Good morning to all, it is somewhat cool this morning (78) even though we are supposed to again have a high temp of 101.

I will attempt to keep this article short as there were few interesting events yesterday. I do want to comment on one thought. When I was a kid, I heard people talk about a “cat bird”. This bird was supposed to sound like a cat. I had never heard it myself until yesterday.

My favorite wife was in the garage going through some fall decorations and I went out to talk with her. As we were talking, I heard what I thought was a cat. I looked around in the garage and there was no cat. I kept hearing it, so I walked out of the garage and looked around, still no cat. The sound stopped but I kept looking, it had sounded like a small cat to me. Then I heard it again and this time it sounded as if it was coming from a tree. I heard the cat sound then another sound coming from the same tree. When I heard it a couple more times I then believed it was coming from a “cat bird”.

Later in the afternoon when my favorite wife and I were sitting outside, I took the so-called smart phone and I asked Google, “is there a cat bird?” and Google said there is, and it described the bird. Wow, AI helping even old people learn new things.

Today, my favorite wife and I plan to go out for breakfast this morning and this afternoon I have a doctor’s appointment to see if I need some rehab on my knee and or ankle.

Ok, have a safe and blessed day and we will keep you in our prayers.

September 15, 2026

Another very warm good morning to you. As I understand it, a normal high temperature for this time of year is 91 degrees and yesterday it was 102.

I was able to get Alex to school this morning on time and safely. The school traffic in Hewitt it is crazy in the mornings, it is like being in Dallas TX at rush hour.

Yesterday we did get the two storm doors installed, yes, I do have photos of both doors. The work seemed to be done well and we're happy with the new doors. Tres is not happy as he can not push the back storm door open and go outside.

Photo one front door photo two back door.

I mowed the front yard even though it was very hot, and I did vacuum up some of the leaves from the back yard.

My favorite wife and I did not do a lot yesterday, heck we did not even sit outside yesterday afternoon. I had bible study last night, so we ate supper earlier than usual as I needed to put everything away before I went to the bible study as it starts early.

Bible study has changed this year; the men have the lecture first and then go to class and the women go to class first then have lecture. Personally, I do not like it this way, but I will try it for a while.

Today’s main event is taking the dog Tres to the vet. Wow always too much for an ole senior person to do.

We hope you all have a blessed and safe day; we will keep you in our prayers.

September 14, 2026

Good morning to all, we are expecting another 100-degree day and if we do they say we will set a record for 100-degree days in September.

What did “the Don” do yesterday? He was allowed to take his favorite wife out for lunch. The food and service were both good. Returning home he was allowed to rest for a while and then head out to the grocery store for a few items.

Returning home and the grocery items placed properly in the cabinets or refrigerator, I again took a short rest before it was suggested, “that I might need to vacuum the floors”.

Floors vacuumed, I then started washing the clothes. The major work in washing is that some items need to be properly placed on hangers and then placed properly in the closet, which I did.

We did go outside to set at about 4:30 and as usual it was hot. I did need to check on the clothes in the dryer a couple times while we were outside. Conversations covered many things and the big one seemed to be when we were kids. How do old people remember things from that meny years ago?

Today we are supposed to get the new storm doors installed so I will need to get our dog to stay in the garage and not attack the installer.

Parts of the front yard need to be mowed, and I am not sure if I will attempt that or not. Bible study begins this evening, and I am not happy with the lecture being first and the group meeting being second.

Well, I will stop and try to do nothing for a while, we pray that you have a blessed and safe day; you are in our prayers.

September 13, 2026

Good morning to all, we hope you have a blessed Sunday.

Yesterday was another old person’s day, you know not doing a lot of interesting things. How interesting is it sitting in the ole worn-out recliner thinking I would like to go outside and do some yard work, but it is too hot, so I get the exercise device and exercise while still sitting in the ole worn-out recliner.

My favorite wife started to work on a wreathe on the front porch, changing the color of the flowers from spring and summer to fall colors. I dragged my ole body out of the house and removed some debris from the front yard and even though that is not difficult work I did get hot and sweaty.

