May 30, 2024

It is a good start to this day so I will say good morning to all of you. We do have the probability of having storms today and even worst storms tonight. It would be nice if these storms were to be minimal in size and threats, allowing everyone who is in the track of these storms to stay safe.

I have a skin doctors' appointment to day, so I hope that goes well, she is a good doctor and I get to see her about every 6 months.

Other than that, I might mow the front yard this morning getting ahead of the possible two plus inches of rain that might be coming. Alex is going for his football and boy scout physical this morning, so I will need to do the mowing, not our yard man. I will also need to move those flowers on my favorite wife's, back into the garage before the storms hit.

We did get half of the ditch trimmed yesterday, Alex did a good job of that and I cut down a tree that was growing into and through the chain link fence. It was bushy and about 6 feet tall and it is now about 5 inches tall. There is another plant in the way so I could not get it all the way down to the ground. I did get to harvest the black berries and they are still producing about 2 quarts per day.

I have the new battery back up on my desk, and I might get the chance to connect the security cameras and a TV to it today. Heck with the possibility of bad weather today and tonight it might be activated.

Well as one can see, I need to get going before the bad weather gets here. We hope your day is restful, or if you work, we hope you are productive (work is anything you might do other then rest). Please stay safe and please stay aware of the weather.

Good morning to all, we hope you have a good day. The storms and rain missed us yesterday and last night, and we still have a slight chance for rain today.

I did get the back 40 mowed and trimmed yesterday, and all I did was pick up the debris from the back 40. The wind had been so strong the other day that we had all kinds of small branches down on the ground in both the front and back of the homestead. Our yard man Alex did the work in the back 40 and I picked up the sticks. The debris from both front and back filled ¾ of the trash container. The neighbor lady has another large tree limb down in her yard.

Alex is here again today and we plan to clear the weeds from the ditch behind the house.

We will get Gabi at about lunch time and bring her to the Ford’s homestead, as my favorite wife has made homemade Chicken noodle soup.

I did get another bunch of black berries today and I am still surprised at the one new growth that still has green berries on it. It is starting to produce about a month after the other plants produced.

Well, we need to get started at the ditch so I will wish each of you a good day and we hope you stay safe in all you do.

May 28, 2024

Good morning to you all, this morning is starting out good but might change in a short while. The weather people are predicting the storms up near Dallas might come down here, and they are also saying we will likely get severe storms this evening after 8:00pm. Wow, just what we do not need.

Yesterday, also known as Monday, and known as a holiday, was mostly a rest filled day for us. We did drive to the Wally store and purchase one item, I did harvest the black berries, I did go through the cabinets here in the Fords ole office wanting to see what I had not seen for years. I got my amateur radio walkie talkies out and charged them. I guess I should note my amateur license expired last July, and I was unaware of that. They use to send a message alerting you to the need to renew but I did not get one last July.

I found our first digital camera, still seemingly in good shape. I remember we were on vacation in Colorado on a train going to Silverton and I took a couple photos and everyone was surprised that I could take photos without film, and then look at the digital photos. I was the cool guy on the train.

I also found my first GPS device. This unit was battery powered so it was portable and I used it when riding on the motorcycle. Now you would down load the info to the unit of the area you would be riding in and it would show you where you were and where to go. If you went outside the area that you had loaded on the unit it would stop working, and yes if memory serves me, you needed a computer to down load to the unit.

I also found a ZUNE, and I know you don’t know what a Zune is, so I will attempt to enlighten. It was made by Microsoft, you could put photos, videos and music on it, and it has ear phones so you can listen to the music.

I found many other things but I did not find the windup weather radio that I was looking for. My favorite wife and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon, it was hot but the humidity seemed to be a little lower than it has been.

I guess I will stop for now, our favorite grandson is here, he is almost as tall as me, so I will see if he wants to do some weed trimming at the ditch this morning. We hope you have a good day, please stay safe in all you do, and be nice to at least one person today.

May 27, 2024

It is Memorial Day, take a minute to think about those who lost their lives in wars.

We wish you a good morning and we hope you have a good safe day.

I have a couple photos to post, one is showing the beginnings of pecans on the Ford’s pecan tree, while the other is showing the sun trying to get through the clouds.

