May 23, 2026

We are experiencing a bright and shiny good morning here in Hewitt Tx. This bright and shiny good morning is after a night of Thunder, lightning and rain. We here at the Ford homestead received just a little over 1/2 inch of rain last night and we listened to the Thunder as it went through. Naturally, our dog and cat do not like Thunder, so Tres comes in and gets on the bed, so the whole bottom of the bed is taken up by the dog which meant me and my favorite wife had uncomfortable ways to lay for about 2 1/2 hours until the storms got gone.

Our plan for the day was to have our yard man Alex come and mow our yards but being wet after the rain we will not do that. Since school is out, we assume that we will be able to get him to come over on Monday and do the mowing, that is if it isn't raining.

Different topic: I for some reason this morning was thinking about olden days, and a thought which came to me was about having a pot in a person's house at night when they didn't have an indoor toilet. I am sure that most young people have no idea that the pot was a normal thing in the olden days.

Many years ago, when I was probably about 8 years old maybe 9, we lived on South Benton St. there in Cape Girardeau, our house and most of the other houses were close to the street and then the backyard was big enough that you could have a garden in it. The house next door to us was sitting at the back of the lot and their garden was in front of their house. To make this story a little bit shorter they had running water in the kitchen, but they did not have an indoor toilet. Their outhouse (aka toilet) was behind their house and at night they did have a pot in the bedroom in case anybody had to go (aka urinate or defecate) during the night. I might also note that the bedroom was for mom, dad, a girl my age, a boy a year older than me, and another boy about three years older than me, all in one bedroom. That's enough of the old memory let's go to something else.

Yesterday was a normal day: the weather Was good we did set outside for a while a friend came over and sat with us and we talked about all kinds of things including the Bible. I did have the big fan in the garage blowing air out to us at times when there was no breeze.

My favorite wife was going through some items yesterday when she found a shirt that she wore as a little girl. When I say little, she may have been 6 years old when she wore the shirt.

The shirt has the Bunny on it, and it was an advertisement for Bunny bread, which was a bread company in Missouri back in the 1950s. It is difficult to see but her name is on the shirt below the word Bunny.

Today: I have no big plans since we had rain. I hope I can take a shower in a little while and clean up, we might go into town for lunch but other than that there are no big plans. I do have a photo of a couple of blooming flowers. I know I've been showing you these too often, but I like them so I'm going to post them anyway.

These flowers bloom in the flower beds that are full of weeds. Yes my knee seems to be getting better but I don’t want to try getting on my knees and pulling weeds until I am reasonably sure it will be ok.
