No burrito 07.09.2022

            It is Saturday, and I did not get a burrito. It would have been nice to have something to eat, but when you are on a fixed income, you only get leftovers, if there are any.

This morning I was allowed to water the plants out front, and the black berry beds out back. I have two small black berry plants in pots, and I water them daily. With all the heat we are having, I am not sure if the small plants will make it or not.

My favorite wife decided to pull weeds from a couple flower beds this morning, so I decided to attack the #1 berry bed, attempting to remove all this year’s growth. Photo at the beginning of the trimming, and after the trimming was done. It is not perfect, but it is better.  

 

  

             I put my tools away and headed in for a shower, and I did all that by 9:00am.

Well, I do have a cup of coffee here on the desk with me while I try to enlighten the reading public.

Subject change, odd topic: this story takes place in my bed last night, don’t get any crazy ideas, just read what I write. Now I always have dreams, some are nice, and some are odd, last nights was odd, and the reason, to me, seems even more odd.

It seems as if I had been working with some type of plant, and my hands began to itch, so I rubbed them back and forth across the front of my shirt (remember it is a dream).  Now that isn’t too odd, but when I was trying to wake up (you know half awake and half asleep) I was rubbing my hands across the cover on the bed. I would rub my hands, but they would not stop itching. I finally became aware, (that means I was no longer half asleep), that both of my hands were itching for real. At the base of both of my thumbs my hands were itching, and I could not stop the itching.

Now that I was awake, I decided to get up and see what was causing the itching. After some careful review of the area at the base of both thumbs, I determined the problem. You might find this difficult to believe but it is true, I had two mosquito bites, one each at the base of each thumb. I told you it was an odd topic, and no, I did not find the mosquito. Yes, I did stop the itching.

Well, I guess that is it for now, I might try to get a little rest on the Ford’s ole rocker.

Good deal 07.08.2022

            Allow the Don to begin with a tale of a good deal. I had gone into the big city of Waco to purchase a tarp for the Ford’s ole riding mower, and I decided to stop by the liquor emporium and get a couple bottles of adult beverages. Two bottles at one time means less trips to town. I went through the drive through, and the lady came to the window and I told her what I wanted, I handed her the money and she walked away.

            When the lady returned, she told me, “The price has gone up, but you are old school, so I give you old price.”  This lady talks with a slight accent and she has worked there for several years, heck she may be the owner. By me being old school, she meant, I have purchased from them for several years. It was nice to get a good deal!

            Yesterday was a kind of do-nothing day, heck it was too hot to work outside, and today is supposed to be even hotter.

            My favorite wife and I did go out for supper and upon returning to the homestead we decided to ignore the heat and sit outside for a while. I did set up a fan and a water mister to help keep things cool. It worked some, but a larger fan would have been better.

            As we sat there in the heat talking about world problems, a couple neighbor ladies came over. I did get them chairs, and we all enjoyed lively conversations. A little later a husband to one of the ladies came over and joined the discussions.

            I did bring up a comment that I had taken from the bible, and it was, “a prostitute was caught in the act, and they wanted to stone her (for the one person, stoning a person means, kill them by throwing stones at them). My question is, why did they want to kill the woman, and do nothing to the man, he was an equal participant? 

            Anyway, we enjoyed the conversations with some of our neighborhood friends yesterday.

Silly grandpa 07.07.2022

            Good morning to those of you who get up before noon, to the rest of you we say good day! Now I don’t want to waste your time so I will get to the point fairly quickly, which may allow you to interact with a friend or even your spouse.

            As anyone who reads my postings knows, I like to refer to myself as silly grandpa to the grand kids. Now as I see it, silly isn’t bad but crazy might be a little over the hill, when referring to, a senior retired Grandpa.

            What brough all this up, allow me to tell you. The other afternoon this ole senior retired person went outside and had a short project to do, so he placed the tool he would use on the table by his ole rocking chair. He then placed a glass of cold water and his sunglasses on the table. It took a couple minutes for him to complete said project, and no, you do not need to know what the project was, it has nothing to do with this story.

            Project finished, the Don picked up the tool and the glass that had the cold water in it and he looked for, but could not find, his sunglasses. Now he knew he had laid them on the table, but they were not there. He got up and looked under the table, thinking they may have fallen off.

Now I can see that you already have decided that the Don had them on top of his head. “Wrong”, he did not have them on his head, that will teach you to not jump to conclusions, and do not get ahead of the senior retired author of this soon to be interesting posting.

            The Don found that he was “wearing” them, yep, he was looking through the sunglasses while he was hunting for the sunglasses, which he had on. Now, is that silly or is that crazy?

           Let us adjust topics: on July 3^rd, I had posted a comment and photo! Today I have a similar comment and a photo.

    In the beginning there was a bud, the bud was not the flower, now it has bloomed, and it is the flower!