You are correct, I am a good photographer who needs a phone with a better camera.

Sunday started out a little odd, we had decided to go to the cracker store and have breakfast / lunch, but when we arrived there was too many people waiting outside so we new the inside was full. We did not stop there, so we went to the Bush chicken place and got chicken to take home with us for lunch.

At some point I decided to work on my fan project, I do have the test version completed and I hope to improve the process on the next version. After all the grueling fan work, it was decided that we would wash the dog and after that washing I would harvest more black berries. The dog got washed and I got stuck many times. I go to the skin doctor this week and she will likely want to know why my hand and arms look like they do.

I have often noted that the black berry bushes try to grab you when you are picking the berries, that statement was true yesterday. The wind was blowing and the parts of the bushes that hang out of the bed were moving back and forth, ouch!

I should note that I decided to mow the front yard after washing the dog, and it looks good, even if I say so myself.

All the work completed we did sit outside and the neighbors from across the street came over and sat with us. Heck it was almost 8:00 when we went back into the house.

All in all, we had a good day and even had friends to chat with. Yes, there are still a few people who consider us ole senior people as friends.

I will stop for now, have a good day, and please be safe in all you do.

May 26, 2024

We have made it to Sunday again and there are storms and rain in the area. Even though there is a chance of bad weather, we want to wish you a good morning.

To start off with I have a photo which was taken yesterday afternoon when my favorite wife and I was sitting outside in the extreme heat. Extreme heat in this setting means, 96 degrees with very little breeze. So, we had the big fan running to provide a little comfort.

As we sat outside yesterday, I was allowed to water the flowers in the pots in both front and back yards. It wasn’t too stressful for this ole senior person.

I wish I had something to present to you that I haven’t already presented, but I don’t. Wait a minute, I have one silly thing to present and that is I plan to make a couple hand fans. Now a hand fan can look like anything one wants, and I have a photo of one I made several years ago.

Now some one might ask why you would make a fan. I would answer, “cause I want to make a fan”! Actually, it can be fun deciding what one will put on the fan, and as you can see, that one has an alien on it, the ones I hope to make will have me on them. If I am able to make the fans, I will obviously post a photo, for my enjoyment, and I know you will want one. I did go to the store yesterday to get the poster material which I use for the fan. I use wooden paint stir paddles for the handle.

In the olden days when I was, “a children”, the church we went to, more than 70 years ago, did not have air conditioning, and everyone had hand fans, with religious pictures on them, to help stay cool while listening to the minister, we called them preachers in the olden days. I guess that is where I developed the need for a hand fan.

I have no plans for this Sunday, and my favorite wife has not yet informed me as to what I might do. I do need to replace the air filter in the air conditioner, that could take up to a hole minute of my day.

I can hear thunder in the area but as of yet we have not seen the rain or storms. Maybe we will be lucky again today and stay safe and dry.

Well, I guess that is it for now, we hope you have a good and safe day, please be nice to all the ole people, we need it.

May 25, 2024

I would like to wish everyone a good morning, and say we did not get the storms yesterday that they had predicted. Now I did little or nothing yesterday, and as usual, I will tell you all about nothing.

Allow me to start off with, “we keep all of you in our prayers”!

If anyone has been reading the silly posting of mine, they would know that we have had power outages at the ford homestead twice this week, one occurred during a storm and it was dark at that time, the last one during day light hours lasting 4.5 hours. Having no way to get the weather reports I decided to find a way to be able to watch a TV during the black out. I thought about a battery backup system that could keep the security cameras going and the TV on my desk. I have been shopping for a battery backup but have not decided on a particular system.

On the same subject, “black out”, I being a silly grandpa came up with another idea. Now I did find a way to power up the 24-inch TV on my ole desk without making an additional purchase, which is good for us as we have no additional funding. Heck, I thought someone would ask, “what did the Don find to power up the 24-inch TV.” I guess no one is reading this posting, darn it, that hurts.

Even though you did not ask I am going to tell you anyway, “I use the HALO! The Halo is a battery jumper device to jumpstart vehicles, and it does other things such as, it is a light, you can charge cell phones and other devices that use the USB connector, and it has a 120-volt outlet that you can plug items like a light, a fan or a small TV into. (I did not try it on the large TV.)

