all the things I will need to do to help my favorite wife with the sale. We hope you have a good day, stay safe and try to keep warm.

November 1, 2023

We made it through Halloween, we did not answer the door when the goblins knocked or rang the doorbell. One good thing about the ring door bell, I can see who is there without going to the door and I can talk with them without opening the door. We had a few come to the door, but not many.

The grand kids came to the house this morning, it is the first of the month and Claire has to report to work early. I had forgot that they were coming, and when I remembered, I was just verily able to get dressed before they arrived. We did go to the star coffee place for a cup, and then I took them to school. First cup of real coffee in a month.

It was supposed to freeze last night but they said it did not. I did see what appeared to be frost on top of a neighbor’s home. The weather people may not be right all the time. My new thermometer is supposed to be here today, I plan to put it in the hot house so I can see how cold or hot it is, without going outside.

I might attempt to retrieve some of the acorns that seem to cover the yard today, if I can stand the cold. I picked up debris from the front and back yards yesterday, I know I got at least three five-gallon buckets of debris. The back 40 was not as bad as the front.

The grass looks as if it needs to be mowed, maybe a frost will stop it from growing.

Did I say that my favorite wife plans to have a garage sale this Friday and Saturday. We got the permit and maybe she will be able to sell some of the items. We would both like to see the garage more or less empty.

I guess that is it for now, have a nice day, stay warm and please be safe.
