August 31, 2024

It is another Saturday morning here in Hewitt Texas, and we hope it is a good morning where you are.

I did little yesterday other than take the Alex to school. As I was relaxing in the homestead it came to me that I had seen another fire ant mound, and it was in the front yard. I immediately jumped out of the Ford’s ole recliner and sprinted to the back door. In truth, I crawled out of the Ford’s ole recliner, staggered to the back door, and went to the shed to get the fire ant killer. After applying the fire ant killer, I did review the entire front yard for other ants, finding none I returned the poison to the shed.

The weather yesterday afternoon was good, we were able to sit outside for an hour and a half without the big fan being on. We even had the little fan and it was not used either. Wow, almost fall weather here in Texas at the end of August.

How are the Fords doing, was the question, and the answer is, “they are doing good”. My favorite wife went into town yesterday to do her usual Friday shopping. We are at a point now that we can be around other people and not have our masks on. Heck, the way this virus is spreading, maybe we should consider wearing the mask. One thing about the mask that I find helpful, when I have it on, I do not touch my face with my hands as much, and that keeps me from putting germs on my face that are on my hands. Got you thinking now?

Since we are back to normal after the virus, our Saturday plans will resume. We will go to the sandwich place and get the 2 for $7 sandwiches, with cheese, a large fry and drinks. After ingesting the food, we will head for the cheap store and see if there is anything we can’t do without. Arriving back at home after all that exercise, we will flop into the Ford’s ole recliner and try to rest, (aka take a nap).

I do need to set the sprinklers to run for one minute in each area, which will allow me to see if all the sprinkler heads are working properly. I just thought, I also need to water the flowers in the pots this morning. Never any rest for the ole people.

Well, I need to get going, we hope you have a good day and please stay safe in all you do.

Normal Saturday schedule.

August 30, 2024

Well, the sun isn’t up yet as I am entering this data, but I think we are all headed for a good morning. I am still expected to wear a mask when I am around anyone, so I don’t get around too many people right now.

No big plans for the day, I will get Alex and take him to school this morning. He had his first freshmen football game yesterday, so I will find out how that went. We did not go as we did not want to sit there with the masks on in the heat.

I did leave the homestead yesterday to go to the teller machine and get the weekly stipend, I wanted to get gas so I went to the Wally world gas station and every pump had a car, there were vehicles around the station waiting to get gas. Heck, it reminded me of the gas wars back in the 1960s. by the way I did not get gas.

Leaving the gas station, I went to the star coffee place to get a free cup of coffee. This is the first time I have purchased a cup of real coffee in several months. Coffee acquired, I headed for home. I had decided I might drink half of the cup since the doctor suggested I stop drinking coffee, and when I tasted the coffee, I wondered why I ever drink it in the past. It did not taste good; I must have been addicted to the caffeine.

At home I took a nice restful nap, then I went out and spread some fire ant killer on the fire ant mounds. I also spread some snail killer on the flower beds, yes you are correct that is a lot of work for an ole person.

My favorite wife and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon, the temp was somewhat cooler and there was a breeze. Well, I guess that is it for now, I need to get started over to Alex house and get him off to school. We hope you all have a good day and please be safe in all we do.

August 29, 2024

Good morning to all, we hope your day is, or, has started well. Tres and I were out on the front yard this morning before the sun was up (6:30) and the neighborhood was very quiet, except for a sound that sounded like someone hitting a metal object with a big hammer, off in the distance. We would hear it, then it would be quiet for maybe 30 seconds and we would hear it again. I have no idea what it was but I bet the people who lived close to the sound knew what it was.

What did the Don do yesterday, probably nothing. Wait a minute, I think he did do some work in the back 40. If memory serves, he had a shovel in his hands and was trying to dig a hole for the second flower to be planted in the flower bed. As usual, his pot hound Tres was supervising the project, or was he just in the way? Review the photo and decide for yourself.

Now even though Tres was in the flower bed enjoying the cool ground on his belly, the Don was able to get the holed dug, then remove the flower from the flowerpot and plant it in the ground. We have one more to plant then the flower bed should be complete, photo to follow.

