October 29, 2025

It is a dark and cool good morning as I ventured forth from the homestead. Why was the Don leaving earlier than usual? No one asked, well I will tell you. He was going to the food place to get a couple of breakfast burritos. I will tell you they were good, but the hot sauce was very hot sauce.

Let's consider altered schedules again. Normally I have a cup of coffee while watching the so-called news each morning and a second cup of coffee while taking Alex to school, then I do not usually have another cup during the day.

Yesterday I followed the usual routine (aka schedule) and had two cups of coffee. Later in the morning when I was starting my bible study I thought, "maybe I would have another cup of coffee", so I went to the coffee machine and put the little cup in and turned it on. While it was making the coffee I went to the computer and started it. Then I got the bible and started the homework. I think the bible study took a little more than and hour. When I put everything away, I walked to the kitchen and saw my cold cup of coffee sitting there in the machine. Yep, I had forgotten that I had made a cup as I do not usually do that. Wow maybe when I have a different schedule I should make some notes to help me remember what to do.

Yesterday's workload: we have decided to attempt to make some room in the garage before the cold weather gets here so we can put a few plants in out of the cold. I did move the Table saw out to the shed and that meant I had to carry it out there all by myself.

That completed, I then decided to pick up the dog Poopa-Loopa from the back 40. There was plenty to be removed. While I was in the back yard, I decided to cut up a few of the small limbs that are on the trailer and take them to the trash can.

Back at the garage we straightened up some areas and went through some items and even tossed out some items. It seems to be very difficult to throw something away even though you haven't used it for years.

I then decided to put together a bird house. I will provide a photo or two for my enjoyment. I did need to cut ¼ inch of wood off both side pieces, as they were too long. There are several other sets of boards for bird houses and the sides on them will also need to be cut off.

This morning it was cool, and our cat Molly came into the house. As I was getting dressed, she surprised me by coming into the bathroom and jumping on the counter, so I got a photo for your enjoyment.

She was looking at me and wondering what I was doing. She has to go to the vet today.

We sat out for a while yesterday, but it was very windy.

Well, I will stop for now, we hope you have a very good day and please stay safe in all you do.

October 28, 2025

Good morning from us here in Hewitt Texas. We hope it is not only a good morning but also a good day.

So far this morning; I have gotten a late start at getting up and starting this soon to be boring posting. For this ole person, not being on schedule is very distracting. Now by that I mean, whatever gets me off schedule has too much of my attention and that distraction causes me to not do things that I need or should do. Example, I was supposed to call the vet yesterday and being on a different schedule I forgot, so now I need to call the vet today.

What was the unusual schedule, "no one asked", well I will tell you. I was to take my favorite granddaughter Gabi for a job interview yesterday and I kept thinking about that. Yes she is my only granddaughter and my favorite.

Ok, let's get serious for a minute and consider "forgetfulness". I would like to relate a situation where I had forgotten something. In fact, I have forgotten this twice in the last couple weeks and it is due to schedule changes.

Yesterday morning, I was able to drag my ole body out of bed and make it to the recliner in the front room where I activated the TV and had a cup of homemade coffee in hand. I sat there with the TV on and as usual I was criticizing the so-called news for its content. As I see it, the 30-minute morning news is 50% the so-called weather, and he says the same thing repeatedly. After enduring the morning news, I was able to get my ole body back into the bedroom where I procured some clothes to put on. After the normal brushing of the teeth and combing of the hair I headed to the fords ole so-called office and turned the computer on. I entered the data into the computer and sent the post to the blog site. I then left the homestead and went to get Alex and take him to school. I did get him there safely and I returned home where I learned what I had forgotten. "I had forgotten to eat my breakfast!

I usually turn the computer on, then go to the refrigerator and get a breakfast sandwich, put it in the microwave and heat it up, then eat it while I and sitting at the desk in front of the computer. Schedule change takes my attention away from normal things.

Different topic: I do need to complete my reading of the story I had written several years ago. I only have a few more pages and I will be done. It is good even if I have to say so myself.

Bible study was good and there are some well-spoken people in our class. They are able to explain things in much better detail than I can, but I believe my explanations are equally revealing of what I have studied.

