            It is Monday again, wow, we made it through another week. I see that you do not want to know what I did yesterday, so here we go, what did the Don do yesterday, by Don the Ford.

Well, Sunday morning I did watch a couple TV preachers deliver their sermons, and I as usual, read from the bible. We had a nice lunch which my present wife prepared for our noon repast, and yes there was some left overs for the evening meal.

After lunch and a short follow up nap, naps after lunch are required, I decided to go out in the back 40 and review the berry beds. We are getting more red berries and will be picking them very soon. As I was reviewing the berry beds, I recalled that I had some limbs that needed to be cut up and put into the trash container. Procuring the necessary tools, I set my sights on the limbs, knowing that I wanted to cut them in small lengths of about one foot long, which make them easier to dispose of in the trash bin. That task completed I put the tools away and decided to pick up the debris and Poopa-Loopa from the back 40, thinking I might get our yard man (Alex) to come over and mow.

There were other items that needed to be removed such as the 100-foot-long garden hose, and dog toys. All that work finished my ole body was dragging, so I call to see if our yard man would come over and mow. He didn’t come as he had other plans. 

At this point in the early afternoon, I decide to rest a few minutes and then maybe I would get on the ole riding mower and mow the back 40. While I was resting, I received a phone call from my sister in Missouri. We talked for a while which fit in with my rest period. Phone conversation and rest period over, I decided to drag my ole body out to the back 40 and attempt to mow.

I was able to get the mower out, checked the tires pressure and oil level, add some gas and then begin mowing. I did get the back 40 mowed, but I did not weed eat, but I might do it today. after putting the ole mower away I re-entered the Ford’s homestead and started writing this blog posting, I am finishing it this morning.

We are supposed to get the final bid on the possible carport today, then we will decide what we want to do. 

My wife and I decided to sit outside yesterday afternoon, and that was when I was reminded that I would be allowed to water the newly planted flowers, along with anything in a flower pot in the front yard. As usual, I was able to complete the task in a fair amount of time and then join my favorite wife sitting on the Ford’s ole swing and enjoy a beverage.

            As we review the events of yesterday, we are very thankful that the storms did not come our way.

            Before we get in to the review of yesterday, allow me to tell you about the squirrel that was on the bird feeder just a couple minutes ago. I happened to look at one of the security monitors and this squirrel was on the bird feeder and he was knocking some of the seeds out of the feeder to the ground, then he would go to the ground to eat. The odd part is, the squirrel has to hang on to the post with his back feet, while reaching for one of the three feeders with his front feet. I wish there were less squirrels in the area.

            Back to yesterday’s review. My favorite wife allowed me to take her with me when I drove into Waco to get some adult beverages. Since she rode along with me, I thought it best that I attempt to provide her with a quick lunch at one of the sandwich shops.

            Sandwiches eaten, we entered the Ford’s ole Chevy and started for home, we did not have any other business we wanted or needed to visit. As we drove, we were discussing a couple items that we needed to get but we did not need immediately. There is a store that supposedly sell items cheaper than other stores so I decided to stop and see if they had anything we might want. I was able to get some gas stabilizer at a good price, but my present spouse did not find anything that she needed.

            Heading for home my first wife noted that she wanted to get some flowers for one of the flower beds, and going to the local nursery might be a good idea. When we arrived at the nursery, we were surprised that they were having an event, with free food and drinks. We drove through the parking area but there were no parking spaces. I said, we can’t park so we will leave. We were driving slowly toward the exit when we saw a couple get into a vehicle and leave. Naturally we took that parking space. We were able to see an ole friend who use to work at DIB, I got a big hug! Since we had already eaten, we did not get any free food and my pleasant spouse did get some flowers.

            Arriving at home, we unloaded the flowers and adult beverage from the vehicle and I headed for the Ford’s ole recliner for a needed nap, while my favorite wife proceeded to plant the flowers. The rest of the day was kind of boring until about 5:00pm. I did review the berry beds and we have a few red berries. I did remove a couple large limbs from the yard, which I will need to cut up today.

            About 5:00pm we went outside to enjoy the hot weather when a friend arrived with some food treats. We all found a place to sit and talk when another friend with her grandchild came over. The granddaughter stirred up the conversations. Then a couple more friends arrived and the conversations became even more lively. We all enjoyed visiting but I did miss out on the three stooges.