We did sit outside yesterday afternoon; the weather was warm but not too hot and there were breezes blowing. Time without the TVs and other distractions are good. We do have the cell phones but we do not waste time looking at them unless we get a call.

We have no big plans for the day, we will see what happened as the day progresses.

Well, I guess I will stop for now and get ready to get Alex to school. We hope you have a good day, be nice to at least one person, and it possible be safe in all you do.

August 28, 2024

Another good morning to everyone. We hope your day is starting off well, we have a cool start to the day here in Hewitt. We did get rain yesterday and it rained hard for a while. I checked the free rain gage and it has almost 1 inch of water in it. Now I am not sure if it had any water in it before the rain started, or if it was empty, but the yard is saying thanks for the rain.

After the rain had stopped my favorite wife and I went to the front porch to sit and enjoy the cool temperature, yes, the pot hound Tres was with us.

I am at the point that I can now leave the Ford homestead and if I am around people I need to wear a mask for the next 5 days. I will be taking Alex to school this morning and I will keep the windows down in the truck to keep plenty of clean fresh air in the vehicle.

I have no real plans for the day, I will see what happens. I do need to get back to work on the flower bed, I am not sure if the rain had made that work easier or harder.

I don’t have anything I find interesting to present to you, so I will stop entering data and get Alex to school. We hope you have a good day; please stay safe in all you do and do your best to stay away from the virus.

It rained!

August 27, 2024

Good morning again, we did not get any rain yesterday afternoon and everything is very dry. In the yard where the sprinkler system is not, the ground is full of cracks.

As Tres and I ventured out to the front yard for the morning refresh, I noticed how quiet the neighborhood was. There weren’t any birds making sounds, the wind was not blowing, I could hear and occasional sound of a vehicle over on Hewitt drive, and then I heard it, the sound of a rooster crowing. I don’t know where this rooster was but he was saying good morning to all, and he was saying it often.

Did the Don do anything yesterday: I went out back and cut up a tree limb that had fell a few days ago when we had some heavy winds. Alex had placed the two limbs on the trailer so he could mow and I decided to cut and break it into small pieces so I could put it into the trash container. It was a dead limb from the tree in the back 40.

I also made a small effort to dig in the flower bed but did not put too much effort in that venture.

My favorite wife and I did sit outside yesterday afternoon enjoying the reduced temperature. Our next-door neighbor started walking over to where we were sitting and I told him we have covid. He stopped and said, “I had it last week, I hope you all get better soon”, he turned and went back to his house. Knowing that he had the virus, that means, us and three neighbors have had the virus for a total on our block of 4 families in the last few weeks.

They had predicted some chance of rain yesterday and I think I know why we did not get any rain. I have a photo of the cloud that was over head yesterday.

As you can see, the cloud had holes in it and the rain had fell out before the cloud got here.

Plans for today are, stay at home away from other people so we don’t spread the virus. I guess I will stop for now, we hope you have a good and safe day with out any virus. Be careful, the virus is everywhere.

Sanitize everything.

August 26, 2024

I would like to say good morning to all, we hope your day is starting well and that we will have another good day. I woke up this morning and realized that I may have had one of the best night sleeps I had in a long time.

This is day 4 for me with the virus, the instructions from the doctor were to stay isolated for 5 days. Then, if I had not had a fever for 24 hours, I should wear a mask for the next 5 days when I was around or near other people.

Being confined to one’s homestead is boring. I miss the normal daily routine, even though it isn’t anything special.

Now I did go outside and water the potted plants along with the berry bushes this morning, and I started early enough I was not in the sun very much of the time. A neighbor came over to see how we were doing, he stopped about 50 feet away from me and we talked for a while. We are thankful for the neighbors and friends who have checked on us. Emails, text messages, and phone calls are all safe from the virus, I hope.

Plans for today; stay confined, take too many naps, and think about things I want to do. I still need to dig a couple holes in a flower bed and plant two flowers that we have.

My favorite wife and I did sit outside on the front porch yesterday, we just needed some time outside with some hot fresh air. It was not happy hour, it was just get out of the house time.

Well, I will stop for now, we hope you all have a good day, that everyone stays safe and none of you get the virus.