Well, I think I will stop for now, we hope you have a very good day and that we are all safe in all we do.

October 27, 2025

Wow, we are starting another week here at the Ford's homestead. I guess I should say good morning to all, and we hope you have a good day.

Let us take a look at yesterday's few events: my favorite wife and I went to the cracker store for lunch. Lunch was good then we headed over to the cheap store where we found nothing that we needed or wanted. Back at the homestead we decided to sit on the front porch and enjoy the quiet neighborhood. When I say quiet, I mean there was little going on as it was Sunday, and I assume everyone was taking it easy. After about an hour of very quiet time (I don't remember anyone even driving down our street) we went into the house where I read more from my story about the beginning of time. I have a few more pages to read and I will be done. Two things about this story; I am the only one who has read the story that I wrote years ago, and I still find it interesting even though I wrote it.

Around 4:00pm we decided to again go outside and enjoy the good weather. The neighborhood was still very quiet.  I do have a couple photos from yesterday.

Molly gets very comfortable lying on her back with her hind leg in the air and later they were both lying in the driveway resting.

Today I will take Alex to school and later in the afternoon I will take Gabi for a job interview. All that completed we do have bible study this evening.

Well, I guess I will stop and get started, we hope you have a good day and please stay safe in all you do.

October 26, 2025

"What a day for a daydream, dreaming about my bundle of joy", wait, that sounds like words from a song of the 60s. We are now in the 20s and I wish you a good morning.

Allow me to tell you about, "the Ford's ole rain gage". I did venture out to the rain gage this morning to see how much rain we received yesterday. I should note that yesterday afternoon at about 4:30 we went to the front porch to enjoy some happy time.

First, I should say it was very cloudy, which made it a dark afternoon. We could hear some thunder off in the distance and Tres was not happy with the thunder. As we sat down in the chairs the wind started to blow. The wind continued to increase its velocity and after about one minute we decided to go inside. We had been in the house for about 30 seconds when the rain began to fall.

I went to the so-called office and looked at the security monitors, and it was blowing and raining. Tres was under the desk as he does not like storms. I thought about our cat Molly, she doesn't like storms either. I opened the door to the garage and Molly came in. Tres was under the desk and Molly was laying on the floor almost against the wheels of my chair. It rained for quite a while as I sat there watching the Three Stooges. They actually had one that I do not remember seeing in the past.

I should note, I did have an adult beverage when we had gone outside, and I did bring it back into the house when we came in. I did consume the adult beverage as I watched the TV, but I did not enjoy it like I do when I sit outside. It is kind of like I am not supposed to have an adult beverage in the house.

I guess I have gotten carried away trying to explain the rain and storms effects. This morning when I checked the rain gage, I expected to see 3 inches of water in the gage but, there was actually a little over 4 inches of water in the gage. We received 2 inches in the first rain and 2 inches in the second rain. I think the drought is broken.

Topic change: Patrick and Karla came up yesterday and Dave Claire and Alex also came to our house. We all went out to lunch together and the food was good, but the discussions were even better. After eating Patrick and Karla came to our house and we visited for a while. Pat helped me with my emails on my phone; I thank they now work again but I have not tried them yet today.

No big plans for today, we may go out to lunch and then who knows what we will do. My favorite wife might allow me to take her to the cheap store after we eat.

We had a good day yesterday, and hope your day today is as good, while we all stay safe in all we do.

Don the Ford

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 25, 2025

I will say it is a good morning and one reason for it being a good morning is, "a little over two (2) inches of rainwater is in the Ford's ole expensive rain gage this morning".

The storm came through last night with a lot of rain, wind and lightning. Tres was afraid and he did not seem to know what he wanted to do, he finally decided to get on the bed, up against me.

Yesterday I did not do much, I did get the daily Bible study homework done and after a short break I decided to start reading a story I had written several years ago. This is a short story just a little over 70 pages long. It starts out in a different universe, and it ends up in our present-day universe. Even though I wrote this story, I find it interesting when I read what I have written. I was able to read halfway through it yesterday and I hope to finish it today. I don't think anyone other than me has read this story. It is a Fictional story or is it. Could it be totally true and the information in the story was provided to me from…

Topic change: my favorite wife and I did set outside yesterday afternoon, and the weather was breezy and nice. I do have a photo for my enjoyment, and it shows the hair that is growing on my face. I have not yet decided whether to keep it as it is or alter it, I could just shave it off.