“We”, meaning my favorite wife and I, did go to a friend’s house at the end of the block with a gift. We only stayed a few minutes and then we returned to our home where we cooled down for a while before heading outside with another friend to set in the heat. As usual, the big ole fan provided us a breeze.

One topic that I provided was about a leaf on the street. I noted as I was removing the debris from the front yard there was a single dead leaf that was moving down the street and it made enough noise that it sounded like someone was walking. Yes, there was a small breeze moving the leaf and the neighborhood was as usual very quiet. Other topics were fire trucks, drones, and cars that look alike.

Our friend had parked and gone into a store and when she came out there was a man attempting to get into her vehicle. She asked what he was doing and he apologized as he had gone to the wrong vehicle, his was parked next to hers and the vehicles were identical.

Today our big plans will be to take it easy, stay safe in anything we do. We pray that you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. We will keep you in our prayers.

September 12, 2026

Good morning to all, we did get some rain yesterday, there is 1/8-inch water in the rain gage. My favorite wife and I sat on the front porch as it was raining and we enjoyed the rain. Do I have a photo of the clouds before the rain arrived? Yes.

Yes, that is my finger on the left side of the photo.

Yesterday’s activities included driving into Waco, shopping at a store, eating at the sandwich place, shopping at another store and driving home.

Today is supposed to be another hot day with temps at 102. About one third of the front yard needs to be mowed but I am not sure I will do that; we will see how the day goes. With no big plans my favorite wife and I might go for a ride out in the country.

I get a notice on the computer each day showing what mail (post office mail) we will be getting. Today I will get a bill that I will need to pay and a Jury notice. I thought they let old people off Jury duty.

I will also put the photo of the painting that I could not post on the 10th. The neighbor’s granddaughter does pretty artwork.

Ok, I am stopping for now, we hope you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do.

September 11, 2026

We hope you have a good morning even though it is the 25th anniversary of 911. There will be a lot of information about 911 on the news today so I will keep my thoughts to myself.

My favorite wife and I along with friends went to supper at the Cracker store last night. It is always nice to have supper with friends who have lived on our block longer than we have. As usual we did set outside after returning from supper yesterday.

Major projects form yesterday; watered the flowers in pots and the berry beds. They predicted rain last night, if we got any I am unaware if it.

Today we might go to a store as my favorite wife might want to look at clothes.

We pray that we all have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. You are in our prayers.

September 10, 2026

                Good morning and good day.

Today is the day before the 25 anniversary of the 911 attack on America. I was in New York state the day of the attack, I was not in New York City.

Let’s see if I did anything yesterday. I did go to a couple places to get quotes on car and home insurance. It is interesting how the quotes on the home are basically the same but on the car they vary. I will need to decide what to do in the next couple days.

My favorite wife and I took a quick trip into Waco yesterday to a grocery store where we purchased a couple items. One item was a bottle of Pineapple wine which we gave to a friend. We had told her about the fact that it tasted good and we wanted her to try it, she liked it.

We sat outside yesterday afternoon, and we discussed the fact that we talk to each other more when we set outside than we do if we are inside the house. There are just too many distractions inside the house, and the TV is always on. Back in the olden days before everyone had TVs people often kept the radio on all day. I guess having the TV or radio on helps us feel like we are not alone.

Our neighbor’s granddaughter brough us a painting as we sat outside. She is probably 12 years old, and she has given us other paintings in the past.

We are happy to have these good neighbor grandkids.

Our big plan for today is to go to supper with friends. We plan to go to a different restaurant for supper and that is unusual. We have gone to the same restaurant for supper on Thursday evening for probably a year or two, and today we break the norm, and go to a different restaurant.

We hope you have a safe and blessed day; we will keep you in our prayers.

September 9, 2026

The sun is up, it is another good morning, and we hope it turns out to be a good day. Good day defined, “a day that isn’t too hot (aka less than 100) and that has an appropriate amount of rain.” We are praying for that day.

Yesterday was a normal do very little day. I paid a couple bills and did some housework; we sat outside later yesterday afternoon. I did review the cost of auto and home insurance.

Today I will likely check and see if I can get the same coverage for less money. Other than that, there are no big plans.