Recovering.

August 25, 2024

Good morning to most of you, and good afternoon to the rest of you. We here at the Fords homestead are getting better. We had a good night’s sleep last night and feel much better this morning. Our big plans for the day are to stay at home and continue recovering.

Actually, my favorite wife and I sat outside for about one hour yesterday afternoon enjoying the fresh air. Heck, getting out of the house for a while was relaxing. We are well enough that we can do anything we want to do, but we must stay quarantined for a couple more days.

We do have some very good friends. Why did I make that statement, you asked, well I will inform you. Yesterday afternoon we got a call from a friend who said, “I will be dropping something off at your door in a few minutes.” This friend dropped off food for supper. We very much appreciate the food and the fact that we have friends who would do such a nice thing.

We did have our yard man Alex over yesterday to mow the yards. Now I see that you are getting ready to ask why did we do such a thing. I will tell you why we did it, our yard needed to be mowed, and Alex wanted to mow it. Before you explode let me expand on that thought. I took the keys to the shed and the riding mower and sprayed them with alcohol, to kill any germs that were on the keys, and placed them in the garage where Alex could find them.

I could watch him on the security cameras if I wanted to see what he was doing, and I could talk to him with the cell phone. When I paid him with paper money, I sprayed the paper money with alcohol and laid it on the table in the garage. Alex’s dad brought him over end picked him up afterwords. We did not have any physical contact with Alex.

My wife comments that she is bored staying at home all the time, she did not get to go to the usual stores Friday, and we did not get to do our normal Saturday schedule, heck the cheap store may have had something that we needed.

The instructions we got from the doctor state, 5 days after you started the symptoms you can end isolation, with day “0” being the day you started the symptoms.

You must be fever free for 24 hours, then you can end the isolation.

You should where masks for 5 days after the end of isolation, any time you are around people.

My day “0” was the 22nd, my isolation should end and I could depart from the homestead on the 28th.

Well, I guess I should stop for now and start doing nothing again. We hope you all have a good day, stays safe in all you due and that includes not getting the virus.

Confined at home.

August 24, 2024

Good morning to you all, we are still be influenced by the covid virus. We did go to the doctor and I got steroid shot and we both got cough medicine. All I want to do is sleep. My favorite wife is at the end of her time with the varus and I am just at the beginning. We have no idea where we got the virus from.

We have received calls from friends offering to help, and just asking how we are doing.

Friends are good.

August 23, 2024

We hope you are having a good morning; we here at the Fords homestead are not.

My favorite wife has been feeling bad for a couple days now, we thought it was due to the medicine she had been taking. The medicine was supposed to help clear out her lungs and since she has been taking it for a couple days, she has been coughing, sneezing with lots of mucus.

Well, yesterday evening I began to feel crummy and through the night I felt like I had a chill. Yes, I am coughing, sneezing and feel bad, so I took a home covid test. I have covid, my wife took the test and she has the covid. We will call the doctor and or the pharmacy to see if there is anything we can get to reduce the symptoms.

That is it for today, please be careful in all you do. Stay away from the covid.

Feel crummy.

August 22, 2024

This is another start to a hot day here in Texas. A friend in northern Indiana said it was 50 degrees there yesterday morning, that must be nice. Today my plans are to get Alex to school a little early as I have an early morning eye doctor appointment today.

They will probably dilate my eyes and that will put the rest of the day on hold. It takes a while for my eyes to get back to normal, and I usually sit around in the house with sunglasses on until the eyes get back to normal.

I have a photo of some of the work that I did complete yesterday, there is one flower planted in the bed, and I started on the other hole for another flower. By the way, I worked in the hot afternoon, as the sun shines on that bed in the morning.

Well, I need to get go so I will say, "have a good day, be safe in all you do."

August 21, 2024

Good Hot Morning to you. There was a little breeze when the Tres and I walked out the door this morning, but it seems to be gone now.

The so-called Blue Moon was up in the sky this morning and I was able to get the telescope out and look at it for a while. It was big and bright, kind of interesting, but I did not see any aliens on the moon.