            And now you know how our day went. We hope you will have an equally enjoyable day today, please be nice to ole people and stay safe.

            Good day to all, we hope you had a good night. I am sitting here trying to think of something that I could write about, but I don’t think I did anything yesterday that I consider as interesting, so I have nothing to write about.

            If memory serves me, I decided to go to the star coffee store to get a cup of real coffee. While I was in line at the drive through, I got a call from Dave that he was done working and needed a ride home. That worked out well, as the star coffee place is only about a block from where he works. 

As usual I went to get Alex from school and they were having another track meet. The parking lot was almost full of vehicles but I did find a spot to park and wait on Alex. I sat there in the Ford’s ole Chevy until I heard the bell ring, then I got out and stood near the vehicle so Alex could see where I was. Alex and I had to go get Gabi from her school, but due to the track meet, we could not take the short cut to get there. It took several minutes longer to get Gabi but we did, and I was able to get them home safely.

Back at home my favorite wife and I did sit outside for about and hour and a half, it was hot yesterday but there was a lite breeze which helped. They were calling for storms again yesterday but the skies were clear as we sat outside. I did get another photo of Molly relaxing.

            I did decide to take my truck to the neighbor’s shelter just in case we were to get some hail last night. We did get a little rain and some thunder last night but no hail that we know of in Hewitt. Today is supposed to be another nice day, that might end up with storms this afternoon or evening.

            Well, before anyone asks, I did get to see about half of one of the Star Wars movies while I was reclining in bed yesternight. It was relaxing and brought on some well-deserved sleep.

            The sleep was interrupted around 11:00pm by a Thunder and heavy rainstorm. The strong wind and rain encouraged me to get out of bed, water was flowing down the street at curb level, the back 40 was standing in water, the rain at times was going sideways. Yep, there is standing water still in the back 40 this morning.

            Tres does not like storms and lightning, so he was staying very close to me, at times almost on top of me. We learned this morning that the Waco airport received an inch of rain in the storm, our free rain gage has 2.25 inches. There was some hail reported in the storms last night, my wife suggested that I call early this morning and schedule the install of the new car port.

            I went out with Tres to get the newspaper this morning and the neighbors sprinkler system was running, after 2.25 inch of rain. I called him, and I think I woke him up, he was surprised about the sprinklers, and had a couple of words that I will not repeat.

            Topic swap: My favorite wife and I decided to go out to the George restaurant yestereve (yes that is a word) and we had a very filling supper. We did not have anything left over to bring home for lunch today. Arriving back at home we sat outside for an hour or so enjoying the nice but hot weather, before the storms would arrive. 

            I got some photos of flowers yesterday before all the rain, and I will share a few of them with you.

 

            What, you think the yellow flower isn’t a flower. Are you attempting to say my present spouse missed a weed, when she was pulling weeds, the other day? You tell her!

May 4th, 2023

            May the fourth be with you today, and I hope that the force be with you (aka God). Maybe you will be able to watch one of the Star Wars movies today.

            I did get my haircut yesterday, and I wish I could say that I look younger and smarter, but I just look a little better than before the haircut. I guess ole people don’t look younger or smarter.

            After the haircut, I decided to get a cup of coffee from the star coffee place, but after sitting in line for a few minutes I said, the heck with it and headed for home and a cup of homemade coffee. My homemade coffee was as good as the star coffee.

            I did water the flowers that are in pots yesterday, and we moved a large flower pot that my favorite wife had potted earlier. We put the large pot in the ole red wagon and pulled it around to the front yard were my present wife directed me to place the large pot. I did get to throw away a couple ole pots.

            I did learn a couple things, as I was taking the Alex home yesterday. One, he will be involved in the orchestra next Tuesday evening, it will be their last show for the year. Two, he is doing very good in the weight lifting training for football.  

            My wife and I did get to sit outside for a while yesterday, but it happened that she also got caught up in conversations with a couple passing friends. Yes, I sat there all alone, would you believe, tears falling down my cheek into my adult beverage, I wouldn’t believe it either but it sounds good.

            People have many habits, and often we do not think about the fact that lots of what we do is habitually motivated. Example of one of my habits; after taking a shower I dry off my left arm first then my right, and yes, I do usually dry off the rest of my body too. We eat meals at the same time daily, if we watch the TV news it is the same channel every day.