That is really nice. I have provided you with a photo of me and all you look at are the items in the background. I don't know why I even try.

You're not paying attention so I will just stop for now. We hope you have a good day and stay safe in all you do.

Don the Ford

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 24, 2025

Good Friday morning to one and all, we hope the day turns out well for all. They are calling for rain and storms here today, tonight and tomorrow, we hope everyone enjoys the rain and no one has a storm or flood.

Let us look at yesterday: the day started off normal, I did get a cup of coffee at the star coffee place and the drive through took about 8 minutes. With coffee in hand, I headed to get Alex and take him to school. We always have good conversations on the way to school, and I did get him there on time and in a safe manner.

I made it home and with the rest of the cup of coffee in hand, I headed for the Ford's ole recliner for a rest period. I had just got comfortable in the recliner when my phone rang, it was our son Dave. He was sitting outside at work and wanted to know if I had time to take him to the doctor. He explained that he had dropped a log on to his toe while working at his home and it was swelling and hurting.

I dragged my ole body out of the Ford's ole recliner and staggered out to the Ford's ole Chevy. On the way to get Dave, I stopped at the teller machine and got our weekly stipend. Dave was waiting in front of the building. We headed to the doctor's office, where Dave went in and I stayed out in the truck. The monitor in the truck that shows what radio channel you have on, or the view from the backup camera was messing up. It was going through radio channels but did not stay on anyone. I sat there messing with it while Dave was with the doctor.

After about an hour and a half Dave texted, telling me what they were doing. I texted him back saying I was going to get a cup of coffee, and I might not be parked in the same spot when he came out.

I drove to the coffee shot for a cup and then drove back to the Doctors office, where I was able to park in the same parking spot. Dave came out a little later and I drove him to his house.

Back at home my morning was finished, it was now noon, and I had not had lunch. I was able to get back into the ole recliner, but the second cup of coffee influenced me, I was not sleepy. I sat there trying to rest but rest failed.

I decided to work on my bible study homework. It took a while, but I think I got it done.

It is difficult when an old person's normal routine gets changed, but my favorite wife and I did go outside and enjoy the happy time late in the afternoon, as the weather was nice but it was still in the mid-80s.

Today's possible event: I do not need to take Alex to school, I do not need to go anywhere, I might work on a new bird house when my favorite wife goes into town.

Well, it is time to stop so I will wish you a good day and please stay safe in all you do.

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 23, 2025

Good morning, good day, good evening or good night, depending on when you read this.

Early yesterday morning I stopped at the coffee shop to get a cup before heading for Alex's home. It took a while to get through the line, but I did get through and was able to get Alex to school safely and on time. Returning home I took the cup of coffee and headed for the Ford's ole recliner for a short rest period.

Nap completed I did my first day of Bible study, we have six days of bible study each week. That completed I went into the garage and checked the screws and small nails that I may need to build the bird houses. I am hoping that Alex will want to help with the construction.

Speaking of Alex, his school orchestra has an event next Thursday night and it costs $10.00 per ticket. This is a fund raiser and that is why the $10.00 tickets.

Later in the day yesterday, after sitting on the front porch for a while with my favorite wife, I did get to work watering the potted plants. Speaking of water, we haven't had any rain for about a month now, but they are saying we will get some rain this Friday and Saturday. They even say we have a good chance for more than one inch, and we need it.

At happy time my wife allowed me to sit outside with her and enjoy the cool 81-degree temperature.

Plans for today: as usual I will try to get Alex to school on time and in a safe manner, then I need to go to the teller machine and get our weekly stipend. Other than that, I have no idea what I will be doing.

Our son Patrick and his wife Karla are supposed to come up for a visit this Saturday. I am hoping he will be able to make my phone start sending and receiving emails again.  We usually go out for lunch when they come up, we are not sure if Dave and Claire will be able to go with us for lunch.