Changed topic: I did get tired of sitting in the house doing nothing yesterday, so I decided to start on the remodeling of one flower bed. The project involves removing all the blocks from around the bed, loosening up dirt in the bed, replacing the blocks, digging holes for three big flowers, and a lot of sweating. I have photos which I will share with you, but no one else.

In the above photo we see my weed remover, it is difficult for ole senior people to remove the weeds, and we see one of the big flowerpots that we hope to trans plant. In the following photo we see my supervisor Tres laying in the dirt where I was supposed to be working. I think the dirt was cool on his belly.

In the next photo we see the area with the blocks back in place, which allows me to know where to dig the holes for the flowers. There are roots in the bed and that makes it more difficult to dig. I plan to work on this early this morning after I water the potted plants and get the Alex to school.

I have photos of blooming moon plants; one plant has 9 blooms, and one plan has its first bloom.

Well, I need to get going and get Alex to school. We hope everyone has a good day and that we all stay safe in all we do.

August 20, 2024

Good morning to you and a couple others too. We hope your day is starting off well, and that you can stay inside out of the heat, I understand that it is supposed to be as high as 106 today. That will make it tough to sit outside this afternoon.

Yesterday was trash pickup day, obviously, I did put the trash cart out to the curb. As I was removing said trash cart, I noticed on the pavement underneath where the trash cart normally sits, there was a carcass of a dead rat. Now I have no idea how it got there, but it had been dead for a while. Photo to follow.

I was not thinking, I hope you weren’t getting ready to eat something as you observed the dead carcass of the rat.

Speaking of animals in the neighborhood, our good neighbor a couple houses away has been trapping possums, and they have caught 3 grown possums in three days. They think the possums may be on the move due to the tree limb removing that is going on. When they catch them, they take them out of Hewitt and drop them off in about the same area where the animal control people drop them off. I wonder, do they know how to get back to our neighborhood, heck they came from somewhere. Maybe I should offer to loan them another trap.

Different subject: Since there were many, I mean no questions about the return of the telescope, I thought I would get a couple photos to enlighten the non-questioning public. I placed it in the back 40 and took a couple photos. I have not yet tried to see the moon or stars, but maybe tonight. The weather person said there should be a full moon last night and this one is referred to as the blue moon. I don’t think it would be blue; I think it is just a name.

I wonder how much I paid for this telescope years ago. It seems to be still in good condition.

I got through the eye test yesterday ok, they did not dilate my eyes, and I did not see a real doctor. I did ask why I was not seeing the doctor and I said, “I don’t like driving out here two times in one week.” The lady who was giving me the tests said she didn’t know why they had me scheduled this way. This coming Thursday I go back, and they will dilate my eyes then, darn it.

We did sit outside yesterday afternoon, and we did have the two fans on. The big ole fan was positioned as usual, and the small fan was placed next to my favorite wife. Even though it was 103 degrees yesterday, we were able to survive and actually enjoy the time outside.

I just went outside and checked on the Moon plant to see if it had any blooms. There were three blooms on the big plant with more than 20 soon to be blooms and the other two plants have numerous buds which will soon be blooms.

My big plans for the day are to get the Alex to school safely and then get the hair on my head cut. Yep, these are big plans, heck I might even get a cup of real coffee after the hair cutting episode.

One different subject: I saw a bird yesterday that I have not seen in many years, it was a road runner. I had pulled into the parking lot for the eye exam, and there it was on the parking lot. I thought I might get a photo but by the time I got the phone out the bird had run off. When we first moved into our house in Hewitt there were road runners in the neighborhood but with additional homes and people they disappeared.

I need to get going so I will stop now and say we hope you have a very good day and that we are all safe in want we do.

August 19, 2024

I say good morning to you all, as I have started my day by going out into the back 40 to see if a plant had bloomed. This plant we call the moon plant because it blooms at night. Yesterday my favorite wife and I were out back reviewing the area, after we had given our pot hound Tres a bath. Tres has a habit of getting soaped up really good then we let him run around the yard a while before we rinse him. His habit is to find some dirt and try to roll around in the dirt.