We hope you have a safe and blessed day, and we will keep you in our prayers.

September 8, 2026

Good morning to friends, family and others

The morning is starting out good, I did get Alex to school on time, and I am back here at the computer entering data.

Yesterday being a holiday, was a day of rest and relaxation, although all days for ole senior people are basically that. My favorite wife and I left the homestead for a while, we decided to go to the chicken place and get some iced tea. Tea is normally $1.50 per glass but after 2:00pm it is only $1.00 per glass. We waited until 2:00 to go get the tea.

We then decided to drive around a while out in the country and this time we went east of I-35. We were on roads that I have not seen in years, and some roads I had never been on. The interesting thing about the drive was and area where the grass in the fields was green. Yes, there was an area where it evidently had rained, and the farmland was green. And trust me, the green stood out to us.

Back at home we set outside for a while and I decided to get the leaf blower and blow some of the leaves into a pile in the back yard. Obviously, I have a photo for my enjoyment. As you should see in the photo, our dog Tres decided to lie in the pile of leaves.

Our trees are still green, but the pecan tree is dropping these leaves and they make the yard look like Fall is here. The photo below is of a cloud, if you look close at the bottom of the cloud it almost looks like a bomb that has gone off.

                Today’s big plan, who knows.

We pray that you will have a blessed day filled with much kindness and please stay safe in all you do. You are in our prayers.

September 7, 2026

                Good morning.

Yesterday started out as a normal morning here at the homestead with homemade coffee. I pretended to watch the so-called news and as usual I would turn the sound off when the commercials come on. We pay for the TV service so why do we need to see the commercials.

As usual I did have a rest period about 8:30 and then I did my bible reading.

Later in the morning we headed to the Cracker store for lunch. While on our way we received a text from Patrick wanting to know where we were, so we texted him back saying we were driving to the Cracker store. We thought the text was odd and we were wondering if Patrick and Karla had come to our house after we had left.

We left the house about 15 minutes later than usual and there were no handicapped parking spaces at the cracker store. We found an open space and we parked there. Before we got out of the car, I saw a man standing at the door of the cracker store and it looked like Patrick. This man walked over to our car, and it was Patrick, they had decided to surprise us and have lunch with us. Food and service were good.

After lunch / breakfast (some eat lunch, some eat breakfast) we came home and looked the new truck over. It is really nice.     We visited for a while and then they went over to Karla’s brother’s home.

Shortly after they left we went into town to get a battery for my favorite wife. She had a clock that needed an odd battery. On the drive home it began to rain. It rain almost a hole minute and I even needed to turn the windshield wipers on. Wow!

After the shopping adventure I again rested before my favorite wife, and I went to the back yard where we washed the pot hound Tres.  I think he liked it.

I was then allowed to wash the clothes. I did venture outside to set and enjoy the hot afternoon, and I occasionally checked on the washing machine and dryer. Donna was in the house working on a watch and clock, she did not sit outside with me yesterday.

As I sat outside, I got a call from an old friend back in Missouri. Bruce was just checking in as he had heard that I had gone to the emergency room a few nights ago. He wanted to know if I was ok and I am. It is good to hear from an ole friend.

Yes, we had supper and then sat around until time for bed.

Today the cleaning lady was supposed to come over but she isn’t feeling well and will come later in the week. I did venture out this morning and went to the Star coffee place where I purchased a cup of real coffee.  As for today, I assume we will do nothing all day as it is a holiday.

Have a safe and Blessed day and be nice to at least one person. We keep you in our prayers.

September 6, 2026

                Good morning.

Yesterday; my day started as it should, at 5:15am. My dog Tres was nice enough to let me sleep to my normal get-up time. I start the day off with a cup of homemade coffee and some so-called news. I had thought about working on the berry bed, but when I looked out back I saw the sun shining on the bed so that ended that.

I did attempt to put together a short article for this blog and as I was finishing the data entry I noticed on the security camera that the number three berry bed was now in the shade, so I decided to attempt to remove dead vines and weeds. This took longer than I thought and I did a fairly good job in the removal of the unwanted. The bed looks empty now.

Work completed, I put the tools away, and I cooled down and took a shower.