I guess I should stop for now, we hope you have a very good day and be safe in all you do.

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 22, 2025

Here we are starting another good morning. There is one part that may not be considered as good and that is the local so-called news programs. As I understand it, they start at 4:00am and go to 7:30am. Now they usually have very little news, so the weather guy is in front of the camera about 50% of the time. At the beginning of each half hour, they basically start over, so if you are an ole person who isn't in a hurry to do anything, you might watch one 30-minute session and start the next when you get aggravated and shut the TV off or change channels.

Let's review yesterday: I was sitting around doing nothing when I decided to pick up debris from the front yard. It has been windy for the last couple days and there was plenty to pick up. I also retrieved a couple piles of Poopa-Loopa which our pot hound Tres had left there.

The work completed I did not want to return to the Ford's ole recliner and do nothing, so, I decided to see if I could put a bird house together. I used the ole pieces that had been in the garage for at least a year for my project. I wanted to see what I would need to do before I started with the newly cut wood. I did get it put together but there was one small problem, the two sides were about 1/8 inch too long. Now the two ends are first attached to the bottom then the two sides. Even though this is scrap wood I still like to make it look as good as possible, so I then had to move the sander out of the garage onto a bench and stand 1/8 inch off each of the two sides. Photo of the completed house to follow.

Yes, I also drilled a 1 3/8in hole for the door, and I also installed a dowel for the birds to stand on. Wow, a lot of work for a senior person.

Later that day my favorite wife and I sat outside. It was windy and only 83 degrees, what a nice happy time.

Well, I need to get going and take Alex to school. I often stop at the Star coffee place and get a cup of coffee before getting Alex. I may go there too often, yesterday I pulled up in the drive through wanting to place my order. The person said, "is this Don", I said "yes", and he asked, "do you want a Tall coffee with cream", and I said "yes", he said "see you at the window". For that one person, a tall coffee means a small coffee.

I need to stop so I will wish you a good and safe day.

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 21, 2025

Good morning to you all, we hope everyone has a good day. It is supposed to be in the mid-80s this afternoon and that will make our sitting outside much better.

Yesterday's events: I was sitting around doing almost nothing when I decided to get outside and do something. I went to the shed and decided to get the chop saw and take it to the driveway. I positioned it under the car port and brought some of the wood that is left over from the manger project. I decided to cut some pieces for bird houses.

To make a bird house I need two pieces for the roof, a front and back, one bottom and two sides. That doesn't sound like much, but it is a lot of cutting. I should also note that the wind was blowing and that meant the saw dust was being blown around. I cut enough pieces for 6 bird houses. I do have some more wood to make more houses.

I will attempt to put one of the bird houses together to see what I need in the way of nails and screws. Alex will likely help me when we start putting them together.

I used the leaf blower to attempt to clean the saw and the driveway. After all the work and a quick shower, we did sit outside relaxing in the warm and windy afternoon.

Bible study was good as usual last night, and I saw a couple people with the name Don on the tags. I didn't know my name was so popular.

I have no real plans for today. I will stop and head over to Alex's house and take him to school. We hope you have a very good day and stay safe in all you do.

Don the Ford

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

Monday, October 20, 2025

October 20, 2025

I think it is a good morning even though the sun isn't up yet.

Yesterday's events: We went out for lunch, came home and sat on the front porch for a while enjoying the cool 75-degree temperatures, went into the house and took a nap and did very little the rest of the day.

Today: get Alex and take him to school in a safe manner and on time. I'm not sure if I will do anything else today, but I might get the chop saw out and cut some wood. We do have bible study this evening and that is always interesting.

I have a photo of a bloom and if the camera on the phone was good you would see the lite purple color. The larger white blooms have bloomed and are fading away.

Wow, that was a lot of info, we hope you have a good day and that we all stay safe in all we do.

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 19, 2025

We hope your Sunday is starting off well and we wish you a good morning along with a nice day.

Yesterday morning I took the trailer with the logs on it to the dump. There were not many vehicles ahead of me and I thought I would get done very fast. I was wrong. It seemed as if the people working there unloading the trailers were working very slowly.