Well, I guess I have gotten off subject, back to the moon plant and blooms. Yesterday we were reviewing the back 40 when we noticed that the big moon plant had a bunch of buds that will be blooming soon. We had thought we should check the plant early this morning to see how many bloomed, and if a bunch we wanted to get a photo. We had one bloom on the big plant. These blooms go away shortly after the sun comes up.

We had also reviewed two other moon plants that as far as we know have never bloomed. They both have a bunch of new buds coming out on them. If we get a bunch of them blooming, we will attempt to get a photo.

We did get out from the house yesterday, as we went to the Cracker store for lunch. We were happy when we arrived, there was no waiting list so we were seated quickly. Lunch was good service seemed to be a little slow.

Back at home we did very little, although I did go on line to get instructions as to how to use my ole telescope. I can manually position it toward something and then view it or I can use the controls to position it. I think it is supposed to be able to find certain stars automatically, but I need to read more about that.

Different topic: I need to get Alex this morning and take him to school. After dropping him off at school I need to go to get my eyes checked. I find this different from the old doctor we had, they would do the eye check and then see the doctor the same day. Now we get the eye check and then see the doctor, three days later, which means I have to drive out there twice. I think they do it to make ole people get out of their homes more often.

My favorite wife and I did sit outside yesterday in the 100-plus heat, and we did have two fans blowing. The big fan as usual and we now have a small battery powered fan which was blowing on my favorite wife.

Well, I need to stop, and then get going. We hope you have a good day and stay safe in all you do.

August 18, 2024

Good Sunday morning to all. We hope you had a good day yesterday and we hope today is even better.

Speaking of yesterday, the Fords had a good day with our family. We all gathered at the Ford Homestead and we decided where we would go for the noon repast (for that one person, repast means meal). Location established, we all jumped into our vehicles and headed out. Arriving at the chosen location we, the eight-person team, entered the building. We requested the round table, and our request was granted. The round table allows each person to easily see the others, so no one feels left out.

Drinks and appetizers ordered; the conversations began. Luckly, the conversations about politics was not the main topic, but opinions were stated. The food was good and the service was also good, with one error. The server refilled my unsweet tea with sweet tea, but I did not complain, since I was not paying for the meal.

Meal completed we all headed for home. I got some advice about my kind of new phone, and there was conversation about work. Obviously, I was not commenting on my work since I am not employed. Tres always likes it when family comes over, he gets a lot of attention.

Patrick brought a telescope home at my request, and now that I see it, I wonder if I can use it properly. I did get it together and I know I can make it work, but it has a motor and some computer type info to help find what you are looking for, I may go on line and see if I can get the instructions. I had purchased this telescope years ago and when I had stopped using it Patrick took it home with him.

After the family left my favorite wife and I decided to head into town to get a cap that she had seen which has a flag and the word Ford on it. We ended up buying a different cap which had Ford on it. While we were in town, we decided to get a to-go sandwich and drink. We also stopped by the cheap store where we purchased a couple items, I got a new water bowl for Tres.

We made it back home safe and we decided to sit outside for a while even though it was hot. I did not have an adult beverage yesterday while we sat outside, I did drink the root beer we had purchased while in town.

It was a good day with family, we hope your day was equally good, and we hope today is even better. I will let you know if I learn how to properly use the telescope, and as always, “please stay safe in all you do”.

Family day!

August 17, 2024

It is the start of a new day, and we say good morning to you, and you alone. I have little to add to the posting since I gave you all yesterday's info, yesterday.

Our plans for today would be to go to lunch with Patrick, Karla, David, Claire, Gabi and Alex. There are usually some lively conversations during our lunch, along with good food. Other than that, no real plans. We usually go to the cheap store after eating lunch, but when we are with the family, we will probably skip the good deals.

A friend came over yesterday afternoon at happy time and we all sit outside relaxing and conversing for a while. It was hot and we had the big ole fan on. The ice in my glass was melting before I would get the drink in my glass drank. Melted ice gives me more to ingest, and it waters the drink down.

Since I have nothing else to share with you, I will post a photo of a couple flowers blooming here at the Ford’s Homestead.

These flowers bloom with several colors, and they have been blooming for several weeks. Well, I wish I had more to present today but I don’t. Maybe I will have something to talk about tomorrow.