Now, if the power goes out, I can get a Halo from either of our vehicles, yes, we have one in each vehicle, and power up the TV to see the weather reports. I did power up the 24-inch TV on my desk for a little more than an hour and used half of the power from the Halo.

What did the Don do other than that yesterday: I did go out to the black berry beds and harvested black berries to the tune of 3 full quarts. I did get the kids home from school safely, on their last half day. I did allow Tres to take me for a walk. We did sit outside with a couple neighbors yesterday, we had the large fan blowing air as it was extremally hot and humid. I don’t remember anything else that I did that might be interesting.

Today: right now, I assume we may be on a normal Saturday schedule.

Well, I guess I will stop entering data for now and wish you all a good day and as always please be safe I all you do.

May 24, 2024

This posting is for you only, and it is not for those other people, I suggest that the other people should stop reading now and allow me to communicate with you only, alone.

Now the reason I ask for them all to leave is, I know they don’t like it when I talk about the things I do during the day, and I know you do like to read about my activities. Our schedule was kind of normal yesterday with picking up the grand kids from school, but other than that it was not normal. The power went off at the Ford’s homestead about 11:30am and stayed off until a little after 4:00pm. I had decided as I drove home from dropping Alex off, that I would start the generator as soon as I got home and power up the two refrigerators and deep freeze.

Arriving at home my wife was still sitting in the garage as it was more comfortable than being in a dark and hot house. I got out of the truck and walked over to where she was sitting and I saw the light in the garage was on. I asked, how long has the power been on? She looked at the light and said it must have just come on, it wasn’t on a couple minutes ago when I looked at the light.

We decided to go out for supper and allow the house to cool off while we were gone. We went to the George restaurant and enjoyed a nice meal and about the time we were getting ready to leave our phone went off telling us to take cover that we were under a tornado warning. Wow, we had storms and heavy rain during the day and now a tornado warning. We left the restaurant and it was starting to rain. Looking at the sky we did not see any thing other than light clouds, so we drove home. The warning sirens in Hewitt were going off as we drove. Back at home safe, we watched the weather man pointing out where the tornado was. It was too the south of us, I thanked God this one missed us.

After all we had gone through yesterday, the rain and storms, we are looking for more storms and rain this afternoon. By the way, we have 4.5 inches of water in the Ford’s ole free rain gage.

I need to empty the rain gage because it will probably be over filled when we get the storms this afternoon.

I also need to harvest the black berries this morning, I did not harvest any yesterday do to all the rain and storms.

I am glad that you and I had this time together with out all those other people, I hope you have a good day and as always be safe in all you do.

May 23, 2024

We made it through the storm filled evening and we wish you a Good Morning. The predicted storms came a little after my favorite wife and I had come into the homestead from our evening rest and review time in the very hot and humid weather. As we sat out there, we thought we could hear some thunder off in the distance, but the big fan was running, and it made a lot of noise.

Back in the house we had a nice supper before the storms hit. As the wind picked up and the rain started to fall, we were watching the local news as they were showing the weather man, and he was showing all the storms and warnings. At some point the power went off on both sides of the street. We got the flashlights out and sat around listening to the wind and heavy rain.

After some time without power, I decided to get the gas from the shed and prepare the generator to power up the refrigerator and deep freeze. It is not an easy task to get to the generator as I have a protective shelf built to cover it and we store a lot of junk; I mean stuff on the shelf. The garage door had to be manually opened since the power was off and after some effort and adding gas, I was able to get the generator ready to start. That was when the power came back on, I should have waited a little longer. I did not put things away and I will need to do that today. We have more storms predicted for today. I did review the free rain gage last evening and it had 3.25 inches of water in it.

Story from the past: in the olden days my favorite wife and I lived in a mobile home we had purchased in Scott City, MO. Now our son Patrick was a baby, so we are talking about 50 years ago when this story developed.

It was evening, there was storms predicted which turned into a tornado. The storm was so severe with wind and rain that we could not get out of the trailer and to the car to drive to safety. We were standing at the door with Patrick wrapped in a blanket in Donna’s arms, and I said, “if the rain and wind lets down, we need to get to the car”. We waited at the door and then the wind let down and we could hear the sound of the tornado. They say it sounds like a train, it does but much louder than any train I had ever herd. We quickly got into the car and headed out to Donna’s Mom’s house, and the wind picked up again.

