It seems to be a good morning for most of us, but I have already been working.
The story of my early morning work goes like this. The senior ole person was awakened from his sleep by his sometimes friend, Tres. Yes, it was almost 5:30am when I was brought out of my deep sleep by the feeling of a dog rubbing against the side of my bed. Naturally I assumed that this sometime friend wanted to go out back for a short time then he wanted to be feed.
I was able to get my ole senior body to roll out of the bed as I was looking for my house shoes, and I headed to the toilet for a little relief. After a rest period in the rest room, I was able to drag my ole body to the back door where I found it was locked. Now the door lock had not been working for a while and I was too lazy to change it, so we have been using a device that pushed against the door knob and went to the floor to blocked the door from opening. Well, I found the door was locked and the device was against the door knob. I removed the device but I could not unlock the door. I tried again and again but could not unlock the door.
Tres was standing there watching me become frustrated as to why the door was locked. I then decide to attempt to remove the door knob so I went out into the cold garage to get a screwdriver. When I began to attempt to unscrew the two screws, I found that I did not have enough light to see properly, so I then went and procured a flash light. It was very difficult to unscrew the screws and hold the flash light at the same time, and Tres would not help me.
At this point I decided to take Tres out the front door so he could have some relief, aka water the grass. Returning to the work I was able to get one screw out and the other was unscrewed a little, and then it pushed through and the door knob came off in my hand. I was still unable to get the door open so I thought, “I should go outside and see if I can get the door open using the outside knob”. I went through the garage to the outside and around to the back door but I still could not get the door open.
I then returned to the garage and came back into the house where I was able to get the other screw to unscrew. I was then able to remove more parts of the lock and eventually able to get the door open. I finished removing the other parts to the lock, and by the way I have replaced locks in the past so I did know what I was doing, even though I was not enjoying it.
Door knob all removed I headed back out into the garage and the work started again. I had to move two carts away from the cabinets that in years in the past I had installed. I then needed to move a coat rack that I made years ago and a container that was on wheels that had some walking sticks that I had made in times past. The two push brooms had to be moved before I could get to the draws where I believed I had a door knob set.
Well, I did find a door knob set even though it was not for entrance doors (no key), it was an inside door knob set. I was happy with the fact that it installed fairly easy, and now we can again open and shut the door.
At this point I began to clean up and put items back in their places, including the items in the cold garage. All in all, it took about 1 hour to complete this process. Wow, what a way to start the morning.
Yesterday’s events: we had plans to have lunch with our son Dave and his family but we learned that he was not feeling well and had a slight fever, so lunch was postponed. My favorite wife and I went into normal Saturday mode with very little if anything happening that would be interesting to you, oh I did water the plants in the hot house yesterday afternoon, and according to the thermometer it was over 90 degrees inside the hot house when I was watering.
After watering the plants, I did remove sticks from the back yard, I did cut up the big limb that was out back and I did remove a few sticks from the front yard.
Not sure what we will do today; we may go to the cracker store for lunch. We hope you have a good day and that we all stay safe in all we do.
Locksmith the Don.