No plans, no work!

Well, I guess I will kick back and do nothing until lunch, Don the Ford

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow!

August 16, 2024

Hello to you and those other people too. I want to say good morning to all of you.

I will need to go get the grandkids and take them to school in a few minutes. It is a challenge when you hope to find a way where there is less traffic on the way to school, and all the other drivers are doing the same thing.

I am back and it is in the afternoon, I did get the kids to school but there was a major problem, aka wreck. Now we had decided to try a different route which would bring us to the same destination and we took Panther Way from Hewitt Drive, and it is not a big street. We made it to the turn and there was a policeman who arrived at the same time we did with lights flashing. He made us and all the vehicles behind us turn around and go back. We could see there was a car turned over on the road that we wanted to go onto. Big delay but we got them to school almost on time.

I returned home and I watered the potted plants this morning, which isn’t too much of a project in its self but I decided to also water the berry beds and then it takes more time. I was doing nothing but standing there spraying water and I was sweating. The flowers and berries watered I decided to wash the windows on the Ford’s ole pickup. Even though the truck is parked under the carport, it still gets that sticky stuff from the trees on the windows and body of the truck.

The windows looked good so I decided to use the window washer / squeegee on the truck body. It has a sponge and a squeegee so I started washing the truck with the sponge part of the window cleaner. I did not need to bend down or stretch as the window cleaner has a long handle, and it worked better and easier than I expected. I did need to squeegee the windows a second time as I got water on them when I was rinsing the soap off the truck.

That done, I was very hot and sweaty so I decided to take a shower. Now I had my favorite wife take the bandage off my back, and after the shower, I put a clean Tee shirt on with no bandage. There have been no problems with the area on my back for two weeks, so we decided to try it without the bandage. So far, so good.

All cleaned up, I decided to do my daily bible reading and then have lunch. Finally, I was able to get some time in the Ford’s ole recliner resting my eyes before my favorite wife returned from town.

I need to clean the office and it is a time-consuming event with all the items I have in the room. Each item needs to be moved, that area cleaned, the item cleaned, and then replaced. Obviously, I start up on the higher areas so that any dust that escapes my grasp will fall to a lower area which I will also clean. The floor gets the last cleaning.

Ok an odd experience this morning early. Tres and I had ventured out to the front yard for his morning review of the area and I was looking up into the sky. Now it was before sun up and I was looking to see if there were any stars that I could see. I looked around and saw nothing, and then I saw it, what at first appeared as a single star, but then I noticed it was flashing. I thought it must be an air plane but it is very high, and there seemed to be two flashing lights side by side. I thought it must be a plane heading my way as it did not seem to be moving. I kept watching it and it did not appear to move. I watched it for a couple minutes and decided maybe I have now seen a space ship, could it have been the space station. I don’t know what it was but it was there and it flashed.

Well, I did go and get gas for the Ford’s ole Chevy and when I returned, I remembered that I had started this posting this morning and had not finished it, so now it is finished.

We hope you have had a good day and we hope everyone stayed safe.

August 15, 2024

It is over, and I want to say thanks to all who wished me a happy birthday. I even got a call from a friend who I ran around with as a teenager. It has been a while since we had talked and it was a pleasant surprise when he called. That being said, we wish everyone a good morning.

Yesterday was pretty much as I had forecast it to be with a couple small exceptions. I did not need to get Gabi from school, and my favorite wife and I went out for supper. We did sit outside for a while yesterday afternoon, and it was hot but there was an occasional breeze which would interfere with the big ole fan’s air flow.

Plans for today are to follow my normal schedule with the one exception and that is, take the Tres to the vet. I think vets charge more than human doctors. One month of the meds that Tres gets for itching cost more than what I pay for an entire year of my meds.

If you live in or around Hewitt Texas you know how bad the traffic is when school is in session, and yesterday it was even worse. It seemed as if every parent or grandparent were taking their kid or kids to school. They have buses for the kids to ride but it seems that many do not ride the buses. I expect today to be the same, and I hope it gets better as everyone gets use to this year’s school schedule.

Actually, I need to get going so I will stop for now and say, we hope everyone has a good day, and be safe in all you do.