            It is now nap time, have a good day!

A few projects 07.05.2022

            I don’t have anything to talk about today, I need to do some weed trimming but I don’t need to bother you with that. I hope to get started in a few minutes and beat the heat a little.

            The 4^th was nice and quiet, my wife grilled a couple stakes, which were really good. We did not go anywhere, and no one came to the homestead. I did hear some fireworks being fired around mid-night.

            We have had a black cat visiting our back patio for several nights now. The motion detecting camera has provided video of the cat on the back patio. We think it is the same cat we see down the street at a neighbor’s house. Tres likes to bark at this cat when it goes up and down the ditch behind the house.

            Well, I need to get started on the work, hope you have a safe and productive day!

Sun day again 07.03.2022

            Well, before I get started this morning, I think I will get a cup of coffee.

            Got it 😊, we had enough for, "one whole cup of coffee", nice! Heck, I guess this day is starting out really nice, an ole senior person who has a whole cup of coffee for himself.

            Topic swap: we have satellite radio in both vehicles, I pay by the year, each year on the last day, before they automatically renew the account, I call them and tell them, "I want to cancel". They say they are sorry and look up my account. Then they say we have this special one-time price, which is usually about half of what it would have been if it automatically renewed. I pause for a few seconds, and then say ok. Saturday, I called to cancel, they are closed on the weekends, I will call back Monday. If they don't offer a special price, then they can cancel. Last year I paid $76.42, now they want $186.96. 

            Subject alteration: my favorite wife and I sat outside in the heat yesterday afternoon, it was 99 degrees, and we were told, "it felt like 104", I believe them! Our neighbors from across the street came over and sat in the heat with us for a while, we had some fun and interesting conversations.

            Today: I have no real plans, I did water the flowerpots and berry beds in the back 40 this morning and I will likely water the flowers out front today, but other than that, nothing to do.

            In the beginning was the bud, and the bud was with the flower, but the bud was not the flower!

            When the bud becomes a bloom, I hope to provide another photo.

            That is it, I am done for the day, have a safe and fun Fourth of July! What happened to the other three fourths of the holiday?

Satellite radio 07.02.2022

            I have satellite radio in my vehicle, and I have to pay for it. I pay to listen to commercials that I totally do not want to hear. I listen to maybe 4 channels, and that isn’t very often. These channels are, one news channel, one 60s music channel, Symphony Hall channel, and one religious’ channel, and I do not listen every day!

            I always pay by the year, and each year when my subscription is about to renew, I call and tell them to cancel. Then they come up with a better price, about half what the renewal would be, and I say ok renew it. I called today “Saturday” and they are closed, I think the computer said, they will be open 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, call back then.

            So, when I call Monday, I will cancel the subscription. If they offer a better price, I plan to not accept it, as they want monthly automatic payments, and I do not want to do that.

            I know, you real people are all into automatic payments deducted from your accounts, but I am an ole senior retired person, and I don’t want to do that.

            Let’s go to a less irritating topic: I have a photo which I found to be interesting, it is of a cloud and a bird flying below the cloud. I took this photo yesterday afternoon, and before you ask, I am flying the flag right now.

            I have always thought clouds were interesting, and I like photos of birds in the sky. The photo below is an enlargement of part of the photo above. 

            There are a couple things I should be doing, not sure how much I will get done, but I should at least try to do something today, so, I will stop now, have a safe day!

Senior ole retired person who should do some work, Don the Ford

July 1, 2022

     

            It is now the first day of July, and I have nothing to do. Both of the grandkids are not here today, so the house is kind of deserted. Lonely ole senior people who have nothing to do.

Earlier this morning, that is before the sun was up, I was out front with the dog Tres to acquire the so-called newspaper, when I noticed the sky over in the east was a pink color. Now I knew it was the sun coming up, but I also thought that if there was a large fire over there the sky would have also been pink. My ole phone camera would not pick up the subtle color, so no photo.

After Tres brought the newspaper into the Homestead, we proceeded out back and I watered the flowers in pots, and the black berries. I may again today go out and cut more of this year’s berry vines, those that have finished producing. I would like to pull some weeds if the clouds will stay around for a while, I do not work in the sun, if I can help it.

            Before that one person comments, and we all know who you are, yes, I did go get a breakfast burrito this morning, and I got a cup of coffee. The coffee place said they did not have enough of the pike coffee, would a dark or blond be ok, I did not know if they were talking about coffee, or a female person, to which I said yes.

A coffee place who did not have enough of the coffee I wanted!!!!! 

       I had considered changing my lawn sprinkler from two times a week to three. A good friend pointed out that staying with two times but increasing the amount of run time might be the better solution. I did some research and found that he was correct. I have increased the run time and stayed with two days per week. Thanks for the advice.

            Well, the sun is shining so I may not go outside for a while, hope you have a good day!