It was decided that we would go out for lunch at a restaurant that we have only been to one time. The food and service were great. Back home my belly full I leaned back and rested      while my wife was doing some rearranging. This morning I had trouble finding a can opener due to yesterday’s rearranging.

Later than usual yesterday afternoon we went outside to enjoy the hot afternoon, and it was hot. It was predicted that we could get some rain and there was rain in the area but not at our house. We did see a rainbow from the rain that others received.

When I took the photo of the rainbow, I noticed the clouds over our house lit up by the evening sun set.

Today’s activities; probably lunch at the cracker store and then…

I guess I should stop for now, we hope you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. We are keeping you in our prayers.

September 5, 2026

Good morning to everyone, and we hope you have a blessed day.

It is Saturday and we have no big plans for the day. I mowed the front yard a couple days ago and the back yard doesn’t need to be mowed, so we will not have Alex over to work today. I had thought about trimming some of the black berry bed, but the sun is shining on it now so that work is out.

Speaking of the sun, we have had a couple days with temperatures less than 100 but that said, we will be back in the 100s today.

My favorite wife and I went into Waco yesterday and we headed for a store she likes at about 10:15. To get into the store she likes, we go through other stores doors to get in, but they were not open. Many of the stores at that mall do not open until 11:00. So I decided to go to the small food store and see if we could get a couple items. I like their frozen pizzas, and we also got a couple of other items. That done, I headed back to the store that Donna likes. Yes, I am allowed to use my favorite wife’s name.

This time we were able to get in and she did some shopping. Back at home I did my reading from the bible and Donna went through a closet straightening up and getting rid of some items.

A little after 4:00pm, a friend came over and we eventually went outside and sat. One big discussion was about things in the bible. I find it interesting how we can read the same words and possibly view them differently. I do enjoy a good biblical discussion.

Outside, when we finished sitting, we reentered the homestead and I prepared a pizza for our supper. I must say the pizza was good or I was very hungry as I ate a lot.

Well, I am stopping for now, we hope you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. We will keep you in our prayers.

September 4, 2026

Hello and good morning to you and no one else!

Although I did not see it there was a very small shower in the area this morning. I checked the rain gage and there was no water in it, there was however a wet spot on the driveway at the end of the car port, indicating a very light sprinkle.

I was able to take Alex to school this morning, and I do plan to go to the store for a couple of items, one of which is an air filter for the air conditioner. Other than that, no big plans for the day.

Yesterday in review; I did get the front yard mowed, and it was cloudy which made the work a little less stressful. My favorite wife and I went to the restaurant for supper and both the food and service was very good. We both had meals that not only provided a good supper but there is enough leftovers so that we could have lunch today. Wow, two ole senior persons have enough left over food for lunch and they will not starve…

When we arrived home from supper yesterday, we sat outside on the driveway for a few minutes. I have a photo of where we normally sit on the driveway, and the Tres who supervises our outdoor adventures along with a lawn mower which is for sale. We will accept all bids for $200 or more, or best offer.

As we sat there it started to sprinkle so we assumed that it might rain and we moved to the front porch. As soon as we moved the sprinkles stopped but there was a nice breeze for 96.2% of the time. As usual the neighborhood was very quiet.

Well, I need to get started and do something other than enter data. We hope you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. We keep you in our prayers.

September 3, 2026

We are having a cloudy good morning here in Hewitt this morning, and we have a chance of some rain this afternoon.

Yesterday in review: all the normal activities like resting, reading the bible, and reading the Charlie Kirk book. I did attempt to repair a water pot that is used to provide water for Tres and the squirrels. That was unsuccessful so my favorite wife and I went into town yesterday afternoon where I purchased a plastic oil pan Which I plan to use for the dog's water.

Back at home we sat outside on the front porch, there was a good breeze, so we didn't need the fan, the neighborhood was quiet as usual.

Once we were back in the house, I prepared supper for us, and we kicked back and didn't do much for the rest of the evening until time for bed. I went to bed at about 9:30, I woke up about 10:20 and my leg was bothering me, so I got out of bed and since it kept bothering me it started worrying me. Being an old person and knowing that strokes happen I called our son Dave and we went to the emergency room. We spent about 4 hours there and the diagnosis was Left Leg Paresthesia. (an odd feeling or tingling in the leg that could be caused by a sciatic nerve) That kind of messed up last night’s sleeping.