After unloading the trailer, I then went to pick up Alex and bring him to our homestead for work. We did not get a cup of coffee due to the trailer being connected to the Ford's ole Chevy.

I told Alex that we need to trim several bushes around the house and if there is time, we will pull wire weeds. I showed Alex what needed to be done and helped him get started.  I went into the homestead and did some reading then later I went to the north end of the house and started trimming the bushes. Alex joined me there and when it was all done the trailer was loaded with small limbs from the bushes. Photo of the little branches that were trimmed.

After the work was completed, we went into Waco and saw the protest against the king. The protest did not keep us from lunch, and it was good. We went to the cheap store where we purchased some coffee and peppermints. After all that excitement we took Alex home.

When I arrived home it was nap time. I was able to get a nice nap before re-entering the workload. After the body rebuilding nap, I went outside and for happy time, but happy time was not ready. I then ventured to the front yard where I cut down some plants the grew against the tree in the Jasmin bed. That completed I then acquired the string trimmer from the shed and removed some of the Jasmin vines from the walkway.

I retrieved the leaf blower and cleaned off the sidewalk and the other walkway. I then, being a good neighbor, cleaned half of the neighbor's driveway that had a bunch of crushed acorns. Tools put away, I then distributed mothballs to flowerpots in an effort to keep the squirrels out of them.

I was allowed to transport via wagon several heavy empty flowerpots out to the back 40. I was then allowed to clean the area where the flowerpots had been with the leaf blower. I also allowed myself to go to the street and sweep up the leaves along the curb.

Finally, a happy time for me had come. I was able to drag my ole body to a chair on the driveway near where my favorite wife was sitting and I sat down with drink in hand.

Today's plans: lunch and do nothing.

Don the Ford

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 18, 2025

Here we are starting another Saturday and we are looking at a good morning.

I did very little yesterday here at the Ford homestead. I did finish reviewing my mom's bible, I know she had more than just this one bible. I find it interesting to see what she was underlining.

I brought the trailer out of the back 40 and it is connected to the truck sitting in the driveway at this time. I thought it would be better to do it yesterday rather than getting out early this morning to connect it. The dump sight opens at 8:00 so I will need to get going before long.

Our friend did come over yesterday afternoon and we sat outside enjoying the warm afternoon. There was a breeze most of the time, so we did not need the big ole fan. We did wave at our neighbor's as usual when they were driving by going to their homes.

I plan to get our yard man Alex over here this morning, that is after my visit to the dump site. I will call him when I am finished there and drive to his home and pick him up. He will not be mowing but I have some trimming of the bushes and pulling of the weeds for him. I have not yet decided if I want to cut some boards for the future bird house today or not.

You asked if I have a photo and, I do. It is of a pretty bloom, thanks for asking, or did you ask…

Ok, to that one person who is looking at the Fords Ole Chevy and wondering why The Don drives a pink truck, I will explain. It was early morning, and the sun was coming up and the clouds were reflecting the pink color onto my pickup truck.

Well, I need to stop for now and head to the dump site. We hope you have a good day and stay safe in all you do.

Don the Ford

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 17, 2025

We are facing another good morning here at the homestead, we hope all is well with you.

I guess I would say yesterday was a normal day with very few interesting events. Other than getting a cup of coffee and taking Alex to school, the rest of the day was kind of boring. I did go to the bank yesterday and got the info that I needed and then I learned that I had the information at home if I just knew what I was looking for. Nope, no more information about that.

I was able to get my bible study homework completed for the day and I did take my mom's ole bible and continue looking through it page by page. I have now gotten through the Old Testament and will start the new. I have not found any notes yet but there are passages that she would underline.

My favorite wife and I went out for supper and both the food and service were good. Back at home I remembered that I had not yet watered the potted plants or the two blackberry beds. I was able to get my ole body to drag the hose around and water these items, both front and back yards.

All that watering finished we did sit outside for a while. I should note, I found a dead squirrel in the front yard. I removed the steaking squirrel, and it was stinking with maggots on it. Then later as we sat outside, I noticed that we were not seeing the squirrels in our yard yesterday. I wonder if the dead one helped keep the live ones away.