This tornado came within two blocks of our Mobil home, it killed a few people, it turned over a train car, and caused a lot of damage, it was bad.

Happier topic: I have a couple photos that my favorite wife suggested I take, and yes, they are of flowers blooming.

Well, I guess I will stop entering data and start putting things back from last night. We hope you have a good day and please stay safe in all you do.

May 22, 2024

I want to wish you a Good Morning before the bad weather arrives. Yep, they are predicting storms with hail and floods this afternoon and into the night.

Today I will need to be on an odd schedule when picking up the kids from school. Gabi gets out at 12:35 but Alex doesn’t get out until 3:55. As you can see, I will need to make two trips to retrieve the grandkids. I have no idea what time Dave will get off work, there is a holiday coming up and the stores usually stock up ahead of time.

Let’s see if I did anything yesterday; nope I did almost nothing in preparation for the coming rain and storms, although I did mow the front yard early morning as I was attempting to beat the heat. I was sweating profusely at the end of the mowing and trimming, but the yard does look good.

About 1:00pm yesterday I decided I wanted to go outside to the front porch and do some reading. It did not take long for me and the Tres to decide sitting outside in the heat and humidity without a breeze was not a good idea.

I did pick the black berries yesterday and I got a bunch, I am sure there was a couple quarts, and there was a bunch that were mostly black that I need to harvest today. after that harvesting process, I did little or nothing until I went to pick up Dave and the kids.

I was able to get the kids home safely and returning to the Ford’s homestead my favorite wife and I did sit outside for a while. Yes, it was hot and yes, I did have the fan blowing air on us.

Did I have shrimp for supper yesterday, yep, I did. Well, I guess I will attempt to stop for now, we hope your day is fun and safe. Try to be nice to that one person today we both know that one person could use some love and kindness.

May 21, 2024

It is a little cloudy this morning and I assume the sun is shining behind the clouds. Even though we can't see the sun, we will still wish you a Happy Tuesday, along with a Good Morning. Since you have not asked, I am not going to tell you I plan on mowing the front yard this morning, as soon as I get done composing this blog posting (aka my journal).

My favorite wife and I sat outside again yesterday afternoon in the extreme heat and humidity, and as we sat there wishing for a nice lite breeze, I noticed that the front yard needs to be mowed, darn it.

Now I did mow the back 40 yesterday with the ole riding mower, and I will say, I did not need to add air to the new tires. After mowing I use the battery powered string trimmer to remove the left-over grass that I could not get close to with the riding mower. all that work completed I rested for a few minutes then I sprayed week killer along the back fence. I hope to get the weeds cut down soon and spray the entire area with weed killer. As I was spraying, I saw a pretty weed and I got a photo.

All that work completed I was able to sit out front for a while resting my ole body and later, I entered the Ford's homestead where I sat on the Fords ole worn out recliner for a while and I might have even taken a nap.

I do plan to get the kids from school today, the high school is testing this week and they will be taking test the first half of the day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and then get out of school the second half of the day.

Well, I need to get mowing. We hope you have a good day and please be safe in all you do.

May 20, 2024

It seems like another good morning here at the Ford Homestead, so we wish you a Good Morning! I will attempt to keep this posting short as we did very little yesterday.

We did not go out for lunch, yep, we had food cooked at home. I did pick the black berries and we got a good amount again; I did identify most of the berry plants that are new this year, some of which are taller them me. I do have a photo which I will attempt to post, and it is of a surprise new plant which has blooms on it. I am picking berries daily and I have a new plant with blooms, that seems odd to me.

Later in the afternoon my favorite wife suggested I move the bags of potting soil which were by the flowerpots at the car port, so she could rearrange the flowerpots at the car port. I did move the bags and they were heavy.

We were sitting outside attempting to enjoy the excessive heat and humidity, when my favorite wife noted the flowers in the pots need to be watered. The sun was still shining on those near the car port and in the back 40, but the front yard was in shade, so I got out of my chair and watered the pots in the front yard.