Today I do not have any big plans, I might mow the front yard since it is cloudy, and we could get some rain this afternoon.

I guess I should stop for now, we hope you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do.

                Good morning to all.

Not a lot going on here today; I am a little under the weather, so I am not attempting to produce much of an article.

We hope to get some rain but that isn’t looking too good for us yet, but the daily temp is supposed to be less than 100 and that is good.

We hope you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. You are in our prayers.

September 1, 2026

Good morning to all and our day is starting out well.

We got through yesterday without too many problems, the doctor visit was ok, they gave me shots at the bottom of three of my fingers to help with the trigger finger. Two seem to be improving already and one is taking its time. I did get to enjoy some bible reading yesterday but I did not read from the Charlie Kirk book.

My favorite wife and I went into Waco yesterday afternoon about 3:30 and the traffic was heavy. I have spoken of this traffic in the past and it occurred again yesterday. As we approached a traffic light I pointed out to my favorite wife. “That the number of vehicles in front of us will probably take four light changes before we get through”. In the past at this same traffic light and about the same time in the afternoon I was in line and the light did change 4 times before I got through. It happened again yesterday.

We stopped at the chicken salad store and purchased some meals to go for our suppers. Back at home we sat outside enjoying the afternoon.

After supper I was allowed to go out back and provide some water for the three black berry beds. There is a lot of weeds and dead vines that still need to be removed. With the possibility of some cooler weather and some possible rain I might be able to get my ole tired body outside and work on the beds.

Today, I took Alex to school, and I am working on this article. I do plan to go to the store for a few grocery items this morning and do my bible reading. Who knows what else an ole senior person might do.

I will stop. We hope you have a blessed day and please stay safe in all you do. You are in our prayers.

August 31, 2026

Good morning to you all, I have already taken Alex to school, and I have been to the doctor’s office. I received three shots at the base of three of my fingers for trigger finger. My appointment was scheduled for 8:35 and I arrived early due to the short drive after dropping Alex off at school at 7:30. I was finished and out of the building before 8:35. My fingers are somewhat numb, and the shots hurt a little but not too much.

No plans for today, part of the front yard needs to be mowed but not all of it.

Sunday was a lazy day for me other than the housework I was required I mean allowed to do. I vacuumed the floors and washed two loads of clothes. I was allowed to cook supper, also known as putting items in the microwave.

Well, I need to rest from all this creative writing, I will stop and take a break. We pray that you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. You are in our prayers.

August 30, 2026

It appears we are starting another good morning here and there.

Unusual event. This happened the other evening, I had gone outside with some items to put in the trash can and that completed, I walked over to the gate where I looked up at the sky while I prayed. The sky was a dull blue in color and the sun was down. Toward the end of my prayer, I saw one star appear in the dull blue sky. Yep, I consider that an unusual event.

Saturday was a good day; we went into Waco for lunch and we decided to go to a restaurant that we had not been to for several years. When we had completed lunch we both indicated that we should have gone somewhere else for lunch.

Lunch over we returned to the homestead where we rested. My favorite wife decided to make a cherry cheese cake. At the end of the process, she then began going through the knives and other items in the drawers separating and placing then in a manner where they are easy to get to.

We went outside later than usual but it was still hot. With a cool drink in hand and the big ole fan blowing we enjoyed the quiet neighborhood. The neighborhood is usually quiet, and it seems a little odd when we think it is quieter than usual, and that is what we thought yesterday.

One of the tasks while sitting outside in the afternoon is watching the drones. When we see a drone come over, and if it is going slow, that means that it is going to be making a delivery. Deliveries within a block of our sight we often observe as much as possible. The drone flys to the location for its delivery, it stops, then it goes down and we start guessing whose house is getting the package. At about ten feet above the ground the drone drops the package, then it goes back up. We have noticed it goes up a little higher for its return flight than when it came for the delivery.