Well, I will stop for now, we hope everyone has a good and safe day.

October 16, 2025

Good morning from us here in Hewitt, we hope everyone has a good day.

Not a lot happened yesterday, I did get some scrap wood together in prep for possibly making some bird houses. We do not need any more bird houses, but I enjoy giving them away.

Ole person note, yesterday morning I had gone to the Star coffee place for a cup and then headed to Alex's home to get him and take him to school. I called him before heading that way just to make sure he was up and ready to go. After getting the coffee I drove to his house, and I looked at the clock and saw that I had arrived a little early, so I sat there coffee in hand not thinking about much. After about 10 minutes I thought where is Alex, we need to get going. I called him and asked what are you doing? He responded with are you here? I said yes, I have been here for a while. Alex said you didn't call me and let me know you were here!

Normally when I arrive at their house, I call him and say I'm here and then he comes out, but yesterday this ole person was more interested in sitting there drinking the coffee and forgot to call Alex. We did get to school on time, and I felt like a big old dummy. Ole people do not remember to do everything.

I have a couple things to do today, I need to go to the bank and get some information, I need to water the plants in the pots and the number one and number three berry beds. We haven't had any rain in quite a while, things are very dry.

Well, I will stop for now, we hope everyone has a very good day and that we all stay safe in all we do.

Don the Ford

May today be better than your best day, but not as good as tomorrow.

October 15, 2025

The sun isn't up yet but we think it is still a very good morning, so we wish you all a good morning and a nice day.

Let's see if there's any review of yesterday's work, I guess I did a couple things yesterday. I did go out back and get on my hands and knees and pull wire weeds. I call them wire weeds because someone told me that's their name, I don't know if that's it or not. Our neighbor's backyard is literally covered with wire weeds (at least 70% covered). They very seldom even go out into the yard, and they do not take care of the yard as they have yard people do their mowing. I have a photo for your enjoyment, or irritation.

These small white blooms are what identifies them or helps me find them in the grass as you can see in the first photo. The second photo is of the trash can with a bunch of wire weeds in it.

Different topic: My favorite wife and I sat out on the front porch for a while yesterday afternoon and I took my momma's Bible with me. I had decided I wanted to go through it page by page and see any notes that she may have made or anything that she underlined. This Bible has 1353 pages not counting the dictionary part, there is a note that the Bible was given to her on her first wedding anniversary by my stepfather, January the 13th 1973. There's a note that says that she had read through the Bible in 1988, 1989, and 1995. There was also a note, "give the Bible to my daughter Wilda when I died". I have looked through a little over 500 pages. Some underlining but not much in the way of notes. I assume when I get to the New Testament there will be more notes and underlining. Many people read the New Testament more often than the Old.

Different topic: I have Brought some of the boards that were left over from the Manger project and hopefully sometime today I will mark them from some patterns I have, to make some more birdhouses to give away. I am not Sure how many birdhouses we will be able to make.

I need to stop working on this and start getting ready to go get Alex and take him to school. We hope everyone has a very good day and everyone stays safe and all they do.

October 14, 2025

It is a dark but good morning here in Hewitt. I guess we are now back on our normal schedule today, I do need to get Alex to school this morning.

I will attempt to inform you of our activities from yesterday: The day started off well my favorite wife and I went and picked up Alex and headed out to the restaurant for breakfast. The breakfast was good, the service was good, then we headed home ready to do yard work. Alex got the mower and went to the front yard to work while I grabbed the bucket and the poop picker upper and went to the backyard to remove Poopa-Loopa from the backyard. Alex finished mowing the front yard and went to the backyard and mowed it and after the trimming in the backyard we loaded up and took him back to his home.

For the rest of the day, I did very little other than my favorite wife and I sat outside on the front porch for a while doing nothing just sitting there relaxing and enjoying the quiet neighborhood. I did review my notes for Bible study. Speaking of Bible study our class size when everybody shows up it's 17 people and last night we had six people there. The smaller group seems to me to be better because we all get to participate more.

I have no idea of anything that I want to accomplish today, my back has been hurting so I may take it easy all day. I will stop for now, we hope you have a good day and stay safe in all you do.