August 14, 2024

This is a good morning as it is The Dons birthday. The Don is not 21 years ole again, heck he might even be over 50 years old, again? Before we go any further, I want to wish everyone a good morning. We hope you all have a wonder filled day.

Now since it is The Dons birthday, he decided to provide a photo of him for your enjoyment. If you think he looks very young in this photo, we say thanks, and we know you are stretching the truth, as he is now as of this day, 77 years old.

The photo was taken as a selfie, the orange line in the photo is the Tres’ lead. The Don likes hats and that is why he has it on, yes, he still has hair on his head, although it is kind of gray. What are The Dons plans for the celebration of his birth? First, he will take the Gabi and the Alex to school, they have to be there by 8:25, then I go home and brush my teeth and get ready to go to the dentist, I have a 10:00 appointment. Yes, a dental appointment on my birthday, and later in the afternoon I will get to pick up Gabi from school, Alex stays for football practice. If you are thinking The Don really knows how to celebrate, you are incorrect

The Don will likely get to sit outside this afternoon with his favorite wife and enjoy the quiet time, and maybe an adult beverage.

Speaking of quiet time, yesterday morning while The Don was outside working, aka watering the pots and the berries, along with removing more of the dead from the #3 black berry bed, it was very noisy. Now this wasn’t just the birds having conversations, there was hammering off in the distance which sounded like someone was getting a new roof. There was the sound of a train going through town, and the tree trimming people were making a lot of noise with the chain saws and tree limb chippers. The noise was bad enough, but the heat and the humidity made it even worse.

Did The Don do anything yesterday that hasn’t been previously presented? Yes, The Don did pick up Alex from football practice yesterday morning at about 10:30. I had stopped by the chicken place and purchased an iced tea for me and for Alex. When the Alex got into the Ford’s ole Chevy with me, he noted that Gabi had sent him a text wanting him to ask me if I would get her some chicken for lunch. well, being a nice grandpa, I gave in and headed for the chicken place, again. I did ask Alex if he wanted any chicken for lunch and he said, “yes please”. The chicken that they wanted came as a meal, which includes an iced tea. That meant that Alex got two ice teas, you know, football practice in the heat, dehydrates a person, and the two ice teas can help to rehydrate a person.

Another fact about yesterday, Claire started work at Do it Best, she will be working in receiving. Best wishes for Claire in the new job.

I started out at HWI (Hardware Wholesalers Inc) now known as Do it Best, in 1971 in the receiving department.

I guess that will be all for now, we hope you have a good day, and we hope that everyone stays safe.

August 13, 2024

The sun isn’t up yet, but I think it is a good morning here at the Ford’s Homestead, and we wish you a good morning too.

As you might know, I did work outside yesterday mowing and trimming. The reason I brought this back up is sweat, the clothes I had on were soaked. I do not mean damp, but they were soaked and it took a long while for them to dry before I could put them in with the dirty clothes.

A happy event occurred yesterday, The Don got an early birthday cake and a funny birthday card. The cake is a Rum Cake and it is GOOD! My favorite wife got one of these cakes for her birthday and she shared it with others, I do not plan to share this cake, it is mine, all mine. The birthday card was funny as it compared ole people with ole cars, and it was correct.

Today’s activities: I do need to get Alex from football practice this morning, I need to water the flower pots and I might get the riding mower out and mow parts of the back 40. Other than that, not any real plans.

We did sit outside yesterday afternoon and it was hot. We did have the big ole fan on for most of the time, but not all the time. There were some good breezes blowing for a while and we enjoyed mother nature providing the breeze.

Cat subject: molly the cat has been staying outside and in the garage for quite a while. We put her out do to the fact that she would hide under a bed and not come out, it was as if she was afraid of everyone. Lately she has been coming into the house and checking things out but not staying too long before wanting to go back outside. She does act normal now, not afraid of people, as a matter of fact she wants to be petted a lot. I guess one day she will come back in and decide to stay inside.

Well, I need to get started on watering pots, you do know the term Pot has a couple different meanings. After watering the pots, I will see if I want to get on the riding mower, or not. We hope you have a good day and please stays safe in all you do.