Finally, I was able to get back in my chair and procure an adult beverage. It takes about 30 minutes for me to sip through my adult beverage, if you take your time drinking you can enjoy it more, then I noticed that the sun had moved away from the potted plants, so I went out back and started watering all the flower potted plants. This took a while.

When I was watering, my favorite wife did move the flowerpots near the car port into different positions.

Returning to my chair I noticed that I had completed my drink, so I was allowed to get another. 30 minutes later we headed into the house where I had left-overs from lunch for supper and they were still very good. That was yesterday.

Today: I hope to be able to get the back 40 mowed early this morning attempting to be the heat, and yes, I will need to do it myself.

This is the last week of school for the grand kids, and they will have an odd schedule as some days Gabi will have half a day, but Alex will have a full day.

That is it for now, we hope you have a good day and please be safe in all you do.

May 19, 2024

We are starting another day, and we say good morning to you and even to that other person, you know who I mean. We hope your day is starting off very nice. We did not have rain yesterday and I don’t think we are supposed to have rain today.

Let’s see what the Don was allowed to do yesterday. My favorite wife allowed me to take her into Waco for a lunch sandwich. After the lunch we went to the Harbor store where I bought some wire ties and received a couple free small flashlights. We did not stop at the cheap store yesterday, we just headed for home.

After returning home I sat around and even took a nap for a while, eventually I decided to get up and do something. I went to the front porch and repositioned the new camera by moving it about 18 inches. I viewed the monitor after dark and the night light from the camera was much better. Then I went into the garage to see if I could repair the drawer that I had built possibly 15 years ago which seemed to be broken. The drawer is a part of my work bench. Once opened, the drawer would not go back into the shut position. A drawer that old might need some loving care from its maker, “the Don”! Photo of the drawer to follow, yes, I took a photo.

The drawer is large, and I had a lot of stuff in it which was heavy. Yes, I made the chair that the drawer is sitting on. Once I had emptied the drawer and removed the drawer from the work bench, I found that it was not broken. Under the drawer I keep a toolbox that I had made many years ago which has a saw, several large and small hammers and mallets in it. One of the hammers somehow was standing up and the end of the handle was against the bottom of the ole drawer, which stop the drawer from being closed. So, I did not need to repair the drawer, but I did clean it out.

That done and after I cooled off, (it was hot outside) I suggested that we go to the Wally store and get a dog lead for our pot hound Tres along with some weed killer. My favorite wife was willing to join me in this venture, were we procured both items and then safely returned home.

Back at home we both went outside and rested from all the stressful shopping and driving.  A little while later, a neighbor lady, who has lived on the block almost as long as we have, stopped by for a visit. It is always nice to have a friend stop by and talk.

What plans do I have for today, none, so we will see what happens. We hope your day is full of goodness and as always, please stay safe in all you do.

May 18, 2024

It is a bright and cheerful Good Morning to you! We hope the day is one of the best days you have ever had.

I did nothing yesterday, and still yet I got tired. Ole people can get tired just sitting there and trying to think. Oh, I did get my hair cut and now “I look good”, or maybe I look like and ole person with a haircut.

When I pick the black berries yesterday, I decided I need to identify the parts that are new and have no berries, from those that are producing. Those that are producing will need to be removed this fall as they only produce one year. I have decided to put a wire tie on the new growth and then in the fall I will not remove the wrong plants.

I had thought about going into the Harbor store and purchasing some wire ties as I have a coupon to get a free item with any purchase. I decided to wait until today as my favorite wife and I usually go into town on Saturday, that way I can save on gas.

Yesterday afternoon I had ventured out to the front porch and was just sitting there in the Ford’s ole chair when the thought came to me to replace the ole camera that seems to have poor night vision, with a new camera that came with the new DVR. Naturally I thought that the new camera would have the same mounting base as the old one, so all I would need to do was remove three screws take the ole camera away and put the new camera in the ole one’s place.

Nope, the new base was a little bit smaller, everything is smaller now days, so I had to get a drill and drill some new holes for the three screws. Well, I got it installed and the day time view is real good, but the night time view is not. The camera needs to point away from the wall a little more, so I will need to do a little adjusting today.

We did sit outside yesterday afternoon and a friend did come over and sit with us. Lots of good conversations, and we did talk about the bible for a while. We did get the phones out and look at some photos for a while, but for the most part all the electronic devices were not used.