At one point my favorite wife suggested that we should walk down the street, so we ventured forth. As we walked a neighbor lady came out and walked with us. We made it to the cul-de-sac and started back up the street when another neighbor came out and brought us some cake to take home with us as it was his wife’s birthday. Back at home the next-door neighbor came out with her grand kids, and we had some fun discussions. The one grandson who is 8 years old wanted to mow our front yard.

All that excitement over, my favorite wife and friend sat outside while I went inside to prepare supper. The microwave worked as expected and supper was ready. The neighbor lady left and we went inside to eat. When the meal was eaten, we did have the birthday cake, and it was good.

As to today’s events, we will likely go to the cracker store for lunch and then who knows, maybe another rest period.

I know you want me to stop so I will stop, so you can get started. We hope you have a blessed day, and we all stay safe in all we do. You are in our prayers.

August 29, 2026

Good morning to you and if it is afternoon when you look at this, good afternoon to you.

Yesterday was a normal day, I did go to the store for a couple grocery items and when I returned home my favorite wife and I went into Waco where we had a quick lunch and then went to a different store for some other grocery items.

Back at home we did rest for a while then my favorite wife chopped some Lettuce and tomatoes and also prepared some Broccoli into a Broccoli salad. Items ready for supper.

A friend dropped by and we all sat outside in the heat with cold drinks in hand. Our conversations went from bible comments to the olden days when we were kids. One of the kid thoughts was when we got our first TV. I was 7 years old when Mom and Dad purchased their first TV. It was a big TV with rabbit ears on it and the local TV station started a couple days after we got the TV.

Prior to the TV my brother Jack and I would listen to the radio in the evenings, one of the radio programs was called Sargent Preston of the Yukon, and he had a dog whose name I believe was Yukon King.

Olden day discussions are always interesting to us ole people.

This morning started out with me getting to sleep a little longer. I did let the dog Tres out at a little before 4:00am and I did get back into bed and was allowed to stay there until a little after 5:00am.

When I let the cat go outside, I noticed that the outside temp was actually a cool 74 degrees. Heck, we might have a good day with less heat.

I had a cup of homemade coffee, and I attempted to watch the morning news.

I had noticed that there was a small limb down in the back yard, so I decided to cut it into small pieces and put them in the trash container.

The limb finished I went to the number 3 berry bush and started removing some more of the dead vines and weeds. I got to work on the berry bed for about 30 minutes before the sun started shining on me and then I stopped working. I am now back in the house and entering data for this article.

I have big plans for today, the first is to take a shower and then rest as I attempt to find something else to do.

I will stop for now, we hope you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. You are in our prayers.

August 28, 2026

Good morning to you and that other person too.

Yesterday’s events: As usual I took Alex to school, and when I returned to the homestead, I took a nap.

Allow me to comment on the reason for the nap. My dog woke me up at 3:30am as he needed to go outside. I was back in bed by 3:45 and at 4:30 he woke me up again. I took him to the back door, and he went out but did not leave the porch as it was thundering off in the distance. He came back in and we both sat in the TV room with the cat Molly as neither of them liked the thunder.

Later in the morning my favorite wife and I decided to go out for breakfast, we both had ham and cheese omelets and they were very good, along with good service. Back at home I did some reading in the bible and after a short rest period I read some from the Charlie Kirk book. Other than reading most of the day I sat around doing very little as I did not want to go out in the heat and work.

We did go out for our usual Thursday evening supper, also known as date night, and we had supper with Larry and Janice. Now this was not as usual, we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated even though there were tables available. We are not sure why there were so many people there at that time of the day, as we go early to avoid the crowds.

I should inform you of the amount of water in the rain gage from yesterday morning’s rain, it was a little less than ¼ inch. Any amount of rain is better than none.

Today if it is cloudy this morning, I might go out to the black berry bed and attempt to remove the dead vines along with some weeds. I do not intentionally work in the sun. I also want to get Alex to school safely and on time and I should attempt to go to the grocery store for a couple of items. As you can see, ole people have things to do, but will they do them.

It is time to stop this data entry and consider a cup of coffee. We pray that you have a blessed day and that we all stay safe in all we do. We are keeping you in our prayers.