            I have picked a couple things that I am trying to change and we will see if I can make these changes last for more than a day or two. One of those changes is the time that I head into the bed room after supper. I don’t think it will be easy to change but I will try.

            Your change challenge is: which shoe do you put on first, left or right? Once you have determined left or right, try to make the change for two weeks, I dare you! 

            We are supposed to get rain today, off and on all week, if we do not get rain, I will be forced to turn the sprinklers system on.

            We have several berries that are turning red and thousand’s that are green. I am keeping a close eye on them and will be picking them soon.

 

            Molly the cat goes to the vet today, but she is outside right now, I hope I can find her before time to go.

            Baby birds: we have heard the sounds of baby birds in the bird houses for a while now, and we are now seeing the baby birds out of the house on the ground. Some are not yet ready to fly, we hope the cats and other animals don’t find them.

            It is a bright and shiny morning here in Hewitt Texas, the sun is up and shining and I have already gone to get the morning burrito. Before no one asks, I did not get a real coffee, just a burrito. I knew that the traffic would be bad as it was about 20 minutes after 7:00, everyone was taking kids to school, and some people might have been going to work. The traffic in Hewitt before school starts and when school gets out is said to be, “worse than traffic in Dallas or Huston during rush hour.” I am a believer!

            I am back, the fellow was here to give us a bid for a car port. Would you believe that a car port for the Ford’s ole Chevy would cost more than $ 368.00! Do they think ole people have that kind of money?

Do you have any idea how many aluminum cans my favorite wife would need to pick up, to pay that amount of money? Let me tell you, I would be fixing my own meals here at the homestead because, my first wife would be walking up and down the highways, day and night, looking for cans.

            Our neighbor down the street is getting a bid on a two-car carport from the fellow who gave us the bid, and we are supposed to get a bid from another company. 

            Topic swap: I do plan to get my hair cut today if I can get my ole body out of the house and into the Ford’s ole Chevy, sometime this morning, and it is possible, I might get a cup of real coffee after the haircut, that is if I have any funding left over.

            This ole person made it through the day yesterday without to many problems, and as usual has nothing to do today. There is no yard work that needs to be done and if there was, I would not be doing it. We may get a bid on a car port, that was my wife’s idea.

            Last night was the last Bible study meeting for this year, next week there will be another meeting but it is not bible study, it is an opportunity for anyone to get up in front of the entire group and talk. I would assume that most people would not want to speak to a large group, and that is why a portion of the group will not attend.

            Topic swap: I am wondering if I should water the berry beds, we have had some good rain four days back, and we are supposed to get more rain starting this Thursday. Decisions, decisions, ole people should not need to make tough decisions.

            Well, I have no photos and I have a need for a cup of coffee. I do have enough points to get a free cup at the Star place but I think I will go with a homemade cup.

            Wow, we are now in another month with nothing to do, and if we had something to do, we would not have the money to do it. It is rough being ole people.

            I did nothing yesterday; well, I did water the flowers in flower pots, but that is about it. Now my favorite wife was on her knees in the back yard yesterday, I assume she was praying while she was pulling weeds from the flower beds. My first wife and I did sit outside for a while yesterday afternoon, even though it was hot, yep 86 degrees hot.

            We have the grand kids here this morning, and we get them here early morning once a month. When the grandees get here, they often allow me to take them to the Star coffee place for a cup, but it isn’t normal coffee, they get special drinks. This morning I was allowed to purchase an additional drink for Gabi’s boyfriend. I did get them to school on time and safely. Hopefully I will be able to get them home safely this afternoon.

            Topic swap: we have had a couple days without a cloud being seen in the sky. This morning while the Tres and I were outside looking for the newspaper, I saw a cloud, which means the clouds are coming back, photo to follow.

             Yes, it is a little cloud, but it may be the start of something big. Also, I have another photo which was taken yesterday when we were sitting outside. Yep, we were mooned.

            Tonight, is the last of this year’s bible study meeting, and they are having Pizza before the meeting starts. There will be a get together next week, and I am told that about half of the people do not show up for that get together, something about some people don’t like to talk in front of others. I guess I need to ask a couple questions about that get together to see if I want to go.

            I really don’t have any plans for the day, other than, maybe taking a nap or two. Well, I guess I will stop for now, we hope your day is good and safe.