I should get my ole dirty pants on and go out to the ditch and trim the weeds but that would require me to get hot and sweaty.

Well, I guess I will quit for now, we hope your day is enjoyable and safe, while you are being nice to that one old person, or two if you are energetic.

May 17, 2024

Yes, we want to wish you another Good Morning. As the Tres and I stepped out to the front yard this morning I could see that the clouds were clearing away and the sun was starting to rise. Wow, it isn’t supposed to rain or storm today! Yep, there is a photo.

We made it through the rain and storms ok yesterday, we did get 1.25 inch of rain, and the back yard was standing in water, most of it is now gone. We are hoping for a good sun filled day. We did not get to sit outside yesterday due to the rain, we did go out for supper and the food was good.

Today I have a plan that I want to attempt to accomplish, and that is to get my hair cut. Yes, it will take all my money and my favorite wife will probably need to put in an extra couple hours of picking up the aluminum cans to cover that expense.

I will not need to get Dave from work or the kids from school as Clair is off work today and she will be able to get them.

I wish I had something to talk about but I don’t, so I will stop for now and get my mind set on the haircut. We hope you have a good day with no rain and plenty of sun light. If you can, please be safe in all you do.

The sky is clearing!

May 16, 2024

Good morning! The morning is good but the day is predicted to be flash floods, storms with high winds and large hail. Sounds like a stay inside day.

I did nothing much yesterday, but I did go to the doctor. She, yes, my doctor is a lady, and she is good at being a doctor, told me of my test results. She did not prescribe any medicine or any other procedures, and said she would see me at my annual physical in July.

I did pull some weeds and some trees from the Jasmin bed yesterday. Did I get them all, nope, but I got a bunch of them.

My favorite wife and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon, it was very warm and an occasional small breeze would pass through to which we gave thanks.

Our main plans for today are to avoid the rain and storms, get the kids home from school safely, if the weather permits, we will go out for supper probably at the cracker store.

The ground in the back 40 is not dry, but the warm sun light over the last two days has helped get rid of the standing water. Now that it is gone, they are saying we will have standing water in the back 40 again starting this afternoon and through the night. We prayed for rain all last summer and now we get more then needed. Wouldn't it be nice to get rain only when we need it.

I was going through some paper work here in the office and found another article about 6 pages long that I had written. Heck, I remember thinking about that topic, but I don't remember putting in on paper. I guess I should go through all documents in the Ford's ole office. I have many copies of the letters that I use to write to my mom years ago.

Well, I guess I will bless you with a short posting today. We hope all is well at your place and please be safe in all you do.

Rain coming.

May 15, 2024

Good morning to one and all, we hope today is as nice as yesterday was. The sun shined and the sky was clear of clouds, yep, a blue sky for a change. Yes, we know as the day progresses, we are to see clouds arriving in preparation for the Thursday storms and severe flooding which is heading our way.

My favorite wife and I did get a couple things done yesterday, we did pot or re-pot 5 flowers. To explain re-pot, we take a flower from a smaller pot and place it in a larger pot. My wife decided to get on the wet ground and pull weeds from the small Jasmin bed, while I decide to trim the front yard with the battery powered string trimmer. I completed the trimming before my favorite wife completed her weeding. I then picked up the weeds that she had piled up in a couple places and got the ole walk behind mower.

I was allowed to mow the front yard and then pick up the remainder of the weed piles. That work finished I went into the house for lunch. I had a can of soup and a sandwich for lunch, and as soon as I finished warming the soup, I remember we had left over homemade chili that I should have eaten. Ole people don't remember things

After lunch I took a break, aka nap, and then I headed out back to attempt to complete the days required work. I water all the newly potted plants along with the other potted plants. I removed a large flowerpot that was in the #1 berry bed, it is now available to have a flower added. I harvested the black berries; we have now received a little over two quarts of berries and we need to be prepared as there is a bunch out there wanting to be ripe. The birds do share a few of the ripe berries and when we see that the bird have been partaking of a berry we leave it there for their enjoyment.

I did spread some potting soil over the small Jasmin bed, in an effort to encourage some extra growth. The beds need possibly a couple inches of dirt, but it can't be added all at one time without killing present Jasmin, so a little at a time will help.

During my periods of work, I did take a couple photos of flowers blooming, and yes, the photos will follow.

The white bloom is on a plant I call the moon plant, that was given to my favorite wife a few years ago. The blooms come on at night and then during the daylight hours if goes away. The colorful bloom is on a flower in the front yard.

Today I have a couple things that might take place, there are a few weeds and trees growing in the big Jasmin beds that I might be able to remove, and we have a broken cement Angel wing that I might try to fix. I do have a doctor's appointment this afternoon and depending on how long that takes, I might be late getting the grand kids from school.

Well, I guess I will stop for now, we hope you have a good day and please stay safe in all you do.

More rain coming. 😐

May 14, 2024

Good morning to all, and it is a good morning here in Hewitt TX. It is supposed to be a sunny day today without rain. Wow, we might be able to go outside and do a couple projects that my favorite wife, “The Donna” wants to do. Don’t ask, I will inform you of one of her projects, it is to pot a few flowers that she has procured. We have the pots nd we have the bulbs to plant in the pots, we have the potting soil all we need is a dry and sunny day.

I have a project that I might attempt to do today and that is, trim the tall grass along the driveway, the walk way and the curb, in the front yard. The grass is growing and the trimming will help improve the look at the homestead. Yes, the grass needs to be mowed and I might also approach that project too. The ground is still soaked but the front yard does drain, so there is no standing water, but that is not true in our back yard. I should note, the neighbor’s yard partly drains into our back yard, and I said partly because he has an area where the water stands and does not drain, it looks bad.

I did almost nothing yesterday, I did get the kids from school and Dave from work, and other than that nothing. I just looked at the security monitor and the sun is shining

I did see something out the window over the kitchen sink yesterday afternoon, that I had never seen before. What? You interrupt my comment to ask what I was doing at the sink? It is none of your business what I was doing at the sink, but just to help move this comment along, I was washing the dishes. Now what was I saying, oh, I remember, as I was looking out of the window, I saw a rabbit in the back 40, then I saw a second rabbit about 20 feet away from the first rabbit. Then all of a sudden one rabbit started chasing the other rabbit, and this was not a slow chase, but they were running crazy fast, around the objects in the back 40 several times. Finally, I guess the chasing rabbit stopped, because I could see one rabbit but not the other. As fast as they were running, Tres would not have been able to catch one of them.

Well with the sun shining, and a few projects to do today, I guess I will stop for now and say, have a good day and be safe in all you do, if you do anything.

Wow, Sunny day

May 13, 2024

Well, we made it through another rain filled day, and there was 1.75 inch of water in the Ford’s ole free rain gage. Now I did not check it this morning so there could be a little more in the gage. All that said, “good morning to you, you are my favorite”!

Yesterday: we had planned to go out for a nice lunch with Dave and his family, but with all the rain and weather we decided to postpone until Patrick and Karla could come up and then all of us would enjoy a meal together. Then we decided we would go to the cracker store for lunch and we invited Dave and the family. We knew there would be a wait time but we were not prepared for what happened.

We arrived early hoping we would beat some of the church people, we were wrong. The dining room was filled and the cracker store was full of people waiting to be seated, heck there was many people standing outside waiting to be called.

We went ahead and checked in, needing a table for 6. We stood around for a while waiting. The computer went down and that caused a bunch of problems. To make the story a little shorter, our name got dropped off the seating list, and we finally got back on the list one hour and fifteen minutes later.

To say my favorite wife was mad would be a misstatement, she was very mad. Service was slow due to all the people who were there celebrating Mother’s Day, the food was ok, we were glad to get out of there.

Different topic: it is so nice to be able to sit here at the ole desk and see what is happening outside; by the way, nothing is happening outside because everything is wet. I have no plans for this day, maybe I will think of something to do later.

It was, and is, so wet outside that I did not attempt to pick the black berries yesterday, I will need my rubber boots on to pick them today.

Today is trash day and I have placed my ole string trimmer out by the trash can, I hope the fellow who picks up metal items (aka junk) will come by and take the weed eater.

Wow, I am done for now, I will get away from this stressing key board and see if I can get a little rest. We hope you have a dry day and please be safe in all you do.

Drought gone, rain forest, maybe.
